Chapter 57.2
Editor: Princess
In the afternoon, Xu Ling brought Ning Sheng along, and work efficiency plummeted immediately.
He set up a small stool for Ning Sheng under a tree, handed him a fan, and poured him a cup of water.
“Don’t you want to borrow an ox to plow the field first?” Ning Sheng recalled the steps he had looked up online.
“There’s no need.” Li Haoyue fanned him. “Those two are more useful than an ox.”
Ning Sheng turned his head to see Xu Ling and Lu Peng wielding hoes, randomly smashing in the field.
Ning Sheng: “…”
“Look.” The math nerd pulled out a blueprint. “I’ve precisely calculated the area of each radish hole, with reasonable planning. This field can plant at most…”
Ning Sheng: “Get lost.”
None of these people were normal.
“Then let’s eat watermelon.” Li Haoyue said. “I picked the roundest watermelon, it’s a perfect geometric shape.”
**
Xu Ling finished smashing the radish holes, wiped his sweat with a towel, and turned to look at the shady spot under the tree.
Ning Sheng was sitting on the small stool eating watermelon.
The math nerd had cut the melon into a beautiful semicircle, and as Ning Sheng held it, it was pleasing to the eye.
“He didn’t do any work, yet he’s the first to eat the melon.” Xu Ling said.
“Don’t blame him, I’ll do his share.” Lu Peng hoed the ground vigorously and dug up a field mouse.
The field mouse scurried toward Ning Sheng’s direction.
Ning Sheng: “Ah! There’s Jerry!”
Xu Ling: “…”
Ning Sheng glared at each of them and moved to a different patch of tree shade to eat his watermelon.
Under the blazing sun, only the tree shade provided coolness, while the cicadas on the branches never stopped their noise.
Fortunately, the math nerd’s family watermelon was very sweet, and Ning Sheng ate two pieces.
Not far away, under the bright summer sunlight, three people planted carrots playfully while fooling around.
Sweat soaked Xu Ling’s white shirt, and under the semi-transparent fabric, the outline of his muscle definition was clear. Ning Sheng ate another piece of watermelon enviously.
“I want to help too.” He said.
Xu Ling: “?”
Xu Ling: “You should have said so earlier. We’re all finished now.”
Xu Ling: “How about you help me wipe off my sweat?”
Ning Sheng made an “oh” sound, took out a small handkerchief from his pocket, stood on his tiptoes, and gently pressed the handkerchief against Xu Ling’s temple.
Xu Ling had been under the sun for half the day without getting dizzy, yet now, catching Ning Sheng’s clean, fresh scent, he felt dizzy instead.
He was covered in sweat with mud on his face, looking like a dirty stray dog, while Ning Sheng approached him clean and pristine, like a cool afternoon breeze.
“There are still a few carrot seeds left.” Lu Peng pulled out a handful from his pocket. “Princess, do you want to plant them?”
Ning Sheng: “Huh?”
Ning Sheng: “I want to plant them.”
“Let me see.” Xu Ling took them over. “These seeds are no good. They’ll only grow bad carrots.”
Then he raised his hand and scattered the seeds.
Lu Peng: “?”
“Can Dog Xu tell good seeds from bad?” Lu Peng asked Li Haoyue.
“I can tell a bad person.” Li Haoyue patted Lu Peng’s head like patting a watermelon. “Want me to show you?”
Lu Peng: “…?”
Lu Peng stated firmly: “You’re insulting me.”
Ning Sheng avoided the blazing sun entirely and successfully completed the carrot-planting task assigned by Aunt Xu.
Today he brought Xu Ling back to his grandmother’s side and gave her the woven leaf handbag from Xu Ling’s mother.
His grandmother immediately posted it on social media to show off to her group of old friends.
“By the way, Ning Ning.” His grandmother said. “Last time you mentioned wanting to learn German together with Xu Ling?”
Ning Sheng: “Hmm?”
He had an impression. He had indeed mentioned this to his grandmother before.
Languages were his strong suit and the big demon king’s weakness. He had always wanted to strengthen Xu Ling’s abilities to make him more perfect.
He paused, suddenly recalling Xu Ling’s whisper in his ear before sleep last night.
Xu Ling had said not to be afraid, that no matter when, he would take him along.
The current Xu Ling is already fine. I don’t need to raise a perfect big demon king.
Ning Sheng thought to himself.
I’m so smart and so good at making money. Just giving a little would be enough to feed Dog Xu for a long time.
“He’s not learning anymore.” Ning Sheng said. “And those etiquette classes and international chess classes I mentioned before, he’s not taking those either.”
Xu Ling: “?”
Ning Sheng: “Because he… he doesn’t deserve them.”
Xu Ling: “??”
“Grandma.” Ning Sheng showed his grandmother a group photo of the four of them. “We went to plant carrots today. It was so tiring.”
In the photo, three people were tanned dark and grinning at the camera, while only Ning Sheng was so pale he nearly glowed.
Grandmother: “Looking at this photo…”
Grandmother: “Even the carrots worked harder than you.”
Ning Sheng: “…”
After dealing with the two of them, his grandmother went to wash up and rest.
Ning Sheng held Xu Ling’s hand and returned to his own bedroom.
“How long until we can eat our carrots?” Ning Sheng asked.
“November or December.” Xu Ling smiled as he closed the door, grabbed his wrist, and swept his leg across.
Ning Sheng was directly tripped and fell sideways, gently placed down by Xu Ling onto the carpet.
“Am I not good to you?” Xu Ling crouched down beside him.
Ning Sheng: “What’s gotten into you all of a sudden?!”
The difference in strength made his struggles insignificant.
“Do you want to go to hobby classes with other people?” Xu Ling asked. “Are you looking for someone else?”
Ning Sheng: “???”
Ning Sheng: “Xu Dashan! Are you looking for a beating?”
