Chapter 39.2

Editor: Princess

Meanwhile, Mu Nan actually pulled out a yellow Pikachu pajama set from his backpack and changed into it.

“What are you looking at?” He met Cheng Han’s teasing gaze with irritation. “Pikachu is adorable.”

Cheng Han laughed. “I wasn’t commenting on Pikachu, just surprised that you still have the mood to change into pajamas at a time like this.”

Mu Nan huffily turned over, bunching the blanket into a ball and hugging it. A person like Cheng Han didn’t deserve to share the blanket.

Behind him, Cheng Han showed a helpless smile and gently pulled out a bit of the blanket to drape over Mu Nan.

Mu Nan had thought he would lie awake all night, but the bed was quite comfortable, and since no one disturbed them, once he ignored the hot body of the man beside him, he actually slept quite soundly.

However, while sleeping, he felt as if someone was moving around in the room. Then he seemed to hear faint breathing near his ear.

The breathing was light and airy, with a bit of moisture. In his drowsy state, he thought it was Cheng Han, but then he suddenly realized that something was wrong. This breathing clearly belonged to a woman.

Instantly, all the blood in his body froze, his hands and feet becoming ice cold in an instant, cold sweat soaking his back.

He knew he shouldn’t open his eyes to look, but he couldn’t control the physiological urge to open his eyes.

Just as he was about to open his eyes, an arm swung over from behind him, and a man’s palm covered his eyes, leaving his vision completely dark.

The warmth from Cheng Han’s palm slightly relieved Mu Nan’s ice-cold body, however beyond that, Cheng Han made no other movements. He didn’t know whether Cheng Han was asleep or awake.

The moist breathing by his ear still existed. With his vision blocked, his imagination was infinitely magnified. Mu Nan kept visualizing what kind of thing was now crouched by his pillow.

Thinking of those disgusting monster images or terrifying ghosts, his body moved restlessly.

However, the hand covering his face applied slightly more pressure, and he sensed Cheng Han’s message telling him to feel safe.

After an unknown amount of time, the sound by his ear disappeared, and Cheng Han’s hand was also removed.

“It’s gone.” Cheng Han said.

Only then did Mu Nan realize that he had been holding his breath the entire time and had nearly suffocated himself. The cold sweat that had covered his body had now dried, sticking clammily to his skin, very uncomfortable.

“What was that… thing?” Mu Nan asked with lingering fear.

“Didn’t look, don’t know.” Unlike Mu Nan, Cheng Han’s expression showed no panic at all.

“Then how did it get in? Isn’t the door locked tight?”

Cheng Han raised his hand and pointed toward the ceiling. On the wall was a ventilation opening that didn’t match the environment. The opening’s edges had originally accumulated thick dust, but now the dust showed two fresh five-finger handprints.

“My god!” Looking at those handprints, Mu Nan received a second fright. The production team was clearly going all out to scare people.

Suddenly, he seemed to think of something, and his frightened expression froze on his face. “Wait, there seemed to be more than one requirement in what the butler said. He not only required us to go to bed but also required us to sleep!”

Cheng Han raised an eyebrow, having obviously thought of this already.

However, after Mu Nan said this, he felt something was off about these two phrases—why did they sound strange?

Meanwhile, Cheng Han’s expression remained completely unchanged, making Mu Nan feel like he was the impure one.

Just then, a woman’s scream came from the next room. And because the sound was so intense, they couldn’t tell whose voice it was.

“Not good!” Mu Nan slapped his thigh. “They must have stayed awake the whole time, or that thing woke them up!”

He was about to rush out the door, but then remembered that the door was locked from the outside, so he could only pace anxiously around the room.

“What should we do? Can we do anything?” Mu Nan asked.

Cheng Han lay back down as if nothing had happened. “No.”

“So we just wait here doing nothing?”

Cheng Han turned over. “If you don’t sleep, I need to sleep. When that thing comes back, I won’t be able to save you.”

Thinking of that unknown eerie thing, Mu Nan shivered with fright and obediently went to sleep.

He slept until dawn and actually fell asleep.

After getting up, he obediently changed out of his Pikachu pajamas, folded them neatly, and put them in his bag. Cheng Han watched him with a curved smile. Then the two went out together.

Du Ling and Cui Zhihang were already in the dining room, and their complexions didn’t look good. Therefore, when they saw the refreshed-looking Mu Nan, they asked in shock, “You two… didn’t you encounter that thing last night?”

Mu Nan paused. “We did encounter it, but didn’t see it. What was that thing?”

Du Ling shook her head. “I actually didn’t know that thing had come. I was awakened by the scream.”

“So, one of Ai Qian Qian and Duan Shi…”

Mu Nan was halfway through his sentence when the two girls walked out. They both had heavy dark circles under their eyes and looked like they hadn’t slept all night.

However, the other four people all felt a chill because at least one of these two people shouldn’t be “alive” walking out.

“You two… last night…” Cui Zhihang pulled his chair aside, moving farther away from them.

“What about us?” Duan Shi rubbed her sleepy eyes. “Did you hear a scream last night?”

“What did you say?!” Cui Zhihang shouted. “Wasn’t that you two screaming?”

Ai Qian Qian was startled. “Of course not! It wasn’t in our room. We were scared half to death when we heard it. However, it was a female voice, so it shouldn’t have been you…” She looked at Du Ling with a horrified expression.

“Of course it wasn’t me.” Du Ling pointed at Cui Zhihang. “If you don’t believe me, ask him. How could it have been me?”

Cui Zhihang nodded vigorously. “Yes, yes, yes, I can testify.”

Ai Qian Qian and Duan Shi looked at each other. “But it definitely wasn’t us two either.”

Mu Nan felt his back grow cold, and his voice trembled as he asked, “Did you two not sleep well last night?”

“Don’t even mention it.” Ai Qian Qian said irritably. “Who would dare sleep? Every time you closed your eyes, you felt like something was staring at you.”

Mu Nan and Cheng Han exchanged glances. It seemed the situation was more serious than they had thought.

Ai Qian Qian and Duan Shi were obviously covering for each other, which left only one possibility—

Both of them had already become ghosts.
