Chapter 29.1

Editor: Jodi

Four country dogs roamed freely in the most luxurious mall in the city.

“Impressive.” Lu Peng said loudly, “The city is really something.”

“Luxurious.” Li Haoyue echoed, “You can smell the money.”

Ning Sheng: “……”

Then he looked at Xu Ling, only for the little devil king to grab his wrist and swagger forward, as if inspecting his own territory. He looked quite proper.

Ning Sheng, feeling a bit relieved, took a step forward behind him, only to see a big hole in his clothes from a straw stack.

He couldn’t hold it in anymore, “You guys have completely embarrassed me!”

The plan to reform the country dogs faced a severe setback.

Not only did it fail, it also dragged him down with them.

**

In a children’s clothing store, Ning Sheng slapped his children’s bank card and a wad of cash on the counter, “Turn them into humans, please.”

The shop assistant took Lu Peng and Li Haoyue to pick out clothes, while Ning Sheng personally selected Xu Ling’s.

Kids from Qing’an Town didn’t have much concept of fashion.

Clothes from the night market on the roadside could be bought for under a hundred yuan, enough for a whole new outfit.

To Ning Sheng, the texture of these fabrics was no better than wearing leaves.

“This shirt, and these pants.” Ning Sheng said while picking from the racks, “Try them on.”

Xu Ling had just come out from trying on one outfit when he was bombarded with more clothes.

“This one looks good.” Ning Sheng said, scrutinizing him. Then turning to the shop assistant, he added, “We’ll take this set, but there’s no need to wrap it. He’ll wear it out.”

Xu Ling went back in and then came out again.

Lu Peng and Li Haoyue had finished choosing long ago and were sitting on the bench in their new clothes, waiting for an hour.

Lu Peng: “Still trying? Dog Xu looks like he’s about to die.”

“It’s the 23rd set.” Li Haoyue counted, “Dog Xu has always had good stamina.”

“I feel like Dog Xu’s skin is about to peel off.” Lu Peng added.

Li Haoyue: “Dog Xu doesn’t even have this many skins in his games.”

“You two.” Ning Sheng turned around, “Put your legs down!”

Immediately, a simultaneous thud of legs hitting the ground was heard.

“We’re only buying these today.” Ning Sheng finally felt satisfied, “Check out.”

Xu Ling collapsed on the bench, exhausted.

“Sit up straight!” Ning Sheng kicked him.

The three sat upright, looking proper, and Ning Sheng was satisfied. Then he glanced at the mirror, only to freeze.

He hadn’t bought himself any clothes!

He disliked wearing newly bought clothes directly but wasn’t about to trouble the driver to go back just for that.

So he said: “Just get me something…”

“Get him this.” Xu Ling pointed at the clothes he was wearing.

Ning Sheng: “Why should I wear the same ugly clothes as you?”

Xu Ling: “All the reason why you must get one.”

Ning Sheng: “……”

Minutes later, Xu Ling had his arm around Ning Sheng’s shoulder, and the two walked out of the store in matching outfits.

Lu Peng: “I feel renewed.”

Li Haoyue: “I feel reborn.”

Ning Sheng: “Right, there’s still your hair.”

Xu Ling: “……”

**

Xu Ling was pushed into the mall’s hair salon by Ning Sheng.

“What kind of style do you want?” The manager asked.

“Wash them clean and give them a haircut that makes them look like they earn millions monthly.” Ning Sheng instructed.

Xu Ling: “……”

Half an hour later, Ning Sheng was playing a mobile game when shadows fell over him. It was three fashionable junior high schoolers with hair gel glaring down at him.

Ning Sheng was finally willing to be friends with them again.

“Looks good.” Ning Sheng said, admiring Xu Ling’s new look, “I really treat you well.”

Xu Ling: “……”

Ning Sheng: “What’s with that look?”

Xu Ling: “I’m moved.”

Ning Sheng put his phone down, “That’s more like it.”

So remember my kindness and be more filial to me in the future.

“I’m so tired.” Ning Sheng complained.

“It has been hard on you, torturing us.” Xu Ling leaned in, his hair stiff with gel poking Ning Sheng.

Ning Sheng: “……”

**

“Where are they?” Ning Sheng asked impatiently.

In a dessert shop on the mall’s first floor, the tables were filled with customers.

A mother was celebrating the birthday of her daughter who was all dolled up.

“Sweetheart, smile.” The mother said, lifting her camera up.

The little girl: “Cheese.”

Then a polaroid photo slid out, only to slowly reveal the girl’s smiling face and in the background, two drooling faces that were pressed against the window.

The mother: “……”

“What are you two doing!” Ning Sheng shouted from outside the dessert shop, looking at the two figures stuck to the glass.

“I don’t know you.” Ning Sheng turned to leave but was pulled back by Xu Ling.

“Don’t get separated, let’s move together.” Xu Ling said as he pulled the two from the window.

“Isn’t it just cake?” Ning Sheng pulled his children’s bank card out, “Order! But after this, you can’t act like this again!”

He was going to buy Xu Ling the biggest one.

The broader the horizons, the more he could disdain everything. The Xu Ling he was raising had to look down on everyone equally in the future.

Ning Sheng bought four palm-sized cakes.

“How much?” Xu Ling asked.

Ning Sheng, expressionless, casually reported a four-digit number.

Li Haoyue: “……”

Lu Peng: “……”

“This bite of mine actually costs a quarter of a pig.” Lu Peng’s hand that was holding the spoon trembled.

Ning Sheng scooped three blueberries off his cake with a dessert spoon and held them out to Xu Ling.

“This is your reward.” He said softly.

“I thank you.” Xu Ling said in response.

*

In the shop they were in, there was a wishing wall for sticky notes.

And as Ning Sheng passed by after paying, he saw three new notes on the wall:

“I don’t want to catch pigs.”

“I hope there’s a difficult math problem every day.”

“Eliminate all blueberries from the world.”

“You’re dead.” Lu Peng poked Xu Ling, “Princess has seen it.”

“I can’t wait for him to come and beat me.” Xu Ling said mischievously, looking towards Ning Sheng.

However Ning Sheng didn’t look angry.

The black hoodie and cargo pants with numerous zippers and pockets which actually had a cool aesthetic suited Xu Ling’s wild and untamed style.

However on Ning Sheng, it looked different. He didn’t look wild nor bad, but like a rebellious young master who was trying hard to hide his innocence and naivety.

The dessert shop lights gently shone down from the ceiling, enveloping him.

He seemed in a good mood, even smiling.

Xu Ling’s sticky note had been stuck carelessly, and so was now almost falling off. Ning Sheng, for once, helped press it down securely.

“Dog Xu.” Lu Peng poked Xu Ling, “You’re smiling like a poodle.”

Xu Ling: “……”

Ning Sheng returned after paying the bill.

“Not eating?” Xu Ling asked him.

Ning Sheng shook his head, “Nothing compares to Auntie Xu’s sweet cakes.”

“This here is delicious!” Lu Peng devoured it, “Each bite tastes like money.”

Ning Sheng: “……”
