Chapter 64.2

Editor: Princess

Ning Sheng’s head hurt.

His dog and his lackey seemed to be having some internal conflict lately.

“I printed out the university entrepreneurship competition process.” The maths nerd said. “I brought it up for you. We choose a topic, then submit it for evaluation.”

This sort of thing was easy for Ning Sheng, but he wanted to play with the country dogs and broaden their horizons.

“I’ll look at it when I’m bored.” Ning Sheng said. “Please close the door behind you.”

Xu Ling left reluctantly, looking back every few steps.

Outside the bedroom, Xu Ling immediately dropped his smile and made a zipping gesture to the maths nerd, who as usual gave him the middle finger.

Xu Ling returned to his room, opened his laptop, replied to several messages, and soon received several deposit notifications on his phone.

During senior year, he’d suggested his stepfather invest in a car modification shop, leveraging all the client and industry connections his stepfather had built up over years of car repair and washing. The new shop specialized in race car modifications and installations, and thanks to superior technique, quickly accumulated new connections in the racing circuit.

Xu Ling had also gotten his stepfather to open two live-streaming accounts. One teaching car modification and selling courses, another live-streaming the modification process. In just one year, they’d accumulated millions of followers and were earning well from tips and advertising.

But it still wasn’t enough.

Xu Ling’s gaze swept over the numbers in his notebook.

To marry his little princess, this was still far from enough.

Fortunately, there were other plans, one at a time.

Xu Ling closed his laptop and picked up his fully charged phone.

Group chat Four Golden Suns

[Ling] : [Forward Story·Small Villa Rules and Strange Tales, Keep an Extra Eye Open When Sleeping]

[Ling] : [Forward Story·Suddenly Opening Eyes While Sleeping at Night, The Result…]

[AAA Premium Piglet Wholesale] : Wow, ghost stories.

[Math is so great, I love math] : You’re scarier than ghosts.

Ning Sheng was about to sleep when he glanced at the group chat.

What was this? Ghost stories?

He didn’t want to look at the others, but that “Small Villa Rules and Strange Tales” was kind of tempting.

Twenty minutes later, he came out of his bedroom, wanting to take the elevator but not daring to, so he chose the stairs.

He went to look for Lu Peng.

Lu Peng had audiobook ghost stories playing all around him.

So he went to find the maths nerd.

But the maths nerd found him a set of competition problems, saying they could ward off evil.

Upstairs, Xu Ling’s bedroom door remained slightly ajar as Xu Ling turned off the lights and lay down.

Ning Sheng quietly pushed open the door, hugged his blanket, and got into Xu Ling’s bed. The sense of security hit him immediately, but the more he thought about it, the angrier he got.

Ning Sheng sat up and slapped Xu Ling awake: “I’ll teach you to pretend to sleep.”

Xu Ling couldn’t help but laugh, and Ning Sheng started punching and kicking.

Xu Ling grinned carelessly and in a few moves had circled the person into his arms, hugging him tightly from behind.

Ning Sheng: “…”

Fine, clingy was clingy. It was just snuggling and hugging, nothing too excessive. He’d endure it.

Besides, after sleeping together for so long, lying alone really was quite uncomfortable.

I’m doing this for myself, Ning Sheng thought.

“Sleep!” Ning Sheng commanded.

“Yes, yes.” Xu Ling said, pulling him down to lie together.

**

The busyness of the school opening gradually passed, and Ning Sheng’s university life gradually found its rhythm.

By the weekend, Lu Peng was going to the stadium to participate in the university games, giving them three front-row tickets supposedly worth 1000 yuan.

“Do the athletes hold hands and run together to cost this much?” The maths nerd asked.

Lu Peng grabbed Ning Sheng’s hand across the railing: “I can hold princess’s hand and run laps, I won’t charge anything.”

“Hmph.” Ning Sheng pulled his hand back. “If you don’t come in first, don’t come back to see me.”

“He should be fine.” Xu Ling told him. “After all, when we raced in Qing’an Town, our opponents weren’t human.”

They were pigs and wild boars.

“I miss Pei Qi.” Ning Sheng said sadly.

“You miss jack shit about Pei Qi.” Xu Ling said. “You wouldn’t even hose her down when she got dirty.”

There was still a while before the competition started. The maths nerd pulled out an English academic paper to read, while Ning Sheng was being forced by Xu Ling to watch a sweet childhood-friends romance drama. They’d been watching it for two days already.

The drama had progressed to mutual secret crushes, with the male lead giving the female lead a puppy, and the two holding hands to walk the dog and take it to the vet.

“Any thoughts?” Xu Ling asked, grabbing him.

“It turns out you have to get dogs spayed.” Ning Sheng said, watching the scene.

“Yes.” The doctor in the drama continued. “Otherwise when dogs go into heat, it’s quite uncomfortable for them.”

Xu Ling: “???”

“This show is no good.” He exited the video. “Don’t watch it.”

Ning Sheng: “???”

You made me watch half of it? And watch childhood friends falling in love, what’s the point of…

Ning Sheng: “?”

The starting gun had just fired on the track when Ning Sheng’s phone rang.

“Hello? Mom?” He answered.

Xu Ling perked up his ears.

“Mom has a friend whose son is called Bai Liang, also from your X University. Has he been coming to find you lately?” Ning Sheng’s mother asked.

Xu Ling: “Heh.”

High school’s Bai Ming, university’s Bai Liang.

These annoying things all had names from the same series.

“Ah, yes.” Ning Sheng remembered the searching senior.

“His mother saw your little flower fairy photo at my place before and really liked it.” Ning Sheng’s mother laughed. “She’s always wanted to arrange a marriage between our families, but…”

Xu Ling heard two words: “arrange marriage.”

Xu Ling: “?”

Xu Ling’s mouth opened and his soul seemed to float out.

The maths nerd looked at Xu Ling, looked at the air, reached out to tug at empty space, and patted it back onto Xu Ling’s head.

“Okay, I understand.” Ning Sheng hung up.

Suddenly, the country dog beside him had gained some class.

Xu Ling sat up straight and proper, dignified and cool, with clear eyes and refined bearing.

“What’s wrong with you?” Ning Sheng poked Xu Ling.

“Nothing.” Xu Ling said coldly. “Lu Peng is running well.”

“Hehe.” Lu Peng, who was sitting on the ground beneath the railing, sprang to his feet. “I haven’t even taken to the field yet.”

Xu Ling: “…”
