Chapter 65.1

The coach blew his whistle, and Lu Peng jumped up to prepare for the race.

Xu Ling scrolled through his phone and found some melodramatic series for Ning Sheng to watch.

This episode’s plot involved a failed arranged marriage, meeting the wrong person, tearing each other apart over family assets, and ending in bloodshed.

The first episode showed the female lead discovering her husband’s affair and getting into a physical fight.

“What do you think?” Xu Ling asked.

“She’s not as good at slapping as I am.” Ning Sheng said.

Xu Ling: “…”

Xu Ling tugged at his hair and took a deep breath.

“What else?” He asked.

Ning Sheng: “?”

“That’s my aunt acting.” Ning Sheng said.

Xu Ling: “…”

Ning Sheng: “Do you want an autograph?”

After finishing his research papers, the math nerd started reading an extremely thick math book. When he finished a section and needed to turn the page, he flipped to… air.

Xu Ling had knocked himself in the head with the extremely thick math book.

Ning Sheng: “?”

Just then, the starting gun fired and the whole stadium erupted in cheers.

Lu Peng shot forward.

Having grown up under the Qing’an Town sun, the young man’s tall stature and healthy, slightly tanned complexion made him quite conspicuous even among the other athletes.

Students from their school began cheering.

“Go Lu Peng!” Xu Ling stood up and shouted.

The math nerd also stood up: “Go Lu Peng!”

Ning Sheng didn’t make a sound, but from the corner of his eye, Xu Ling noticed the little flag in Ning Sheng’s hands was waving so fast it was practically becoming a propeller—ready for takeoff.

As they approached the finish line, a runner from the neighboring school showed signs of overtaking Lu Peng, making everyone nervous.

Xu Ling: “Go Lu Peng! Lu Peng… ahhh, damn it, stop pinching my thigh.”

Xu Ling covered his legs with both hands, jumping high.

From the corner of his eye, Lu Peng caught sight of the spectator stands and suddenly burst forward with power, leaving everyone behind as he charged straight through the finish line.

The support team rushed up with water and towels, but Lu Peng didn’t stop.

The coach: “?”

Lu Peng charged forward several dozen meters more, then vaulted over the railing into the spectator stands.

The coach: “…”

The 400 meters limited your performance, huh? You poor thing.

Lu Peng gave Ning Sheng a bear hug, howling wildly.

Ning Sheng: “…”

“Ah, let go of me!” Ning Sheng was nearly flattened.

The math nerd pulled a triangle ruler from his backpack and swatted Lu Peng away: “You’re all sweaty, don’t touch him.”

Lu Peng turned to pounce on Xu Ling, but Xu Ling easily pushed him away.

“I have prize money now.” Lu Peng said. “I have money now, I can treat princess to melon milk too.”

Xu Ling wrapped his arms around Ning Sheng, took tissues from the math nerd, and helped wipe Ning Sheng’s hands and cheeks.

“Is this young master being too good to you guys?” Ning Sheng said through gritted teeth. “I’m going to make you all cry.”

“You little brat, come get your award.” The coach chased after him all the way to the bottom of the stands, scolding. “Don’t you want your prize?”

“Coming.” Lu Peng vaulted back down.

“I’ll take him to wash his face.” Xu Ling said.

Li Haoyue: “Heh.”

Xu Ling pressed down on the math nerd’s shoulders, shook him frantically, then estimating that his brains were about evenly mixed, let go.

The math nerd opened his mouth and recited a string of pi digits.

“You can’t hit the math nerd.” Ning Sheng said as he walked away, looking back.

“I didn’t hit him.” Xu Ling said. “I’m just refreshing his brain.”

In the restroom, Xu Ling dampened his handkerchief and, just like he used to do when they were little, helped wipe Ning Sheng’s hands and cheeks.

By the third round of wiping, Ning Sheng had had enough.

“Xu Dashan! Did I fall into a trash can?” Ning Sheng asked.

Xu Ling: “…”

Xu Ling chased after Ning Sheng out of the restroom, forcibly pulling him close.

“How could I possibly find you disgusting? Ning Ning is fragrant.” Xu Ling said with a playful grin but refused to let go.

“Come on.” Xu Ling said. “Let’s go to the rest room to find Lu Peng.”

Reporters arrived with their equipment to interview the 400-meter champion.

“Lu Peng from X University’s Sports Academy.” The reporter introduced to the live stream. “He’s calm and resilient, with a steady mindset, winning the 400-meter track championship in one fell swoop.”

The reporter pushed open the athletes’ rest room door—

Ning Sheng wore Lu Peng’s medal around his neck, while Xu Ling, apparently wanting to see the inscription on the medal, was forcefully tugging at the medal ribbon.

“Get lost.” Ning Sheng said, leaning forward from being pulled and kicking Lu Peng.

The math nerd coldly glanced at the reporter at the door and recited another string of numbers—still pi, it seemed.

The reporter: “…”

The College Sports Meet Live Stream Comments—

[Holy shit? Hahahaha it’s them, the Qing’an Town attention-seekers.]

[Ning Ning! My beautiful Ning Ning, we meet again!]

[Do these academic gods ever behave themselves? They look so energetic and lively.]

[That’s probably why Ning Ning recovered so well—he seems more lively than when he was little.]

“Interview?” The only seated person, Ning Sheng, spared a glance for the doorway.

The reporter was inexplicably intimidated: “Y-yes.”

“Have a seat.” Ning Sheng graciously pointed to a chair.

Xu Ling dragged over a chair and placed it behind the reporter.

The reporter sat down nervously, facing Lu Peng who was laughing heartily.

Ning Sheng placed his left hand on his right palm and clapped twice lightly.

Lu Peng stopped laughing and straightened his chest and shoulders, instantly becoming proper.

The reporter: “…”

“You may begin.” Lu Peng said.

“Were you nervous during the race?” The reporter asked.

“Not nervous. The coach taught us well normally, thanks to the coach’s training.” Lu Peng said.

“Are you happy to win the medal?” The reporter asked.

“Very happy.” Lu Peng said. “I brought honor to both our school and our little town.”

The reporter breathed a sigh of relief—when actually interviewed, they were quite proper, giving coherent answers.

“Do you have any favorite sports stars? Would you like to compete with them?” The reporter asked. “Do you want to participate in the Olympics?”

Lu Peng: “…”

The reporter smiled encouragingly.

Lu Peng pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket, read it once, then turned to look at Ning Sheng: “Princess, you didn’t write this question.”

Ning Sheng: “…”

Xu Ling: “…”
