Chapter 18.2

Editor: Jodi

The next morning, Mu Nan followed his usual routine of checking Weibo.

And as expected, his performance with Cheng Han had once again made it to the hot search topics.

[What an absolutely stunning performance! Their voices harmonized so perfectly. The way they switched between the main melody and the secondary part so effortlessly was awesome. And when they sang the same part together, their voices blended so perfectly that I couldn’t tell them apart even if I tried.]

[It was so beautiful, so beautiful. So beautiful that I wouldn’t mind getting involved in some scandalous situation with these two! I’d even accept being in a toxic relationship!]

[This performance made it seem like Mu Nan and Cheng Han were lovers whose love turned to hate, while Zi Yue was….. just the narrator?]

Immediately after, Tang Zi Yue posted a picture on Weibo—a stage photo where she had photoshopped herself out—captioned, [This looks much more harmonious.]

The Top Stream CP fans were ecstatic, flooding the comments with questions about whether she shipped the same cp they did.

Mu Nan scrolled through the comments, and seeing Cheng Han’s name mentioned so many times made his eyes feel like they were about to fall out of his head.

Needing a break, he decided to watch a movie instead to clear his mind.

However just as he started the movie, his phone rang with a call from an unknown number.

Since this was his work phone, and many people had the number, he answered without thinking much about it.

But to his surprise, the voice on the other end was Bai Wenyan’s.

“Xiao Nan, I’m at the café in your neighborhood. Can you come out for a bit?”

“You’re in our neighborhood?!” Mu Nan nearly jumped up. “How do you know where I live? How did you even get in?”

“I have a friend who lives in the same neighborhood. I’m waiting for you here. I need to talk to you.”

Mu Nan had almost forgotten how successful Bai Wenyan had become over the years— so successful that it wasn’t surprising that he knew all kinds of people.

He hesitated for a moment, then decided it was best to clear things up face-to-face, so he got dressed and headed out.

The café in Mu Nan’s neighborhood was open only to its residents, so it wasn’t uncommon to see celebrities or businesspeople there.

Hence as Mu Nan walked in, no one looked surprised to see him.

Bai Wenyan was seated by the window, his hair combed neatly, and his shirt impeccably clean.

Compared to him, Mu Nan, in his loungewear and an overcoat, with his uncombed hair, looked as though he had just come back from picking up trash.

“Xiao Nan.” Bai Wenyan began before he could say anything, “what I said last night wasn’t just a momentary impulse. I’m serious. I made up my mind before I even returned to the country, so please, give me a chance.”

Mu Nan grabbed his messy hair, breaking down a little. “I’m already married. Married, do you understand? I’m not single anymore, what’s more being a third party is immoral!”

Bai Wenyan, however shook his head firmly. “It’s not like that. I can tell there’s no real love between you and Cheng Han.”

“And how would you know that?”

Bai Wenyan began to analyze the situation seriously. “First, your marriage happened very suddenly. There were no signs of a relationship before that. Second, right after the two of you got your marriage license, both your families started engaging in extensive business collaborations. That clearly shows that it’s a marriage of convenience. Third, and most importantly, neither of you wear wedding rings. Don’t tell me it’s because celebrities can’t wear rings—I’ve seen plenty of stars who wear their rings on necklaces. The fact that neither of you have your rings on means you both resent this marriage.”

Mu Nan was stunned by how much he had managed to piece together in just one night. And for a moment, he couldn’t hide his surprise, but then he composed himself, trying to figure out how to respond.

Suddenly, a cold voice, laced with a hint of anger, cut through the air behind him.

“First of all, the concept of a flash marriage must have eluded you during your time abroad, so I suppose that can be forgiven.”

Mu Nan whipped around to see Cheng Han striding into the café, his long legs closing the distance in swift succession.

Dressed in a black leather jacket, he yanked his sunglasses off, and the dangerous glint in his eyes made even Mu Nan feel a twinge of fear.

He stopped right beside Mu Nan, planting one hand on the table, looming over Bai Wenyan.

The latter recoiled instinctively, trying to escape the oppressive force Cheng Han exuded.

“Second.” Cheng Han continued, “Since you understand business, then you should know that once two families become in-laws, collaboration is natural. Or would you rather we compete against each other?”

“And as for the last point.” Cheng Han reached into his pocket and pulled out a ring box. Inside, two matching men’s rings lay quietly.

He took one ring out and took Mu Nan’s hand to put the ring on his finger.

“They were sent for maintenance last week, and I asked Ai Jia to pick them up the day before yesterday, but he forgot. I just got them back now.”

Then he took Mu Nan’s hand gently and slid the ring onto his finger with the utmost care, as if he was handling a rare treasure.

“Be good, don’t forget it this time.”
