Mu Nan was seriously considering whether to take the two furballs to get neutered when a text message suddenly came through.

It was a message from Bai Wenyan, saying he was about to return to the U.S. and that he wouldn’t be coming back anytime soon.

This really shocked Mu Nan. He looked at Cheng Han in disbelief. “How did you pull that off?”

Getting Bai Wenyan sent back to the U.S. meant Cheng Han hadn’t just defended himself but had also counterattacked, making Bai Wenyan suffer a major setback.

“Nothing much.” Cheng Han said casually. “He was just too arrogant.”

Mu Nan pressed further. “And that… uh, your investor or whatever, did you find them?”

Cheng Han raised an eyebrow at him, as if surprised that he even knew about such things.

“What? I’m not allowed to know about this?” Mu Nan shot back.

“Found them.” Cheng Han handed over a document. “This is a job offer you turned down. Your agent asked me to convince you to take it.”

“What’s this?” Mu Nan took it and started reading, completely unaware that Cheng Han had successfully changed the subject and distracted him from asking further questions.

However the moment he flipped to the first page, he tossed it back at Cheng Han.

“Not doing it, not doing it, not doing it.” He said with utter disdain. “This is a horror reality show. Are you trying to get me killed?”

Cheng Han flipped to the page listing the invited guests and showed it to him. “I’ll go with you.”

“Still not going.” Mu Nan said, every cell in his body rejecting the idea. “Do you think I have a death wish? I can’t even sleep for half a month after watching a horror movie. If I go on a horror reality show, I’ll cry on the spot!”

Cheng Han knew exactly how to hit his weak spot. “Your drama got canceled, and you turned down the music variety show. Are you planning to lie around at home for two months?”

Mu Nan: …Fine, you win.

“I… I’ll think about it.”

“Wait!” Seeing Cheng Han about to go upstairs, Mu Nan finally managed to stop him after missing the chance several times before.

“What is it?” Cheng Han asked.

Mu Nan looked visibly nervous. Clutching his shirt, he asked, “When Bai Wenyan was threatening you, why did you keep avoiding me?”

Cheng Han’s expression briefly showed confusion, as if he didn’t remember this happening.

“Oh, probably because I didn’t want you interfering.” He replied.

“Interfere with you?” Mu Nan thought back. It seemed like he had indeed been trying to push for a divorce, so maybe that did count as interference.

But then, realizing this, Mu Nan became even more confused. “Then why didn’t you ask for a divorce? You knew I’d agree, and it would’ve saved your IPO or whatever from being affected.”

Cheng Han was silent for a long time, as if pondering how to respond.

After a while, he stepped down and stood in front of Mu Nan.

There was only half a step between him and Mu Nan, but Mu Nan, engrossed in hearing his answer, forgot to move away.

Cheng Han lowered his head slightly, staring directly into Mu Nan’s eyes.

At this close distance, Mu Nan could see Cheng Han’s eyes clearly. They were a light brown, with a hint of mysterious gold under the sunlight.

But perhaps due to recent exhaustion, there were deep dark circles under his eyes. Oddly, they didn’t seem out of place and instead blended naturally with the shadows cast by his high brow bones.

“Wh… why?” Mu Nan swallowed nervously, not knowing why he suddenly felt tense.

Cheng Han spoke, “You are, indeed, not more important than my career.”

“That’s it?” Mu Nan thought to himself. Wasn’t that obvious? Cheng Han wasn’t more important than his career either.

However, Cheng Han took a breath and continued:

“But you’re not that unimportant either.”

“Get it? Little fool.”
