Chapter 13.2

In the town, at the car wash in front of Xu Ling’s house, Xu Ling sat cross-legged on the concrete ground, holding a high-pressure water gun, and chewing on a piece of dogtail grass. He aimed the gun at a dusty gray car.

“It’s still somewhat useful.” Xu Ling’s stepfather said, holding a cigarette. “Sunday is a busy day at home.”

“Hey?” After saying this, the man looked towards a figure hiding behind a tree and shouted, “Xu Ling, your little friend followed you.”

Ning Sheng hid himself quickly behind the tree, but his wheelchair gave him away. The high-pressure water jet hit his feet, lifting a cloud of dust, causing him to cry out softly.

Xu Ling’s stepfather smacked Xu Ling on the head.

When Ning Sheng opened his eyes, Xu Ling was standing in front of him. In one night’s absence, Xu Ling had changed into old clothes, and there was a large patch on his pants.

“Why didn’t you stay to study with me today? You had a tutoring session.” He asked.

“I’m a dummy.” Xu Ling told him. “What does a dummy need to study for?”

Ning Sheng was angry.

Even a bird knew it had to learn to fly first.

“If you don’t study, you’ll wash cars for the rest of your life!” He told him.

“You look down on car washing?” Xu Ling asked in return. “Water guns are so cool, but you’re a princess, so you wouldn’t understand.”

Ning Sheng: “You!”

His little devil king didn’t argue back today. He just dragged the high-pressure water gun and walked back to continue washing the dirt off the cars.

The afternoon sun was clear, and the two of them, one big and one small, were busy.

I didn’t say anything wrong, I’m doing it for his own good.

Ning Sheng thought in his heart.

“You don’t know what’s good for you.” Ning Sheng muttered under his breath. “I’m not going to talk to you anymore.”

Maybe nemesis’s couldn’t be raised.

Five minutes later, Ning Sheng’s wheelchair was at the car wash area.

“I think you’re not doing a good job.” Ning Sheng commented.

“I think so too.” Xu Ling said as he placed the water gun on Ning Sheng’s wheelchair. “Ning Ning must be good at everything.”

Ning Sheng: “……”

It’s so heavy.

He struggled to lift the water gun.

Then Xu Ling turned on the tap, and the water hit the car, making Ning Sheng flustered.

“What are you two doing?” Xu Ling’s stepfather, who had just finished one car, rushed over. He smacked Xu Ling on the head and then slapped the armrest of Ning Sheng’s wheelchair. “Go play elsewhere.”

The weather wasn’t too hot, and the man was wearing a white tank top, revealing his strong and toned arm muscles. He was smoking and humming a song while repeating the monotonous task.

Not far away, Xu Ling’s mother sat in the shade, weaving small toys with banana leaves. She would take these to the town to sell, earning 2 yuan for each.

Ning Sheng looked at it all and felt that everything was so close yet so far away.

He sat in the shadow of the tree and, looking up, saw the lively world on the other side.

“Xu Ling.” He suddenly began, “I…”

Xu Ling: “?”

Ning Sheng: “I…”

Hmm, this is difficult.

Xu Ling turned around, looking as if he was about to leave.

His heart sinking, Ning Sheng stammered, “I-I-I…”

Xu Ling: “??”

“What I said earlier…” Ning Sheng struggled to squeeze the words out of his mouth, “I’m… sorry.”

Xu Ling looked very surprised, as if he found it fresh, and he hung by the side of Ning Sheng’s wheelchair, looking up at him. “I didn’t hear.”

“I’m sorry!” Ning Sheng shouted loudly with a touch of fierceness.

“I never looked down on you, your parents, or your whole family!” Ning Sheng continued without restraint, and then he deflated a bit. “I just… I just…”

He just wanted Xu Ling to grow up well, to become a big devil king without weaknesses or vulnerabilities.

“I’m….. also not a good child either.” Ning Sheng said.

I also don’t know how to raise a good child.

Suddenly, he realized that Xu Ling might not need him.

After all, the last time they met, Xu Ling had no connection with him and still lived well.

Perhaps from the beginning, Xu Ling’s life didn’t need his interference.

Who would want to be friends with an arrogant young master like him? Why was he meddling in this at all?

Suddenly understanding this, Ning Sheng felt a bit lost.

His life goal, was gone.

He pushed his wheelchair himself, moving at a very slow speed.

As he reached the tree, a foot extended and pressed against his wheel.

“Move aside!” Ning Sheng said.

I’m letting you go, you won’t be my dog anymore. I really don’t have a dog this time, he thought sadly.

Two hands fell on his waist, lifted him out of the wheelchair, then the little devil king kicked his wheelchair far away.

Ning Sheng: “You even want to beat me?!”

Two nearby tree trunks had a swing hammock hanging between them. Xu Ling gave it a push, and Ning Sheng ended up sitting in the swing, swaying.

“Come play on the swing.” Xu Ling climbed onto the hammock and stepped on the net, rocking him.

Ning Sheng: “?”

Wasn’t he angry just now? Why was he suddenly asking him to play?

Was he just that unpredictable?

“The princess actually apologized to me.” Xu Ling said, “I’ve brought honor to my ancestors.”

“I didn’t apologize to you.” Ning Sheng’s cheeks were burning. “Don’t make things up.”

Who apologized?

He never admitted any wrongdoing to anyone.

“Swing higher.” He said.

At home, when he used the swing, it was usually pushed gently by a caregiver. The joy of being guided and played with like this was something he had never experienced before.

“Little Young Master Ning?” The caregiver came over to remind him, “You have a rehab training session this afternoon.”

“Ah…” Ning Sheng hated this. He used to hate it before, and he still hated it now. Some of the training was painful and difficult to endure, and it was hard to stay motivated.

Anyway when he reached a certain age, he would be able to stand up and walk, and that would be fine. Running was another story, but who needed this training? It was all a waste.

Ten minutes later, after his grandmother called and scolded him over the phone, Ning Sheng was taken away, an upset expression on his face.

Under the tree, Xu Ling jumped off the swing and went to pick up the high-pressure water gun.

“Go, go, don’t get in the way.” His stepfather shooed him. “Go play with your little friend.”

“Little Bell and the little princess have such a good relationship.” Xu Ling’s mother smiled. “You’re like real brothers who grew up together, so don’t bully your little brother, okay?”

Sitting in the car on his way home, Ning Sheng thought about how much he should roll to avoid his rehab training later.

His children’s phone buzzed and showed a text message from an unknown number.

[Unknown Number]: Ning Ning.

Ning Sheng replied: Dad?

Then he added: Mom?

[Unknown Number]: It’s Xu Ling.

[Unknown Number]: It’s Little Bell.

Ning Sheng: ?

Ning Sheng replied: Stop texting. Each message costs money, and your dad will scold you.

This was all Xu Ling’s fault. He had even learned to be thrifty.
