Chapter 54.2

The little thug had been running rampant in Qing’an’s vegetable market with forced low-price purchases so many times, but this was the first time he had run into forced high-price selling.

He had originally looked around then picked someone who looked quiet and easy to bully. He didn’t expect that there would actually be people behind him. He had delivered himself into a den of demons.

“This little bit of meat, selling for over 2,000. Can eating this pork make you live longer?” The little thug said.

“I don’t know if eating it will make you live longer.” Ning Sheng answered. “But if you don’t buy it, you definitely won’t live long today.”

The little thug: “…”

“You’re selling him this small piece for over 2,000?” Xu Ling pulled Ning Sheng aside to ask. “Do you have any common sense?”

Ning Sheng: “Lu Peng’s scale displayed it automatically.”

Xu Ling: “That’s the weight! The decimal point light is broken!”

“So what if it is! Why are you yelling at me?!” Ning Sheng asked.

Xu Ling: “Ning Ning, I was wrong.”

Xu Ling turned to the little thug and slammed the table frantically: “Buy it quickly!”

Xu Ling: “Lu Peng, re-price it.”

Ning Sheng: “Hmph.”

The little thug reluctantly paid the money, carried the huge piece of pork, and walked away cursing, saying as he left that Qing’an Town’s folk customs were too fierce and that he needed to change towns to live.

“He’s been bullying people in town anyway.” Ning Sheng said.

“Ning Ning is amazing.” Xu Ling patted his head.

“Don’t touch me, you just touched pork.” Ning Sheng dodged to the side.

A little brat who only knew how to play still wanted to pat his head—insubordination was wrong.

“You sell the meat yourself.” Xu Ling turned to Lu Peng. “Ning Ning hasn’t eaten breakfast yet. I’ll take him to eat.”

Lu Peng was startled: “He hasn’t eaten yet? Then you two go quickly.”

Ning Sheng waved: “Bye bye.”

He and Xu Ling walked into the bustling crowd together.

“Dog Xu is rash and careless, but he can still remember this.” Lu Peng said.

Li Haoyue: “He just looks rash, unlike some people who are rash inside and out.”

Lu Peng: “Yeah.”

A few minutes later, Lu Peng: “Math nerd, are you insulting me?”

Near Golden Sun Primary School, a new sweet soup shop had opened. Ning Sheng had always wanted to come here, and now was the perfect time to eat.

The shop had a small blackboard at the entrance listing soy milk, coffee, and fermented rice balls with various items for sale.

“In the future, if you don’t like something… you can tell me.” Ning Sheng said. “This young master won’t force you…”

Ning Sheng: “But my pork rib soup really was okay. Look, you’re still alive…”

Xu Ling: “…”

“You can’t… dislike me.” Ning Sheng said. “This young master’s intentions… are good.”

Xu Ling: “I don’t dislike you, I don’t dislike you.”

How could he dislike him?

“Little Flower God, what would you like to drink?” The shop owner came over to serve them.

Ning Sheng: “…”

“Cantaloupe milk.” He said with his head down, wanting to bury himself in the ground. “I’m not the Little Flower God, you saw wrong.”

Xu Ling made a shushing gesture to the shop owner.

The shop owner: “Okay, I was blind.”

“Cantaloupe milk with ice.” Ning Sheng added.

“Early autumn is almost over. Why add ice? Don’t add ice, give him a hot one.” Xu Ling said.

Ning Sheng: “Hot doesn’t taste good.”

Xu Ling: “When you catch cold and get a fever, the medicine will taste even worse.”

Ning Sheng: “…”

“Wait for summer.” Xu Ling told him. “When the weather gets hot, then you can add ice.”

Outside the window was a clear blue sky with autumn leaves gently falling from the branches.

The cantaloupe milk in the glass was steaming hot.

Ding dong, clang.

Crystal clear ice cubes fell into the glass, making crisp sounds.

Fair, slender fingers touched the glass wall, then withdrew gently, leaving a water mark on the fingertips.

Outside the window were the cicadas of Qing’an Town’s midsummer.

“Delicious.” Ning Sheng said. “It really is better with ice.”

“Is it?” Asked Xu Ling, who was sitting across from him.

Ning Sheng: “Sit properly!”

Seventeen-year-old Xu Ling had no proper sitting posture, leaning against the back of the chair lazily, sitting sideways with one leg propped on the table leg and the other stretched out, as if the table was wronging his long legs.

Xu Ling drawled an “oh” and withdrew his leg, sitting up straight.

“I think iced cantaloupe milk doesn’t taste good.” Xu Ling said.

Ning Sheng: “How is that possible?”

Xu Ling: “Let me taste it again.”

Ning Sheng didn’t suspect anything and pushed his drink over.

Xu Ling opened his mouth and drank most of it, leaving him with less than half a glass.

Xu Ling: “It’s not bad.”

Ning Sheng: “Xu Dashan! Are you a whale?”

“What’s wrong, what’s wrong?” Lu Peng, who had returned from his run, lifted the door curtain and walked in. “You annoyed him again.”

“He has a chance of getting a fever if he drinks a whole glass of ice.” Xu Ling said in a low voice.

Lu Peng: “Then let me drink the rest too.”

Lu Peng reached out his hand.

“Put it down!” Ning Sheng said.

Lu Peng’s hand shook and he withdrew it.

Xu Ling hummed half a song.

“Buy your own, buy whatever you want.” Ning Sheng pushed out a card.

Lu Peng bought an iced watermelon juice and drained it in one gulp.

Ning Sheng: “…”

These barbarians.

“Finished running?” Xu Ling asked.

“Today’s portion is complete.” Lu Peng showed off the big muscles on his arm. “Strong enough.”

“I have them too.” Xu Ling rolled up his sleeve. “Mine look better than yours.”

Li Haoyue: “I have a little too. Doing more problems makes my arms stronger.”

Ning Sheng: “…”

These male high school students were really annoying.

“After summer vacation, we’ll be seniors soon.” Ning Sheng said. “You should worry about your terrible academic performance instead.”

Lu Peng deflated.

“The sun is about to set.” Ning Sheng said. “We can go let the little lamb out.”

During their vacation, they would lead the little lamb to the mountains to eat some grass, so today they also went to the mountains following their usual route.

Ning Sheng grabbed Xu Ling’s sleeve as they walked up the hillside. During this time, he stumbled once, but was caught by Xu Ling.

The little devil king had grown up and become stronger, easily able to steady him.

Sometimes he felt that Xu Ling couldn’t be tamed or raised properly, but other times he felt that Xu Ling was quite obedient.

“I want to climb that tree.” Ning Sheng pointed in a direction.

“I’ll lift you up.” Xu Ling said eagerly.

Ning Sheng had grown a little taller. His clean, thin white shirt made his figure appear slender with well-proportioned bones and flesh.

Xu Ling’s hands pressed against the young man’s waist, pushing him up the tree, his fingertips lightly brushing across the young man’s waist.

Four people sat on the treetop watching the sunset.

“I have a question.” Xu Ling spoke up.

Ning Sheng: “?”

Xu Ling: “Didn’t we forget to bring the lamb?”
