Chapter 36.2
Editor: Jodi
A Maybach approached slowly.
“My Ning Ning has been recovering pretty well lately.” Ning Sheng’s grandmother started, “It’s just that this child always says the opposite of what he means. I’m worried he’s too introverted, so can you make some time to take a look at him?”
Family doctor: “Of course.”
The car stopped at the gate of Xu Ling’s Car Wash City.
Ning Sheng’s grandmother: “…..”
There were three people hanging from a small tree at the gate of the Car Wash City, with one of them trying to pull the other up, while Ning Sheng poked at them with a clothes drying pole.
“Come down, come down, and let me beat you guys to death.” Ning Sheng said angrily.
“Princess, we’re just letting you win.” Lu Peng said.
Li Haoyue: “Wuwu, I’m going to slip down.”
“Give Ning Ning a break.” Xu Ling said calmly.
The small tree made a cracking sound, then tilted to one side.
Xu Ling’s stepdad turned around: “That’s my newly planted tree!”
“Very….. lively.” The family doctor said, “Very, very good.”
Ning Sheng’s grandmother: “…..”
Ning Sheng’s grandmother delivered a big bag of snacks to Ning Sheng.
“Ning Ning.” She started, “I’m going to S City to spend the New Year with your parents this year. Will you come with me?”
Xu Ling, who was opening snacks, froze.
“I won’t be able to finish my homework.” He told her.
His grandmother: “What, you won’t be able to write the moment you leave Qing’an Town?”
“Forget it.” She added, “Little brat, stay wherever you want, I can’t control you.”
“Grandma is the best.” Ning Sheng gave her a hug.
“Your heart has gone wild.” She glared at him.
Ning Sheng’s grandmother left in the car, then Xu Ling’s mom called them to help hang the New Year’s lanterns.
They needed to hang them at the front door, and also on the tree.
“Mom!” Xu Ling yelled into the house, “We don’t need to hang them on the tree, it’s already fallen over!”
A basin flew out, however he caught it with a flick of his wrist.
Ning Sheng was wearing a snow-white down jacket today. After messing around with them, the jacket was smudged with several marks, making him no cleaner than these town monkeys, however his face was still clean and pretty, his expression dignified.
This was the first time this little young master was holding a big red lantern and so he looked it over curiously, completely ignoring the fact that his exposed fingers were already turning slightly red from the cold.
Xu Ling moved a table to the door.
“I want to hang it.” Ning Sheng told him.
Xu Ling blurted out, “You can’t reach it, right?”
“I’m not short!” Ning Sheng said angrily.
Xu Ling: “Wow, nice punch.”
Ning Sheng wobbled as he stood on the table, but Xu Ling held onto his small calves to support him.
“Ah… Ah ah ah.” 12-year-old Ning Sheng tried hard to stand on his tiptoes, getting more and more frustrated as he did so, however the lantern just continued to stay a little out of reach.
The winter wind blew, and the lanterns swayed.
The brand-new red color of the lanterns, after many years, swayed into a dusty warm red.
14-year-old Ning Sheng stood on the table and took last year’s lantern down.
“Give it to me.” He reached out, and Xu Ling handed him the new lantern.
And raising his hand, Ning Sheng hung it at the front door.
“Done.” He patted the dust off his hands and jumped off the table, “This Young master did it with ease.”
Xu Ling: “It seems like…. we hung it inside the door.”
Ning Sheng: “….”
“Princess!” Lu Peng shouted from the gate of the yard, “Fireworks?”
“Coming!” Ning Sheng jumped onto the back seat of Xu Ling’s bicycle, “Dog Xu, bring that giant one that I bought out.”
Lu Peng: “Whoa, how much did it cost?”
Ning Sheng: “Only a little over 5,000.”
Lu Peng pinched the bridge of his nose.
The group carried the fireworks down to the riverside.
“Set it up here.” Li Haoyue directed, “Then four steps over here, right, it’s a five-pointed star.”
Li Haoyue: “We need to set off fireworks with a shape.”
“Next time you eat, carve a five-pointed star as well.” Ning Sheng rolled his eyes, “Eat shaped food.”
Li Haoyue: “Who’s going to light it?”
Lu Peng: “Princess?”
“He can’t light it.” Xu Ling flicked a lighter, “He’s scared of fire, he only dares to watch.”
Ning Sheng: “Hmph.”
“This is our village’s territory.” A disharmonious voice interrupted, “We set off fireworks here last night, so take your stuff away.”
Then they moved to push their fireworks.
“Don’t touch them.” Ning Sheng said, “You can’t afford them.”
“You’re looking down on me?” The other side asked.
Ning Sheng: “Do you still need to ask?”
Ning Sheng: “Does this pond have your name on it?”
Ning Sheng: “Or are you the local land god?”
The other side couldn’t come up with a single response, so the argument turned into a fight.
Xu Ling snapped his fingers, “Go.”
Both sides started brawling.
Meanwhile Ning Sheng sat on his giant fireworks box, eating chips, looking quite bored.
“There’s one more over here!” Someone from the other side shouted, “Get him!”
Then someone charged at Ning Sheng.
Ning Sheng: “???”
He put his phone back in his pocket, stood up lazily, ran two steps, thought about it, didn’t feel like running, and so stuck his foot out, tripped the guy, then flipped him over his shoulder.
Ning Sheng: “Hmph.”
“Good, beautiful.” Xu Ling called from a distance, “You didn’t learn just for the sake of it.”
“Princess is awesome.” Lu Peng added.
“Perfect score.” Li Haoyue added as well.
Ning Sheng sat back on his fireworks box and pulled his wallet out to count the money.
“We can only get 300 yuan today.” Ning Sheng said, “This young master didn’t bring his bank card.”
Xu Ling: “Understood.”
It was always the fists that did the talking in Qing’an Town, and Xu Ling’s fists won.
Xu, Lu, and Li held the guy who had just ambushed Ning Sheng down, looking fierce.
“Why did you bully him?” Xu Ling asked, “You even hurt his hand.”
“Exactly.” Lu Peng said, pressing the guy harder, “Be honest, did you hurt him?”
Xu Ling: “Speak! Why did you bully him?”
Ning Sheng: “…..”
Ning Sheng: “You’re covering his mouth, do you want him to explain with his eyes!”
