Chapter 6.2

Editor: Jodi

Yang Yuzhu’s performance, although with some discrepancies, still showcased his basic skills, so overall, it shouldn’t have received a “C” grade.

However Cheng Han turned a blind eye to the whispers on and off the stage and simply said, “His adaptability on stage is too poor.”

Yang Yuzhu’s face instantly turned pale as he stuttered, unable to speak for a while.

And Mu Nan, unable to continue watching, grabbed the microphone and said, “I don’t think it’s like that.” Then he raised an “A” grade sign.

“The reason why a stage is a stage is because it’s imperfect and fleeting. A stage without any mistakes is called a recording studio, it’s called a music video. I believe, overall, his ability is worthy of this grade A.”

Cheng Han countered calmly, “Does the attribution of Olympic medals depend on usual training results?”

“But even considering just the first half, it still shouldn’t be a C.”

Seeing that the two were about to argue again, the female mentor quickly intervened, holding up a card with a B on it. “Both teachers make valid points, but we still have several groups to go, so let’s move on for now.”

As soon as she finished speaking, Yang Yuzhu, as if granted amnesty, stumbled off the stage in a daze.

And watching him like this, Mu Nan couldn’t help but feel some resentment towards Cheng Han.

For Yang Yuzhu, Cheng Han was his patron.

Therefore, Cheng Han’s disappointment would make him feel even worse.

Mu Nan didn’t stay feeling uncomfortable for long because Shi Tao appeared in the next group.

Shi Tao was still the same lively and adorable boy and his performance was well done. Mu Nan gave him an A with satisfaction.

However Cheng Han raised a B, saying, “Last time I mentioned your breathing issue, but your singing skills haven’t improved at all since then, so I’m sorry, I can’t give you an A.”

Mu Nan really didn’t understand what Cheng Han was thinking. Everyone knew that the essence of this kind of program was just a show, so although the program team might not control everything, there was still a general script to follow.

So Cheng Han’s approach would only make him seem excessively strict, and even make it look like he was deliberately picking faults, which could easily lead to criticism after the program aired.

**

After all the recordings were done, Mu Nan wasn’t in that much of a mood to do anything else because of the two contestants’ affairs, so he just followed the program team’s arrangement to visit the contestants in their dormitories.

Some were happy and some were sad in their dormitories, the eliminated contestants packing up their things, the air filled with sadness.

“Teacher Mu.” It was still Shi Tao who greeted him first, “I disappointed you today.”

Mu Nan froze, “I’m not disappointed, your performance today was good. As for Cheng Han…”

He wanted to say, “Just ignore him”, but when the words came to his lips, it turned into- “He’s just too strict, that’s all.”

Shi Tao nodded, indicating that he understood. But Mu Nan suddenly asked, “Where is Yuzhu?”

The contestants looked at each other. None of them knew where Yang Yuzhu had gone.

Mu Nan was a bit worried, so after giving a few instructions, he headed out. He walked along the corridor in the direction of the bathroom, and sure enough, he saw Yang Yuzhu crouching in a corner.

Mu Nan signaled for the cameraman not to follow, then walked over himself. “What are you doing here?”

Yang Yuzhu hadn’t expected anyone to come. He stood up nervously, wiping away the tears on his face. “It’s nothing.”

Mu Nan sighed lightly, then crouched down as well, facing him. “Cheng Han is not disappointed in you.”

“Huh?” Yang Yuzhu was stunned. “But…”

“There’s no but.” Mu Nan said. “That’s just how he is. You don’t know him well, but I do. He’s been a proud child since he was young, and he’s used to getting what he wants. So for him, confidence and bravery are innate. But you’re not like that.”

Yang Yuzhu looked at Mu Nan blankly, with tears still shimmering in his eyes.

Mu Nan continued, “I understand how you feel, but I still have to say this. Making a mistake isn’t the end of the world. Mistakes are just the most insignificant details among the countless performances you’ll have in the future. Your efforts will not be in vain.”

“So it’s okay to be sad, to be disappointed, or even to cry, it’s all okay, but don’t give up.”

Yang Yuzhu didn’t say anything, seeming to be lost in thought. Mu Nan patted his shoulder and stood up. “Keep going, your future is boundless.”

Mu Nan gave Yang Yuzhu some space and turned the corner. He thought he would meet the cameraman and his agent waiting there, but they were nowhere to be seen. There was only one person there—Cheng Han.

“You heard everything?” Mu Nan frowned as he asked.

“En.” Cheng Han coughed lightly twice, “Your approach is useless.” He said, “He’s already heard enough encouragements and comforts, so one more from you won’t make a difference.”

Mu Nan sneered, “So your method works? Do you think stimulating him can make him grow quickly?”

Cheng Han didn’t say anything, but the expression on his face clearly said, “Isn’t that the case?”

“No, you don’t understand.” Mu Nan shook his head, “Everyone has a different threshold for pressure. He’s already under enough pressure from performing itself, so he can only accept limited additional stimulation. Criticizing him like this can easily make someone collapse.”

Cheng Han: “If he can’t even handle this little pressure, then he might as well quit early. There are countless people coming in and out of this circle every day. It’s not easy to make it here.”

“But not everyone is you.” Mu Nan interjected.

“Cheng Han, not everyone is like you. I don’t know why you gave up studying at Harvard Law School to debut in C Country, let alone why you plunged into this industry knowing how difficult it is.”

“I admit you’ve succeeded, but you have to understand, that not everyone is as lucky as you. Many people spend their whole lives without tasting the sweetness of success. Using your own standards to demand things from them, don’t you think it’s too cruel?”

After saying this, Mu Nan didn’t want to hear Cheng Han’s response, so he left directly.

While Cheng Han watched him leave quietly, then he sighed lightly after a long time. The end of his breath curled up then fell to the ground, like a plum pit that had lost its flavor.

“You’re the one who doesn’t know anything.”
