Chapter 7.2

Editor: Jodi

Mu Nan and Cheng Han had already changed into their costumes before the final showdown.

Cheng Han was wearing a black cloak with shimmering gold embroidery, and his hair, dyed a light blonde, was tied at the back. And with dark, gothic makeup and sharp European features, he looked like a Grim Reaper from hell.

Mu Nan was dressed in a short blue formal outfit, his brown hair curled. His clean, fair cheeks and bright, round eyes made him look like a little prince straight out of an oil painting.

“Ready?” The director asked. “Then get ready to go on stage.”

“Yeah.” “Okay.”

There was no exchange, no words of encouragement. It was as if they were going to duel rather than perform together.

“Don’t forget the moves.” Mu Nan didn’t forget to attack Cheng Han as he headed to the other side of the stage.

Cheng Han retorted without a trace of politeness, “Don’t mess up your voice.”

“Only an idiot would mess up, I never do!”

The stage lights went out, and then the accompaniment began. Then with a spotlight following him, Cheng Han stepped onto the stage.

He was holding a black cloth, which symbolized Rudolf’s shroud and heralded the arrival of death.

His eerie makeup and the dim blue light blended perfectly, and as he looked down, he stared into the live camera with a piercing gaze that reached every viewer’s heart.

Everyone watching the live broadcast was drawn into the Grim Reaper’s world, feeling as if they were no longer on earth but in hell.

Then in this eerie atmosphere, he began to sing in German: “We finally break the silence, we finally communicate with each other…”

He used a voice that was different from his usual one, one that was slightly distorted but filled with madness.

The live audience went wild: [This this this…. what language is this?]

[It’s German! Cheng Han can actually speak German?]

[This voice, I’m done for!]

After a few lines, Mu Nan rushed onto the stage from the other side.

His movements were frantic, as if he were avoiding something or expecting something.

Then he began to sing in equally perfect German: “I have never forgotten you, my friend whom I call upon…”

Mu Nan had also designed a different voice for the song. He usually had a youthful voice, but now it was even clearer, like a ray of light piercing through the Grim Reaper’s gloom.

He searched and searched, and then he saw the Grim Reaper. Then like grabbing a lifeline, he rushed towards the Grim Reaper but was thrown onto the carriage behind.

Rudolf looked at the Grim Reaper in disbelief. “When fear devours me…”

The Grim Reaper grabbed Rudolf’s thin neck, lifting him up, veins bulging, his fierce face fully exposed. “I came because you needed me!”

In the chorus, both switched to their native language, and it added a layer of emotional impact, elevating the intensity.

Although there were only two of them, they split into different vocal parts. Mu Nan sang the higher part, while Cheng Han sang the lower part.

The two voices intertwined harmoniously: “The haze always lasts longer, the people turn a blind eye, a deaf ear. The song becomes cold and piercing, the devil’s shackles tighten.”

Emotions escalated with each layer, and they danced the choreographed steps.

Sometimes the Grim Reaper was behind Rudolf, as if he were manipulating a marionette, and sometimes Rudolf tried to escape the Grim Reaper’s control, only to be irresistibly drawn back.

Then for the final chorus, they raised the key another notch.

The Grim Reaper and Rudolf seemed to be fighting, yet hugging; struggling, yet enjoying.

“The devil’s shackles tighten, you must resist the calamity, the haze always lasts longer, and the era of Emperor Rudolf is coming!”

In the final move, the Grim Reaper pulled Rudolf’s hair roughly, forcing him into submission. Mu Nan’s hands reached for the sky, like a martyr in death.

They stared at each other, their eyes filled with a thousand emotions.

It was excitement, fear, expectation, and regret.

The Grim Reaper’s grip tightened, and Rudolf’s fist clenched.

Then as the last note fell, the Grim Reaper’s hand pressed against Rudolf’s neck, then he lowered his head, delivering a fierce bite to Rudolf’s lower lip.

Rudolf’s clenched fists fell limp, then dropped.

He was dead, taken by the Grim Reaper’s kiss.
