Chapter 33.1

“Does it hurt?” Ning Sheng supported Xu Ling.
Xu Ling: “It hurts.”
Xu Ling: “Are we good now?”
Ning Sheng: “Are you emotionally blackmailing me?”
“You just reminded me.” Xu Ling shifted his weight onto Ning Sheng, clutched his leg, then began to wail, “It hurts so much, my leg is going to break!”
Ning Sheng: “……”
He gritted his teeth, “Xu Dashan! You’re holding the wrong leg. You fell on the other one.”
Xu Ling looked down, “Alright, I’ll fix it.”
After adjusting, he continued to lean his weight on Ning Sheng, “Still thinking about abandoning me?”
“I’m not abandoning you, alright!” Ning Sheng said, “You’re heavy as a rock, stop leaning on me.”
“Got it.” Xu Ling straightened up, walking briskly as he dragged Ning Sheng to the school clinic.
In Ning Sheng’s mind, the school clinic was a place where famous doctors sat, curing all ailments with a single treatment.
However the reality was that in the school clinic, the headmaster was sipping tea while listening to an opera broadcast.
Ning Sheng: “……”
“Come back!” The headmaster shouted from behind, “My treatments are just as effective!”
“You moonlight as the school doctor too?” Ning Sheng asked.
“I am the school doctor!” The headmaster handed Xu Ling two band-aids and a basket of peanuts.
“Teacher Wang gave them to you.” The headmaster explained. “He wanted to thank you for not running into his grandson.”
Xu Ling felt a bit embarrassed, “Ah, this….”
The headmaster told him, “Don’t be shy, you earned it.”
“Alright then.” Xu Ling said, “I’ll be blunt. This basket isn’t enough. Can I get some more?”
The headmaster: “……”
By evening, the sports day had ended, and Xu Ling was going home, his hands full.
Hanging from the handlebars of his bike were peanuts, while Ning Sheng sat on the seat of his bike.
In the basket of his bike were the grand prizes he’d won for the 3000-meter race and the 4×100 relay.
“Dog Xu, what do you need so many peanuts for?” Ning Sheng asked.
“Heh heh, Princess, you wouldn’t know this, but Teacher Wang’s peanuts are absolutely delicious.” Lu Peng chimed in.
Ning Sheng: “Scram.”
Li Haoyue: “Xu Ge knows how to make peanut soup…”
Ning Sheng: “Scram.”
“I’ll make some crushed peanut ice cream and peanut soup for you later.” Xu Ling told him.
Ning Sheng: “Scram.”
Xu Ling: “You don’t want to eat it?”
Ning Sheng: “You don’t need to scram this time.”
The three bicycles bumped along the road until they stopped under a tree at the entrance of Xu Ling’s family’s car wash.
Where Xu Ling’s stepfather grabbed a hose and sprayed the dirty bicycles down.
Ning Sheng stood by the pigpen, watching his little piglets. Meanwhile, Ning Sheng’s dog dragged its two legs and stood by the gate with his dogs, where they muttered—
“What have you two done?” Xu Ling asked them. “Why do I feel like I’m the one getting punished by association?”
“The maths nerd let it slip accidentally.” Lu Peng told him, “He said little suckling piglets taste good.”
Xu Ling: “And what about you?”
Lu Peng grinned sheepishly, “I kind of let it slip too.”
Xu Ling clutched his head, “Are your mouths strainers or something?”
“You’re being too polite.” Lu Peng said. “It’s more like a leaky ladle.”
“Stop saying random things.” Xu Ling warned.
“Doesn’t it look well-raised?” Xu Ling asked as he walked over to the pigpen.
Ning Sheng was a little unhappy, “Why do I feel it’s not as cute as it was last week?”
Xu Ling froze for a moment, “It’s still cute, see? It’s eyes, nose, and ears are all there.”
“Then I’ll bring Qi Qi back tomorrow. The housekeeper uncle doesn’t know how to take care of it.” Ning Sheng told him.
“It really was cuter last week.” Li Haoyue whispered to Lu Peng, “It just got bigger.”
Lu Peng: “……Shh.”
“Shushing me won’t help.” Li Haoyue said. “It’ll grow even bigger.”
