Chapter 14.2

Ning Sheng spread out his homework book to make up his 200-word zoo trip journal.

A pen reached over, poking his face a couple of times.

Ning Sheng: “?”

“I’ll do your face?” He raised his right hand but Xu Ling laughed fearlessly: “Why are you being nicer and nicer to me?”

“Because… I want to use you ruthlessly.” Ning Sheng lowered his head.

“Dummies can also be used?” Xu Ling asked.

Ning Sheng thought for a moment and said, “In the future, whoever I tell you to bite, you have to go bite them.” And later, before investing in anything, tell me, so I can just follow the trend. If you eat, I can sip the soup, Ning Sheng thought to himself.

Just then, the class teacher came in and the two of them reacted quickly, sweeping all the food on the desk into the drawer with a flurry.

Surprisingly, Ning Sheng actually found a bit of tacit understanding with Xu Ling.

He looked at Xu Ling curiously, then his fingertip touched Xu Ling’s hand under the drawer and he felt a bit of joy that was hard to express in words.

This class was a math lesson, Li Haoyue’s stronghold.

The math nerd sat in the first row, always raising his hand high eagerly whenever the teacher asked a question.

The teacher smiled and looked down at the class from the podium, “Then let’s ask… Xu Ling to answer.”

Li Haoyue slumped back onto the desk dejectedly, like a frost-stricken eggplant.

Ning Sheng, who wasn’t paying attention to the lesson and was watching the clouds, sprang into action.

He glanced at the problem on the blackboard and grabbed Xu Ling’s pants, “It equals 96, say it quick, equals 96.”

Xu Ling opened his mouth, “It equals 99.”

Xu Ling gave him a sly smile.

Ning Sheng: “?”

“Correct, Xu Ling, sit down.” The teacher stifled a laugh, “Ning Sheng, pay attention to the lesson. The problem on the blackboard has already been explained, and now we are discussing the exercises in the book.”

Ning Sheng: “……”

So embarrassing.

He had animatedly and frantically suggested a wrong answer.

In contrast, the person who had been called on didn’t seem rushed at all and even asked the teacher for another question with a smile.

“Can I really raise Xu Ling well?” Ning Sheng fell into self-doubt again.

Perhaps Xu Ling didn’t dislike him and needed him to some extent.

But was his own level reliable?

Xu Ling was already smart, and as he grew older, he might not want to follow him anymore.

Then he would be alone again.

As he was thinking, a math book was passed over to him.

The book was worn, and all the exercises in it were filled with answers.

Ning Sheng: “Did you write these yourself?”

“The book was borrowed by my mom from our neighbors. They said it’s all the same, no need to buy a new one.” Xu Ling said, “It’s more auspicious coming from a top student.”

“I see.” Ning Sheng was happy, “So you were looking at the answers in the book just now!”

So Xu Ling still needed him.

His mood cleared up, a hint of a smile appeared on his lips and he was even kind enough to listen to some of the math lesson.

After two classes, it was time for eye exercises.

Ning Sheng never participated in this activity, but today he lifted his head.

“Give me your hand.” He said.

Xu Ling, who was busily plotting a weekend trip to the orchard with Lu Peng loudly turned around, “?”

Ning Sheng pulled out several wet wipes from his backpack and, holding Xu Ling’s hand, wiped it clean meticulously.

“Here’s the eraser I borrowed from you.” Lu Peng handed something over.

Xu Ling took it.

Ning Sheng grabbed his hand again and wiped it carefully once more.

“Here’s the ruler I borrowed from you, I’m returning it.” Lu Peng turned back again.

“Just put it on the desk!” Ning Sheng said, “Don’t you bring anything to school? Don’t borrow anything from him again.”

Then he turned to Xu Ling who was watching the commotion: “Hurry up and do the eye exercises!”

Xu Ling: “……”

The class teacher came in to check, and the usually bustling corner of the class was quiet today.

Xu Ling and Lu Peng were both doing the eye exercises, while Ning Sheng, with his right hand supporting his cheek, watched them closely, very strictly.

“Do things look a little clearer now?” Ning Sheng asked when the exercises ended.

Xu Ling: “Yes.”

Ning Sheng: “That’s great.”

Ning Sheng asked this same question at least twenty times until Xu Ling became numb.

Xu Ling finally said, “Yes, I can see, it’s so clear, I can even see heaven.”

Ning Sheng glared at him fiercely and didn’t speak to him for the rest of the school day.
