Chapter 50.2
Editor: Princess
The children from Qing’an Town were experts at climbing mountains, swimming, climbing trees, and getting into trouble. So as soon as the test began, Lu Peng rushed to the front.
The two male students behind probably had friends participating in the test too, because they shouted encouragement very loudly and kicked Ning Sheng’s chair several times.
Ning Sheng slightly frowned, feeling unhappy.
Xu Ling bent the gold bracelet back into a not-so-beautiful circle. However when he turned his head, the corners of Ning Sheng’s lips were pressed down slightly, his eyelashes lowered, his gaze cold and full of despair, looking very unhappy.
“It’ll do for wearing.” Xu Ling put the peace bracelet back on him. “Your wrist bones are so thin.”
Ning Sheng: “Hitting you still hurts just the same.”
“Stop kicking his chair.” Xu Ling put his hand on Ning Sheng’s shoulder and said, turning back.
The people behind paused and stopped.
Lu Peng finished one lap, maintaining first place as he crossed the finish line.
“Very good.” Ning Sheng threw a bottle of mineral water down. “You didn’t embarrass this young master.”
Lu Peng raised his hand and caught it.
“Tch.” The friend of the person behind didn’t win against Lu Peng, falling slightly behind. The male student behind became even more unhappy. “Rough mountains and evil waters produce wicked people, they’re only good at running.”
“Just average.” Ning Sheng said. “Lu Peng is only a bit faster than a pig.”
Xu Ling: “…”
“Qian Cheng!” The person behind raised his hand and threw water to his friend on the field. “Catch!”
The mineral water bottle cap wasn’t tightened properly, hence it sprayed an arc of water in the air, splashing and wetting Ning Sheng’s hair.
Ning Sheng turned around: “You!”
“You can hit him.” Xu Ling said.
Li Haoyue dropped his test paper and threw an extremely thick book out.
While Xu Ling flipped over the stands with one hand pressing the backrest, grabbed the neck of the water-throwing male student behind, and slammed him to the ground.
These city students had never seen such quick, precise, and fierce fighting before. They froze on the spot and then were tripped by the slowly approaching Ning Sheng.
“You could be even more decisive.” Xu Ling commented.
Ning Sheng tripped Xu Ling with one foot.
“What’s going on!” The PE teacher who was on the field saw the commotion and shouted. “Why are you fighting!”
The teacher asked the students on the field: “Whose friends are those? This is outrageous!”
Lu Peng, with a righteous face: “Teacher, this is…”
“Brother Qian!” Ning Sheng’s voice came from the stands. “Qian Cheng! Come on! They were talking bad about you and have been taken down by us. You must outrun that big fool.”
Beaten boy 1: “…”
Beaten boy 2: “…”
Qian Cheng: “Teacher, I don’t know…”
“Bad at running and causing trouble!” The teacher scolded Qian Cheng harshly. “What are you saying, trying to make excuses!”
Lu Peng wiped his sweat, registered a few data points, felt confident he had secured a position, and secretly slipped away to reunite with his small group.
“Stay away from me.” Ning Sheng said. “You smell of sweat.”
Lu Peng: “Sob.”
“When I was walking over earlier, were you going to slap him?” Xu Ling asked Ning Sheng.
Ning Sheng: “Hmph.”
Xu Ling: “Why didn’t you?”
“This young master didn’t want… to get his palm smacked.” Ning Sheng said unhappily, leaning against a tree.
The evening breeze cut a corner of sunlight and drifted into Xu Ling’s heart.
It scorched him so much that he couldn’t help but raise his hand and ruffle the soft black hair of the person in front of him.
How could someone be like sunlight, warming you as soon as you touched them?
“When I’m around, you can hit.” Xu Ling said. “That time I wasn’t angry at you for hitting someone, I was worried you wouldn’t win the fight.”
Ning Sheng: “Oh.”
“If he bullies you, I’ll help you beat him away.” Xu Ling said.
During evening self-study, the three were called to the office again. And in the office sat the two injured male students and their angry parents, as well as the still confused Brother Qian.
Xu Ling moved a chair, Li Haoyue found a cushion and laid it down, and Ning Sheng sat down.
“How much?” Ning Sheng took out his card.
The homeroom teacher: “…”
The homeroom teacher: “They want to talk to your parents.”
“Ok.” Ning Sheng said. “Give me your passport numbers, I’ll book you flight tickets.”
His grandmother seemed to be in Antarctica watching penguins recently.
“Hello, I’m the first in our grade.” Li Haoyue shook hands with the parents. “I should be the most mature of the three of us, so you can talk to me.”
One insulted people with money, and one insulted people with grades. The parents turned to Xu Ling, who had been silent.
“How could you hit people?” The parent asked.
Xu Ling: “Your son told us to hit him.”
Xu Ling: “He said we’re from rough mountains and evil waters producing wicked people, and we are indeed wicked.”
“Write your self-criticisms.” The homeroom teacher rubbed his temples.
“That’s great.” Ning Sheng beckoned the two to leave. “Our self-criticisms were just short on words.”
The homeroom teacher: “…”
Lu Peng was waiting for the three of them in the corridor.
“Is there really nothing in our Qing’an Town?” Lu Peng asked.
Ning Sheng: “We have the sun.”
Xu Ling held Ning Sheng’s hand, his lips slightly curving.
That night, at the car wash in Qing’an Town.
Xu Ling’s mother had just finished washing a car when she received a video call.
Xu Ling: “Mom.”
Ning Sheng, Lu Peng, the math nerd: “Mom.”
Xu Ling’s mother hung up the phone.
Xu Ling’s stepfather: “What’s wrong?”
Xu Ling’s mother: “I’m a bit scared, it feels like nothing good is coming.”
“It’s nothing major.” Xu Ling called again. “The teacher asked the four of us to call our parents.”
Xu Ling: “And after our unanimous vote, we chose you.”
Xu Ling’s mother: “Should I be proud?”
Xu Ling’s mother: “Let’s help each other.”
Xu Ling: “One word and that’s final, no refusal.”
“The pomegranates are ripe.” Aunt Xu said.
Xu Ling: “We should come back to help eat them?”
Aunt Xu: “Let me finish speaking!”
“The harvest festival market is about to begin this year, and the town can’t find a suitable person to play the pomegranate flower god.” Aunt Xu said. “The market people said they saw you all earlier and even gave you Xu Youcai, so… they asked if they could borrow Ning Ning.”
Aunt Xu: “That little red dress is so pretty, when you all come back on your weekend break, just…”
Xu Ling: “…”
“Report! Dog Xu!” Lu Peng said. “Princess just climbed over the balcony and ran away.”
