Chapter 66.2

Less than a month into the semester, Ning Sheng had already watched three different departments’ welcoming parties—he loved going wherever there were crowds.

So the next afternoon, sullen Ning Sheng was dragged by Xu Ling to watch the Math Department’s welcoming party.

Ning Sheng was genuinely sulking, ignoring Xu Ling for most of the day, being aloof.

Xu Ling acted like he didn’t notice, hovering around him, sometimes offering melon milk, sometimes asking for cookies.

Hearing about the welcoming party, Ning Sheng still went out.

However, he dressed more casually than usual, just wearing a light yellow T-shirt his grandmother bought, paired with black pants, both without conspicuous brand logos, looking quite low-key.

He thought he was being low-key, but quite a few people stared at him along the way.

Xu Ling had originally wanted to find something in the same color, but there was nothing in his closet, so he ended up with orange.

Little Ning was listless today, with a somewhat melancholy aura, but still good-looking.

After three failed attempts, Xu Ling finally managed to put his arm around Ning Sheng’s shoulders, and they entered the Math Department’s welcoming party together.

“Here’s a glow stick for you.” The girl at the entrance said, handing it to Ning Sheng.

Ning Sheng: “Thank you.”

He and Xu Ling sat in the front row together.

The math nerd ran over and gave them each a VIP gift bag.

“What’s this?” Ning Sheng asked.

Li Haoyue: “Math problems.”

“This happiness can be shared with other students.” Ning Sheng said.

“What are you wearing?” Ning Sheng asked with distaste.

“I’m performing later.” Li Haoyue said. “I’m playing the number 6.”

Someone backstage called out, and the fire-red-clothed Number Six hurried over.

“Ning Ning?” Xu Ling called him.

Ning Sheng didn’t speak.

“I was wrong.” Xu Ling said. “I just wanted to tease you a little.”

Xu Ling: “I didn’t think you couldn’t teach me. You can teach me whatever you want, okay?”

Ning Sheng felt that Xu Ling’s shamelessness had truly become thicker than the Earth’s crust—saying whatever he wanted, then playing dead, forgetting everything on the spot, then coming back with a sunny, brilliant smile to tell him lies again.

Ning Sheng: “Go away, I want to watch the performance.”

Xu Ling: “…”

The performance was three hours long, but because they had their project presentation tonight, Ning Sheng could only watch for one hour, just enough to catch the math nerd’s performance.

This performance was really ugly—a bunch of people dressed as numbers running around on stage, with a kind of high-end disregard for human life.

Group chat Four Golden Suns

[AAA Premium Piglet Wholesale]: Finally finished training, should I go straight to the classroom?

[Ning]: Go straight there.

[AAA Premium Piglet Wholesale]: Was the Math Department performance good?

[Ning]: One look and you’ll die from cringe.

Because they all had other arrangements, by the time Ning Sheng and the others rushed to the classroom, they were almost right on time for the presentation.

The classroom was full of students, with only four seats left in the front row.

Ning Sheng: “?”

“Which team are you?” The teacher at the door asked. “Come sign in.”

“‘Qing’an Town Never Sets Team,’” Xu Ling said.

Perhaps because the competition seemed quite formal and the project presentation was important, half the people wore formal attire, and the rest dressed formally and properly in black and white.

In the front row of the classroom, the four “red, orange, yellow, green” people were very conspicuous. When the teacher hosting the presentation came forward to open, he was clearly stunned by this colorful patch.

Ning Sheng: “…”

Since mixing with these people, embarrassment never stopped.

“This is my new team uniform.” Lu Peng said, pinching his green vest. “Does it look good?”

Xu Ling: “…Did you have to wear it today?”

Because Xu Ling also felt embarrassed, Ning Sheng looked at him more and felt slightly less angry.

“Come draw a lot.” The teacher handed them the drawing tube. “Let’s decide your presentation order.”

“Let Lu Peng do it.” Ning Sheng said. “He just got first place—it’s lucky.”

Lucky Lu Peng reached into the tube and drew the last number.

Ning Sheng: “…”

How to put it.

By the end, the judging teachers would be somewhat tired.

But it wasn’t a big problem. Their colorful group would relieve visual fatigue, and besides, his project proposal was solid.

This kind of entrepreneurship competition was simple for Ning Sheng. He’d spent half an evening recently writing a project proposal, added Xu Ling and the others’ names, and prepared to carry them to victory.

But Xu Ling had mysteriously said they’d come up with something interesting the past few days.

Ning Sheng was worried this “interesting thing” might be primitive humans drilling wood for fire.

But since the little devil king wanted to do it, he didn’t oppose trying.

Four Golden Suns

[AAA Premium Piglet Wholesale]: Why have they all lost their color?

[Ning]: Stop playing with your phone. Our colors make phone use very obvious—everyone’s watching us.

“‘Qing’an Town Never Sets Team,’” after a long while, the teacher reminded them. “You’re next.”

Ning Sheng opened his laptop.

Xu Ling: “I’m going up.”

“Can you do it?” Ning Sheng wanted to ask.

But the little devil king was unquestionable. Before he could ask, the stray dog transformed into a pedigree dog, arrogantly taking the stage.

The screen projected their group’s project—

“Childhood Rehabilitation Training Companion… Artificial Intelligence Motion Recognition… Personality matching completion, virtual reality training system construction.”

“Project Owner: Ning Sheng, Project Assistants: Xu Ling, Li Haoyue, Lu Peng.”

“This project is dedicated to little Ning Sheng from the past.”

On Ning Sheng’s laptop was the project he’d originally planned to submit—using e-commerce livestreaming to build Qing’an Town’s overall brand and boost sales of the entire town’s agricultural products. He’d done a complete analysis.

In case those three had strange ideas, he could still provide backup.

“Hehe, Princess.” Lu Peng said. “Dog Xu said we’d work quietly, then carry you to victory. He said you’d like this.”

Ning Sheng immediately saw “Childhood Rehabilitation Training Companion” on the screen, and inevitably, his heart warmed.

Recently, Xu Ling had mentioned this to him once. He’d thought it was just a whim and brushed it off casually.

“Just like that, at most… at most I’d give it an extra look.”

During those long periods of time, it was Xu Ling who accompanied him, pushed his wheelchair, forced him to walk step by shaky step, then brought him running, jumping, and climbing trees, gradually helping him recover into a healthy young man.

The current him loved laughing and making noise, loved joining crowds, loved everything related to freedom.

Xu Ling’s presentation style was different from the big devil king’s.

He even made some jokes, livened up the atmosphere, and surprisingly, he made even the complex design concepts not boring at all.

Auntie Xu’s decisiveness, his stepfather’s affability, Ning Sheng’s attention to detail—he seemed to have learned from all of them.

My dog has really grown up.

Ning Sheng felt gratified.

The current Xu Ling seemed even more excellent than the previous big devil king.

“Who is your project’s supervising teacher?” The judging teacher asked.

“We haven’t had time to find a supervising teacher yet.” Xu Ling said.

Surprise flashed in the judging teacher’s eyes.

“The project is very good and can be approved. It’s an excellent topic choice, though the difficulty is there too. Keep working hard and try to make it happen.” The judging teacher said.

Today’s students were really amazing—this project proposal was too mature and polished.

Just as the judging teacher finished speaking, those three students who had been serious-faced moments before grabbed Ning Sheng and rushed out of the classroom.

“Carrying princess to victory!” Lu Peng shouted.

The judging teacher: “…”

“Put me down!” Ning Sheng pummeled Xu Ling.

“Still angry?” Xu Ling asked.

“I still want to make you cry.” Ning Sheng said.

“Then let’s go home and rest.” Xu Ling said.

This meant he wasn’t angry anymore—when Ning Sheng was truly angry, he wouldn’t acknowledge anyone.

The project presentation took most of the evening. When it ended, many lights in the academic building had already dimmed.

The group rode in Ning Sheng’s family car back to the small villa.

“This young master could write an entire project book by himself.” Ning Sheng said, pulling out his own and climbing onto the bed to sit cross-legged.

“Actually, mine is also very interesting and would let you guys just coast. I’ll read it to you—this young master wants to spend money to make it happen.” Ning Sheng said, pulling Xu Ling to look. “Orchards, pig farms, we’ll form a team, film pastoral daily life, attract traffic, then…”

Xu Ling rested his head on his shoulder, his hair a bit prickly, his hands restlessly playing with his wrists.

Considering the decent project idea, Ning Sheng briefly didn’t struggle and let Xu Ling fidget for a while.

“Are you even listening?” Ning Sheng leaned back slightly, turning to glance at Xu Ling with a hint of displeasure in his expression.

“If you’re not serious, I’ll give you a severe beating.” Ning Sheng said. Sitting cross-legged was uncomfortable, so he adjusted his position.

He seemed to accidentally bump into something.

He noticed it. Xu Ling didn’t.

But—

Ning Sheng: “…”

Ning Sheng: “?”

“It’s… eleven o’clock. I need to go shower.” Ning Sheng said.

“Go ahead.” Xu Ling didn’t stop him.

Ning Sheng pushed the door open and left, then heard Xu Ling enter the bathroom.

Ning Sheng: “?”

So what was that thing pressing against him just now?

Ning Sheng: “…”

Xu Ling had… reacted to something.

Ning Sheng pointed at the melon milk, then at the project proposal in his hands.

Finally, he pointed at himself.

Ning Sheng: “???“
