Chapter 10.2
Editor: Jodi
It was only after they returned that Ning Sheng asked the math nerd and learned the truth—
That sixth grader had been talking nonsense, saying he was like a pampered rich kid who couldn’t do anything on his own and relied on others, a delicate and useless flower vase.
Ning Sheng was speechless. But the little devil king himself called him a princess.
What was the difference between the two?
Perhaps it was the latter sentence that got him punched.
“It’s okay.” The math nerd continued, “He only got punched twice. After that insult, Xu Ling stopped.”
Ning Sheng felt doubly happy. “Xu Ling has grown up?”
The math nerd lowered his head to work on a formula, then looked up again: “No, it’s not that. He said Xu Ling was your dog, and Xu Ling was quite happy about it.”
Ning Sheng: “…”
Ning Sheng buried his head in his book with a sigh.
It wasn’t until the afternoon when school was over and Xu Ling was pushing him through various snack stalls that he remembered that Xu Ling had said that there was a field trip this weekend.
He kind of wanted to go on the field trip; he hadn’t done it before.
Plus, he wanted to eat Xu Ling’s mom’s sweet cakes.
Golden Sun Primary School was in the town center, so there were far more food stalls near the school gate than when they were in kindergarten.
“What do you want to eat?” Xu Ling asked him.
“Cotton candy, beef roll without beef, and…” Ning Sheng’s voice got quieter.
“Stinky tofu, right?” Xu Ling followed his gaze.
“I just want a tiny piece.” Ning Sheng gestured with his fingers.
“Wait here.” Xu Ling tossed his flat backpack onto his lap and turned to leave.
On the backpack, a slightly worn Ultraman pendant faced him.
It was quite worn, yet Xu Ling still had it.
Xu Ling was most familiar with these snack stalls, so he went back and forth, and in just a few minutes, he had bought everything Ning Sheng wanted.
When he returned, Ning Sheng was being pestered by the math nerd with math questions.
“Chickens and rabbits are in the same cage, making it a total of 33 heads…” Li Haoyue read the problem. “Don’t you have any thoughts on solving the problem?”
Ning Sheng was expressionless. “I want to stuff you in there too.”
Li Haoyue took out a piece of scrap paper. “That would make it 34 heads…”
Xu Ling took the opportunity to push Ning Sheng away.
Ning Sheng felt comfortable.
Who on earth, after being reborn, would enjoy doing math problems?
He spent his days goofing around with Xu Ling, keeping his grades at a mediocre level, wasn’t it just to enjoy life?
“Um…” The stinky tofu today was a bit spicy, and he wasn’t good with spicy food, so it made him cough continuously.
Xu Ling took the foam lunchbox from him and stuffed it into his mouth in two bites.
Ning Sheng who still wanted to eat: “….”
“This place isn’t good.” The little devil king told him. “We’ll try another one next time.”
The wheelchair stopped by the gate of the villa, and they had finished their snacks.
“Do I have sauce on my mouth?” Ning Sheng pulled out a tissue from his pocket and handed it to Xu Ling.
Xu Ling tore the tissue in half, put one half in his pocket, and used the other to wipe Ning Sheng’s mouth vigorously.
“Be gentle…” Ning Sheng pursed his lips.
His lips were about to turn red from Xu Ling’s rubbing.
“I’m going home. Little Bell, bye.” He waved his hand. “Is your mom busy lately?”
“I’ll ask her to make more sweet cakes!” Xu Ling jumped in place and then went down the hill.
The family doctor was waiting in Ning Sheng’s room.
“Have you been feeling unwell recently?” The doctor asked.
Ning Sheng shook his head.
He was feeling too comfortable, laziness running through his bones.
“Your grandmother said your appetite hasn’t been great at night recently, so she asked me to come and check on you.” The doctor told him.
Ning Sheng: “…”
That’s because the charm of street food stalls is simply irresistible.
After the doctor gave him a basic physical examination and confirmed that he was fine, he was relieved.
“You need to get up and walk around more often, okay?” The doctor said. “That way you’ll recover faster.”
Ning Sheng: “Oh.”
This time, he was really not in a hurry at all. Anyways he had Xu Ling to carry him daily, so it was convenient to go wherever he wanted.
“I understand.” He lifted his head slightly and said, “Thank you, doctor.”
One week passed quickly.
Finally, the weekend arrived, and the field trip Ning Sheng was looking forward to eagerly came
He had thought the field trip would involve going to a place outside of town, laying out picnic blankets, and having a picnic, but who would have thought that the school would do something different– they took a bus to visit a scenic spot in the city.
So, Ning Sheng found himself throwing up on the bus, feeling extremely queasy.
He had never been on such a bumpy ride.
He leaned his head against the window and closed his eyes, his lips pale. There was a noisy voice next to him yelling, “Ning Ning, you can’t die!!”
“We’ll arrive in about half an hour.” A teacher came to comfort him.
After half an hour, the bus finally reached the city.
Ning Sheng was carried off the bus by a teacher, and he stood by the bus door, waiting for the teacher to bring out his wheelchair.
Normally, he could stand for a few minutes, but today he was feeling very dizzy from motion sickness, making it difficult for him to stay upright. Swaying, he was about to fall to the ground.
When just then, the little devil king who had been sent to buy water, appeared out of nowhere and pounced on him.
Both of them, unable to stand steady, fell to the ground at the same time and Xu Ling’s head made a loud thud as it hit the cement ground.
“Little Bell?” Ning Sheng reacted.
He had cushioned the fall somewhat, so there was no major harm.
Xu Ling sat up, rubbing the back of his head which now had a bump on it.
His mind was buzzing, and a series of chaotic and huge images flashed before his eyes.
A bustling city, brightly lit conference rooms, alternating red and green numbers on electronic screens, and confrontations and calculations.
Immediately followed by some chaotic sounds–
“Ultraman Tiga is the strongest!”
“I have to take off my pants when I enter your room!”
And then:
“I’ll be your dog!”
“You’re actually able to tell. I’m exactly Ning Sheng’s dog.”
Ning Sheng looked at Xu Ling nervously.
This was the carefully nurtured, well-behaved, and selectively chosen version of the little devil king he had worked so hard to raise. He couldn’t let anything bad happen to him.
But it seemed like something was wrong.
Xu Ling had his head wrapped in his arms, and he was covering his face.
“What’s wrong?” Ning Sheng asked nervously.
Xu Ling seemed to take a deep breath and then sighed heavily. “Feeling a bit embarrassed.”
Ning Sheng: “?”
“It’s okay, Little Bell.” Ning Sheng reached out and rubbed Xu Ling’s head. “Your head is still very round. There’s nothing to be embarrassed about.”
The author has something to say:
Xu Ling (patting his head): Thank you cement ground for knocking me awake… I feel so embarrassed.
Xu Ling (roaring): WTF? What have I done? And what has my arch nemesis done!
