Chapter 32.2

Editor: Jodi

“Watch me.” Xu Ling stood up, “He definitely won’t have the heart to tell me to scram.”

“Ning Ning.” Xu Ling called out.

Ning Sheng lifted his hand and pointed into the distance.

“Dog Xu, he doesn’t even think it’s worth telling you to scram.” Lu Peng said.

“Why do I feel as if he wasn’t this mad yesterday?” Xu Ling muttered to himself, “Who poured oil on the fire?”

Lu Peng whistled.

Xu Ling swaggered over, then plopped down beside Ning Sheng, stretching his arm out and resting it on Ning Sheng’s shoulder.

“Still mad?” He asked.

Then he shook him a bit, “Say something.”

Ning Sheng: “Otherwise? You‘ll break my legs and weld me to a wheelchair?”

Xu Ling: “……”

“I was wrong.” Xu Ling slid to his knees.

Ning Sheng stood up and started to walk away, “Continue being wrong.”

Xu Ling: “?”

“Aren’t you supposed to ask me ‘What did you do wrong?’ so I can apologize to you?” Xu Ling chased after him, “Ning Ning! Ning Sheng!”

“I really was wrong. I shouldn’t have scolded you on the spot yesterday.” Xu Ling said.

Ning Sheng stopped in his tracks, “Shouldn’t have scolded me on the spot? Were you planning to save it up and scold me at home?!”

Xu Ling: “……”

Raising his hand, Xu Ling slapped his unruly mouth lightly.

“That’s not what I meant, you know that.” Xu Ling said, “I was just in a hurry. Next time, I’ll definitely hug you first.”

Ning Sheng: “Are you cursing me to fall into the water again?”

Xu Ling: “……”

“Damn it.” Xu Ling grabbed his hair with both hands, “You forced me to do this.”

Ning Sheng: “?”

He’s even swearing now. Then he should just scram.

If they couldn’t be friends, then so be it. If he broke up with his money tree, he’d just have to rely on himself.

But then again, he had watched the little devil king grow into a medium-sized devil king, fed him countless blueberries and carrots, and even taught him violin, French, and floral arrangements. It wasn’t so easy to just let go.

However just as he took two steps, someone suddenly pounced on him from behind, wrapping him in a tight hug.

Ning Sheng: “???”

“Let go of me.” He said in disbelief, “What are you doing?”

“You’re so stubborn that I can’t get through to you.” Xu Ling told him.

“You’re blaming me?” Ning Sheng asked. “Xu Dashan, you’re actually blaming me now?”

Xu Ling wrapped his arms around his legs, lifted him up, slung him over his shoulder, then started walking towards the higher stands on the side.

And Ning Sheng, suddenly lifted off the ground, was startled.

“Xu Ling, you mad dog!” He hit Xu Ling’s shoulders.

“It’s you who wanted to abandon me. Only a dog would go mad.” Xu Ling replied.

Ning Sheng: “……”

Xu Ling carried him back to the stands, then pressed him down onto a chair.

“Listen to me.” He started.

“I said that yesterday because I was angry.” He pressed Ning Sheng down, “I taught you how to walk, and how to run and jump. Don’t you know how I want you to be?”

Xu Ling: “Put your hands down and listen to me finish!”

Ning Sheng retracted his hands: “……”

Xu Ling rummaged through his backpack and pulled out a piece of sugar cake, two straw-woven butterflies, three wind-up toy frogs, and four caged crickets.

They were all ordinary things from the town, but were probably things Ning Sheng would cherish.

“These are all for you.” Xu Ling told him, “Take them.”

Ning Sheng: “……”

Ning Sheng: “I don’t want the crickets.”

“I told you he wouldn’t want those.” Xu Ling shouted at Lu Peng.

“What about this?” Xu Ling rummaged through his bag again and pulled out a fluffy little chick from a side pocket, waving it in front of Ning Sheng.

Ning Sheng: “Mmm…”

“Make up with me.” Xu Ling said, “And the chick is yours.”

“Childish.” Ning Sheng said, “Can’t I buy one myself?”

“This one is of good quality.” Xu Ling wiggled his index finger to push the chick closer.

The chick pecked at Ning Sheng’s finger with its soft yellow beak, chirping softly.

Ning Sheng found himself unable to stay angry.

Why was he even bickering with Xu Ling? Xu Ling, was after all only thirteen. How much could he expect him to say?

“You can raise many chicks, many piglets.” Xu Ling told him, “But you’ll only have one dog.”

Ning Sheng: “?”

“And your dog will be very rich in the future, richer than you.” Xu Ling continued, “So you won’t be at a loss raising me.”

“He was supposed to apologize, but is now actually bragging.” Lu Peng, who was sitting on the side said.

Li Haoyue added, “How many cows did he eat to become so arrogant? He actually dares to show off in front of the Princess.”

The little devil king in front of him had eyes that were burning with sincerity. Ning Sheng lowered his head, looking away.

“Let me think about it.” He said.

“Alright!” Xu Ling raised his hand and ruffled Ning Sheng’s hair.

Ning Sheng: “Get away from me, I’m still thinking!”

“Xu Ling!” One of their classmates rushed up to the stands, “Hurry up, the 4×100 relay final is about to start, our class is up!”

“Coming.” Xu Ling responded.

“Come watch me race.” Xu Ling dragged Ning Sheng along with him.

**

In the 4×100 meter relay final, Xu Ling was the last runner.

The thirteen year old teenager ran down the track with the wind catching at the edges of his clothes.

Xu Ling, with the athleticism honed from years of racing around the mountains, wasn’t just for show. In the final leg, he overtook two people, sprinting straight for the finish line, leaving the second place runner far behind.

However just then, a ball accidentally rolled onto the track, and a little kid, one of the staff’s children, chased after it without thinking.

The students watching around the track gasped in alarm.

Xu Ling, sprinting toward the finish line, noticed the child running out and immediately veered to the side, but, unable to slow down, he lost his balance and, even though he was still in first place, fell heavily onto the track.

Ning Sheng: “???”

The surrounding students rushed forward, but Xu Ling waved them off, unconcerned as he got up and made his way over to Ning Sheng.

“Ning Ning!” Xu Ling asked, “Have you made up your mind?”

“Idiot!” Ning Sheng said angrily, “Go to the infirmary!”

His legs and palms were scraped, yet he was still grinning as he held on to him.

Xu Ling hugged him happily: “See, you’re also scolding me.”

Ning Sheng froze for a moment.

“Don’t be mad anymore, okay?” Xu Ling said, “Go ahead and scold me more, I love hearing it.”
