Chapter 12.2

Editor: Jodi

They had dinner in the zoo’s restaurant, a meal that cost 20 yuan and wasn’t particularly large.

“It’s not enough.” Lu Peng said as he tried to take some of Li Haoyue’s food.

“No way.” Li Haoyue refused, “I need to replenish my brain, so I have to eat more.”

Lu Peng looked enviously across the table at where Ning Sheng was using a spoon to transfer food from his plate to Xu Ling’s plate.

There were braised ribs, sweet and sour fish, winter melon, and carrots, and he only left himself a little serving of greens.

“Xu Ling doesn’t need to replenish his brain.” Lu Peng told him.

“You need to supplement what you don’t have.” Xu Ling nudged Ning Sheng with his elbow. “Right, Ning Ning?”

Ning Sheng didn’t respond, concentrating on his plain rice.

“Hehe, the princess is ignoring you.” Lu Peng gloated.

Ning Sheng wasn’t ignoring them. He was just a little afraid because they would have to take the bus back to Qing’an Town after eating.

The seesaw was fun, and the trampoline… was also fun, but the morning’s motion sickness had left him with some painful memories.

“Angry?” Xu Ling nudged him with his elbow again.

“Hmph, how can that be.” Ning Sheng said. “I just don’t talk to dogs.”

He absentmindedly fetched half of the food on his plate onto Xu Ling’s.

This was the time for growing, so he needed to eat more. He didn’t want to raise a scrawny dog.

The little devil king seemed to be overjoyed, not moving at all as he just stared fixedly at the small mountain of rice on his plate.

After they finished eating, the head teacher counted the students then loaded them onto the bus one by one.

As the bus started moving, the teacher paid extra attention to this delicate little boy and kindly reminded, “You can take a nap, and when you wake up, you’ll be home.”

“After we get back today, each of you should write a 200-word autumn outing diary and submit it by Monday.” The teacher announced. “Did you all hear that?”

The bus fell silent.

Ning Sheng: “Vomit.”

The teacher:  “…”

“Teacher, the princess is disgusted by the homework.” Lu Peng raised his hand.

Ning Sheng: “….”

It turns out, trying to avoid motion sickness by sleeping wasn’t effective.

As soon as Ning Sheng opened his eyes, he felt that the trees on the road and the mountains outside the window were running after the bus, making him even more nauseous the more he looked.

Luckily, he hadn’t eaten much today, so he only dry heaved, which was a lot better than the morning.

Even so, his cheeks became increasingly white as he leaned against the window.

Xu Ling was busy playing with Ning Sheng’s phone, and when he turned to look at the person who had been so angry in the afternoon, he found him huddled up in the seat, with his already small face almost disappearing into his collar.

His eyes were closed tightly, and his slightly raised eyelashes trembled gently, wet with tears.

Ning Sheng felt like he had fallen into a washing machine.

The world was spinning around him, and the journey home seemed as if it had no end.

Suddenly, the person next to him poked him.

“Leave me alone.” He said weakly. “I’m dying.”

Xu Ling poked him again.

“You’re dead!” Ning Sheng let out a cry then bit Xu Ling’s finger.

Xu Ling: “Ay ay ay ay ouch!”

“You didn’t wash your hands!” Ning Sheng let go and his complexion looked even worse.

“Then I’ll wash them so you can bite?” Xu Ling asked.

Ning Sheng: “Go away!”

Why was he like chewing gum?

Xu Ling wrapped two strings around his finger, picked them up from the middle, and turned them into a knot.

Ning Sheng: “Huh?”

“You’ve never even played this before?” Xu Ling handed him the strings and created another new pattern.

“I don’t play with this.” Ning Sheng told him.

His childhood had been short and quiet, and these things the rowdy kids liked to play with had little to do with him.

And when he grew up, he had even less interest in them.

Xu Ling tried another pattern.

Ning Sheng: “Huh??”

“I didn’t expect to see you play.” Xu Ling said. “It’s just that the bus ride is boring.”

“I can play too.” Lu Peng turned around. “I just don’t have any strings. Xu Ling, where did you get the strings?”

“From my trousers.” Xu Ling replied.

Ning Sheng: “?”

“Ah, my pants today don’t have strings.” Lu Peng said regretfully.

With all the commotion, Ning Sheng forgot about his motion sickness, and his stomach didn’t feel uncomfortable anymore.

The highway in the evenings weren’t as congested as during the day, so the bus soon arrived in town.

Ning Sheng’s family’s Maybach was waiting there to take him home.

Ning Sheng was carried into the car by the housekeeper. Through the car window, he called loudly to Xu Ling, who was crawling on the ground competing with Lu Peng in climbing a tree, “Little Bell! Let’s go home!”

Xu Ling smoothly made his way down the tree trunk.

“Going again? Is the princess’s home fun?” Lu Peng asked.

“It’s a lot of fun.” Xu Ling replied. “Like a fairyland.”

“When can I see this fairyland?” Lu Peng watched the Maybach drive away with longing eyes.

Inside the car, Ning Sheng took out two bottles of milk and handed one to Xu Ling.

Xu Ling opened his backpack, rummaged inside, and poured out the sweet pastries.

Ning Sheng finally got to eat Xu Ling’s family’s sweet pastries as he had wished.

“Can you give me your mom?” Ning Sheng asked him.

“Ning Ning, you want to be my little brother?” The little devil king asked.

Ning Sheng: “You wish.”

The car stopped at Ning Sheng’s house.

“Good Ning Ning.” His grandmother hugged him. “I heard you went out to play with your friends.”

“It was a school requirement.” Ning Sheng said.

“Are you tired from playing?” His grandmother asked.

Ning Sheng nodded, hugging his grandmother. “Very tired.”

“Grandma, has my music teacher come?” He asked seriously. “We haven’t done our lesson today.”

Xu Ling: “…”

“Let’s practice the violin.” Ning Sheng picked up his violin and handed the bow to Xu Ling. “I’m really tired today.”

He rubbed his nearly closed eyes. “Come on, practice this piece only fifty times tonight.”

Xu Ling: “?”

He also rolled on the floor.
