Chapter 34.2

Editor: Jodi

Ning Sheng held his sore cheek, feeling a bit sad.

His dog had grown up and had now started pushing people around.

Forget it, it was okay as long as he didn’t bite or eat people.

“How much is this?” Someone stopped next to him.

Ning Sheng: “Hmm?”

The person pointed at the woven leaf toys in his hand.

Ning Sheng didn’t know how much Xu Ling wanted to sell them for today.

However he guessed that at a market fair like this, selling them for 10 yuan each should be about right.

“50 yuan each.” He said indifferently.

The person sucked in a breath of cold air, “Huh? This thing is that expensive?”

“It’s cheaper if you buy more.” Ning Sheng added. “If you buy two, the price is 25 yuan each, but if you buy five, it’s 10 yuan each.”

The person: “Wow, only 10 yuan? I’ll buy five reluctantly.”

Ning Sheng handed over five of the leaf toys and received a 50-yuan bill.

Both parties felt that they had scored a great deal.

“Unscrupulous businessman.” A voice said behind him.

Ning Sheng: “?”

Beside him was a vegetable stall, where a certain senior student who had once cornered him for money was sitting in the vendor’s spot.

“No business without trickery.” Ning Sheng said back.

A certain senior student: “……”

“Want a seat?” The senior waved at him amicably.

Ning Sheng: “Get lost.”

“I really have an extra stool. Come sit.” The senior offered again.

Ning Sheng glanced at the vegetable stall, then made his way over reluctantly.

The senior rummaged through his cash box and pulled out a bag of shredded pork floss. “Want some?”

Ning Sheng hesitated for a moment, then said firmly, “No.”

“How about this?” The senior held up a packet of crispy noodles.

Ning Sheng: “Give it here, let me inspect it.”

The taste wasn’t bad. He would save some for Xu Ling.

Soon, customers started arriving at the vegetable stall, and the senior busied himself with helping them pick the vegetables, weighing them, and collecting money.

Ning Sheng sat back leisurely, watching the bustle, when his foot nudged something round and firm.

“What’s this?” He asked.

“You don’t even recognize cabbage?” The senior was surprised.

Ning Sheng: “I recognize it when it’s cooked. Got a problem with that?”

“These don’t look like the ones we buy at home.” Ning Sheng added, “They’re all covered in mud.”

The senior: “……”

“Yeah, these aren’t great.” The senior admitted. “They taste bland, aren’t worth much, and no one’s buying them. I was planning to throw them out.”

Ning Sheng: “Then why not give them away? Offer a free cabbage with every purchase of other vegetables. Clear out all the ones you were going to throw away—buy 2 yuan worth, and get a cabbage for free.”

The senior: “?”

The senior: “!!!”

Ning Sheng: “Kneel down and thank me.”

You have absolutely no idea who just gave you this advice.

Ning Sheng: “In no time, you’ll be stealing all the business from the other stalls.”

“Oh, by the way.” Ning Sheng continued, “I’ll use the crowd you attract to sell my woven leaf toys. Buy my toys, and you get a cabbage for free.”

**

On the other side of the market fair.

Xu Ling leaned against a vegetable stall, waiting for the fried cakes he had just bought for Ning Sheng.

The vegetable stall wasn’t doing well, and Grandma Chen, who was running it, kept sighing.

“You might want to tweak your prices a bit.” Xu Ling told her. “Change 2 yuan to 1.99 yuan, and 5 yuan per pound to 4.99 yuan per pound. It’ll look cheaper, and you won’t really lose anything.”

“This…..” His gaze landed on the cabbages. “It looks like they aren’t selling well this year. How about I make a sign for you? ‘Get a few cabbage leaves for just a dime.’ It could draw in some customers.”

Then he added, “Trust me, soon this will be the busiest stall on the street.”

You have absolutely no idea who just gave you this advice.

When Xu Ling finally found Ning Sheng, he had already left the vegetable stall. He was sitting on a chair by a fried ice cream stall, waiting for his deep-fried milk ice cream, and counting a stack of bills in his hand.

“Here.” Ning Sheng handed over the money. “I sold everything.”

“Ning Ning, you’re amazing.” Xu Ling hugged him.

“Get off.” Ning Sheng pushed him away. “This is for you to eat.”

He had bought four servings of fried ice cream.

“Freshly grilled pork belly, ha ha ha!” Lu Peng plopped down beside them, holding a bunch of skewers. “This stuff is so good! If only they’d set up shop in front of our school.”

Lu Peng: “Princess, aren’t you going to eat?”

Ning Sheng shook his head.

“Why do the two of you keep staring at that vegetable stall?” Li Haoyue asked, “What’s so interesting over there?”

Ning Sheng: “Hmph.”

Xu Ling: “?”

Xu Ling retracted his gaze: “Ning Ning, are you planning to never eat pork again?”

Ning Sheng: “……”

“Princess needs to eat more meat. You’re so thin.” Lu Peng said, “Just look at your wrist.”

“As long as it doesn’t look bad, it’s fine.” Ning Sheng responded dismissively.

“How could the school beauty look bad?” Lu Peng said.

Then he received a hit.

Xu Ling stared at the slender wrist of the person next to him thoughtfully.

“This is so good.” Li Haoyue munched on the pork belly vigorously. “It’s as satisfying as solving a competition problem.”

Ning Sheng: “Unpromising….. mmm!”

Taking advantage of Ning Sheng’s open mouth, Xu Ling stuffed a piece of grilled pork belly in and then covered his mouth.

“……” Li Haoyue was stunned.

“Holy crap.” Lu Peng was shocked.

“Xu Dashan!!!” Sure enough, the moment Ning Sheng freed himself, he rolled up his sleeves and raised his hand.

Lu Peng didn’t dare look.

Li Haoyue closed his eyes.

Xu Ling covered his head.

“Give me another skewer.” Ning Sheng said sadly.
