Chapter 31.2

Editor: Jodi

Three to four days later, the sports meet of the Experimental Junior High School began.

Ning Sheng didn’t have any events to participate in, so he could only sit in the stands, snacking.

“No tomato flavor, I want the barbecue flavor.” The maths nerd said, reaching into Ning Sheng’s snack bag.

“Take them all.” Ning Sheng tossed the chips over. “Barbecue flavor isn’t good.”

“They’re tasty.” Li Haoyue ate a big handful. “They taste just like roast suckling pig.”

Ning Sheng: “?”

Ning Sheng: “What did you say they taste like?”

Li Haoyue: “Little… little meat porridge.”

“There’s something wrong with your taste buds, right?” Ning Sheng was bewildered.

“But it’s good to have you here.” He added. “Otherwise, I’d be really bored at this sports meet.”

Li Haoyue: “Uh….”

Then he took off his school uniform jacket, revealing the athlete’s number tag on his back.

Ning Sheng: “?”

Ning Sheng: “What event can you compete in?”

“I can do long jump… okay, I guess.” The math dummy said cautiously.

Ning Sheng: “Get lost then.”

Li Haoyue went off to compete, leaving Ning Sheng alone in the stands.

He sat for a while, feeling a bit bored.

His class was running the 4×100 relay. The first three legs were pretty mediocre, however the fourth leg was Xu Ling.

Xu Ling shot off as if his feet were greased, quickly catching up and taking the lead.

The corners of Ning Sheng’s lips curved into a smile, feeling proud.

This was his little devil king, the little devil king he had raised with handfuls of blueberries and grapes. The cub he had raised was first!

Their classmates swarmed Xu Ling, surrounding him. Some offered him water, others handed him towels, and a few even lifted him up and tossed him into the air.

Then the teammates from the 4×100 relay linked arms with him, seemingly discussing strategies for the next race.

Ning Sheng: “Sigh.”

At this moment, the person standing beside Xu Ling wasn’t him.

“Ning Sheng!” A cheerful voice called from the edge of the stands. “Want to join us?”

It was Fang Hua.

“Is there anything worth playing?” Ning Sheng asked from his seat in the stands.

“We’re going to the pond behind the school to catch shrimps.” Fang Hua told him. “Come check it out.”

Catching shrimps, this was something he knew how to do.

It just so happened that he was feeling bored, what’s more the three golden suns were busy, so he decided to take a stroll.

However the moment he arrived, he regretted it. The entire junior high seemed to be there, with more people than shrimp.

“You go play.” Ning Sheng said to Fang Hua in disappointment. “I’ll just stand here for a while.”

“I’ll get you some fishing gear.” Fang Hua said. “You’ve never done this before, right? It’s a lot of fun.”

Ning Sheng stood by the pond, watching the reeds.

The water was quite clear, and there were small fish swimming in it.

A few classmates from Fang Hua’s class were arguing noisily over a pack of spicy sticks, while kids from the village and the town were playing together, pushing and shoving all the way from the east bank to the west bank, and in the chaos, they bumped Ning Sheng into the pond.

Ning Sheng: “?”

He gurgled: “Blub blub.”

“Haha, karma comes around! Ey? Fuck, he doesn’t know how to swim?” The senior who was perched in a tree shouted, then he scrambled down quickly. “Are you guys stupid? He can’t swim!”

Fang Hua, who had been pushed aside, turned his head quickly.

However someone was faster than both of them. Xu Ling, who had been looking for Ning Sheng, ran straight towards the pond.

Ning Sheng couldn’t swim.

Before his rebirth, it was due to physical conditions. After rebirth, it was purely out of laziness.

The water in the pond didn’t look deep, but the mud at the bottom was soft, hence his foot slipped, and he floundered in the water, unable to stand.

And in the chaos, someone grabbed him around the waist and lifted him out of the water.

Xu Ling was half-hugging him, and the senior, the bully on the bank reached out and pulled him onto the shore.

The experience of falling into the water wasn’t pleasant at all, and under the school wall, Ning Sheng leaned against Xu Ling’s shoulder, coughing.

Xu Ling, soaked from head to toe, didn’t say a word. He just placed a hand on Ning Sheng’s back, rubbing it gently, helping him catch his breath.

The crowd dispersed, leaving only Xu Ling holding him, a guilt-ridden Fang Hua who wanted to bang his head against the wall, and the senior who was watching the commotion.

“I’ll go get a towel.” Fang Hua said and then ran off.

Ning Sheng finally managed to catch his breath, however the little devil king grabbed him by the hair, forcing him to look up.

“How many times have I told you?” Xu Ling started. “Don’t play with that group of kids. When they go wild, they can’t tell who is who.”

The tone wasn’t nice, and having his hair pulled wasn’t comfortable either. Ning Sheng’s temper flared before his brain kicked in.

“When did you ever say that?” He coughed. “You just watch me as if I’m a bone, never letting me talk to anyone!”

“If I had known you’d be this disobedient.” Xu Ling said, “Then you might as well not have learned to walk.”

Xu Ling added, “You’re more obedient when you’re in a wheelchair.”

Ning Sheng: “……”

Ning Sheng: “???”

Ning Sheng: “Xu Dashan!!! Are you even human?”

Ning Sheng: “You were the one who taught me to walk, and now you want me to sit in a wheelchair? What do you want from me!”

Xu Ling covered his face. “Hiss……”

The senior standing on the side sucked in a breath. “That slap was professional.”

Ning Sheng stood up, dripping water as he walked away.

“Hey.” The senior caught up, “Why are you in such a hurry? Rest a bit before you go.”

The senior continued, “Aren’t you supposed to collect my protection fee? Protect me, don’t keel over first.”

Ning Sheng: “Get lost!!!”

This was too much. How could the little devil king talk like that?

Xu Ling: “?”

Heading to his house? That meant it wasn’t too bad— Ning Sheng wasn’t too angry.

In his haste, he’d said some harsh things.

Ning Sheng had a bit of a temper, however he was still easy to coax.

His phone rang, and Xu Ling answered.

“Little Bell.” It was his mom. “Did you have a fight with Ning Ning?”

Xu Ling: “?”

His mom continued, “Ning Ning said he wants to take Qi Qi away. Pei Pei will stay with you, and he’ll cover the support costs.”
