Chapter 9.2

Editor: Jodi

Shi Tao restarted the music and danced from beginning to end. As the main dancer, his moves were excellent, but Mu Nan wasn’t in the mood to praise him.

He took his jacket off, tied it around his waist, asked Shi Tao to replay the music, then began dancing.

As Mu Nan made the first move, everyone realized he was repeating Shi Tao’s dance.

The room buzzed with whispers, “When did he learn it?” “I don’t know, it can’t be from him watching it once just now right?” “What kind of phenomenal memory is this?”

Mu Nan heard the murmurs but didn’t care as he continued to dance Shi Tao’s choreography. After watching it only once, he remembered most of it, and relying on his years of musical and dance intuition, he completed the entire routine flawlessly.

Then after a moment of silence, applause erupted, and then, under Mu Nan’s gaze, the members looked down in shame.

Mu Nan, having finished the dance, was no longer as angry. He looked at those who said they couldn’t learn, “Is this dance really that hard? If you can’t remember after one time, then try twice. If you still can’t, then five times. After practicing a hundred times, even if you’re a….. even if you’re stupid, you will remember.”

He swallowed the words “even if you’re a pig”.

The group members, scolded by him, didn’t dare slack off anymore and got up to practice.

And Mu Nan, not trusting them, deliberately watched for a while longer to make sure the training was on track before leaving the practice room.

However the moment he closed the door, he heard a sour complaint, “Just because he debuted a few years earlier, he thinks he’s somebody.”

Wilder also heard it and glanced inside but decided to let it go. He said, “You didn’t have to do that.”

Mu Nan shook his head, “I just can’t stand to see them waste their talent.”

He walked to the practice room next door, sat on a small stool, and said to Wilder, “I know today’s idols have no control over their schedules, but I didn’t expect their company to exploit them this badly.”

“Yeah.” Wilder agreed, “Nowadays, the contracts and team management rights belong to different companies. Some even have separate contracts for acting and commercial performances. Each company wants to squeeze every bit out of them, it’s the norm.”

Mu Nan looked a little disappointed, “They have the ability and talent, having gone through training and effort, but the power of capital is terrifying. It not only controls their bodies, it also controls their minds, making them what they are now.”

“Do you know why I insisted on performing in the finals?” Mu Nan asked.

Wilder thought for a moment: “I can guess, but I want to hear you say it.”

Mu Nan looked into Wilder’s eyes with determination, “I wanted to try, to see if I could transition. I wanted to know what would happen if I didn’t follow the fans’ expectations.”

He lowered his head, his courage seemingly exhausted, “I can’t be an idol forever.”

“So, are you satisfied with the result of this attempt?” Wilder asked.

Mu Nan was silent for a moment, then was about to speak when the door of the practice room was knocked on, then Shi Tao entered.

“Teacher Mu, am I interrupting?” Shi Tao asked cautiously.

Mu Nan waved him in, “The show is over, you don’t need to call me teacher.”

“No.” Shi Tao shook his head, “Once a teacher, always a… teacher?”

Mu Nan chuckled, “Do you need something?”

“Yes.” Shi Tao nodded, “I heard that you will be performing solo at the concert and won’t be with our group, is that right?”

Mu Nan didn’t answer directly, “So you want to perform with me?”

Shi Tao nodded enthusiastically, “Yes, I even have a program in mind.”

“Oh? What program? Tell me.”

Shi Tao looked a bit embarrassed but smiled shyly, eyes full of anticipation, “Teacher Mu, can I sing ‘Haze Attacks Gradually’ with you?”

Mu Nan was shocked, then glanced at Wilder, who was also obviously shocked.

Then just at that moment, an untimely voice echoed in Mu Nan’s mind:

“Be careful of Shi Tao.”
