Chapter 17.1

In that moment, Ning Sheng saw the heavenly court Xu Ling had once claimed to have seen.

“Are you crazy?” He asked loudly.

Holding the wooden bucket, Xu Ling was also stunned.

“I’m perfectly lucid.” Xu Ling replied, “It’s just that the bucket is a bit heavy.”

“Brat, you’re lucid and you ended up pouring the whole bucket of water?” Ning Sheng broke down even more.

Xu Ling: “Whether I poured the water or not, I’d get scolded either way, right?”

Ning Sheng: “…..”

“So, this is somehow my fault?” Ning Sheng asked, “If you get scolded for wetting the bed, will you just pee on it till it collapses?”

Xu Ling, “Are these the same thing?”

Xu Ling: “…..”

Xu Ling: “When have I ever wet the bed!”

Ning Sheng: “I’ll go and ask Auntie.”

Xu Ling: “It’s my fault! Stop saying it!”

“This is your family’s bucket, not mine. Don’t you know how heavy it is?” Ning Sheng had never had such an absurd ‘shower’ before. He was drenched from head to toe and couldn’t even open his eyes.

“What are you just standing there for?” He asked, “Give me a towel.”

The dry towel was reluctantly handed over, allowing him to finally open his eyes.

Hmm…. such a stiff towel.

“What was this towel used for before?” He asked suspiciously.

“It’s mine, to wash my face.” Xu Ling replied.

Ning Sheng was relieved.

Xu Ling added, “Sometimes I use it to wipe my hands too.”

Ning Sheng: “…. You didn’t need to tell me that.”

He wiped his face dry with the towel slowly, then leaned over the edge of the wooden tub, soaking in the warm hot water.

It felt… surprisingly comfortable, not as bad as he had thought.

Xu Ling’s bathroom was narrow but fragrant, with a bunch of small wildflowers of faint colors and pleasing shapes placed beside the mirror.

Ning Sheng rested his head on the edge of the tub, feeling sleepy.

Meanwhile, Xu Ling had already speedily finished his shower and started putting on pants.

“Aren’t you done yet?” Xu Ling asked.

Ning Sheng: “I haven’t even started.”

He really enjoyed bathing; he could soak for a long, long time.

Although the tub was a bit cramped, he could make do.

Xu Ling glanced back, then removed his half-worn pants and stepped on a stool to fetch another towel from the cabinet.

Ning Sheng: “?”

Then a hand pressed him against the edge of the tub and despite his resistance, Xu Ling quickly rubbed him down with the towel.

“Are you sick?” Ning Sheng gasped softly, seething with anger.

“It’s hard to say.” Xu Ling told him, “but if the water gets cold, you’ll soon be sick for real.”

Ning Sheng: “…..”

The little devil king, holding his clothes, was about to put them over his head.

“Rinse again!” Ning Sheng told him, “It’s not clean enough.”

“You’re so clean you could be steamed straight in a pot.” Xu Ling continued as he put on the clothes, “pale and tender, one bite each.”

Ning Sheng: “You pervert.”

“This is the back, ah ah ah!” Ning Sheng swatted away Xu Ling’s hand that was trying to dress him, “Do you usually just wrap a leaf around yourself and go out? You don’t even know how to wear clothes.”

The little devil king just couldn’t do it right.

It still had to be him, who was capable of taking care of a child who had to do it.

“I’ll do it myself.” He said, “I don’t need your help.”

Half an hour later, Ning Sheng sat slowly on Xu Ling’s bed, blow-drying his hair.

And Xu Ling was sitting cross-legged on the floor, engrossed in his children’s cell phone.

“You should stop playing.” Ning Sheng advised, “Playing games is bad for your eyes.”

After gaming on the console and now on the phone, Xu Ling seemed rather unskilled but had a clear fondness for games, enjoying all kinds.

Ning Sheng remembered that before his rebirth, Xu Ling had invested in several game projects, all of them hugely popular and that he had even supported two popular gaming teams financially.

“Little Bell, it’s time to sleep.” He put the hairdryer down.

With a thud, Xu Ling rolled onto the bed, leaving a small nightlight on at the bedside.

Ning Sheng had visited Xu Ling’s place many times, but this was his first overnight stay.

The bed was hard, the blanket not soft enough, adorned with several patches. The windows weren’t soundproof, occasionally letting in faint noises like a cat jumping onto tree branches.

Yet, Ning Sheng quickly felt sleepy.

Then he moved closer to Xu Ling, wrapped his arms around Xu Ling’s arm, and fell asleep.

In the middle of the night, Xu Ling, perhaps annoyed by the hug, tried to push him away.

But in a daze, Ning Sheng held his arm even tighter.

“Don’t go, don’t leave me.” He murmured in his dream.

And probably startled by his words, Xu Ling stopped moving and Ning Sheng slept peacefully through the night.

Time slipped away quietly, marked by the soft footsteps of a little cat, and in the blink of an eye, half a semester passed, and the second grade students were greeted with a short holiday.

Lu Peng had been clamoring to go shrimp fishing for half a month, but on the first day of the vacation—

“He went to S City with his cousin to attend a math lecture.” Lu Peng’s mother said over the phone.

“My Ning Ning is in S City’s big hospital for a health check-up.” Ning Sheng’s grandmother mentioned on the phone.

“Little Bell? He’s been taken by his biological dad to S City for a holiday.” Xu Ling’s mother explained at the car wash.

Lu Peng: “…..”
