Chapter 42
Editor: Princess
“Let me out! Is anyone there? I’m still alive!” Mu Nan desperately pounded against the coffin lid, but no one heard his shouts, and the rhythmic sound of hammering nails continued steadily.
Mu Nan lay inside the coffin, facing complete darkness, yet he could even visualize what was happening outside.
A group of people held long coffin nails and hammered the coffin lid shut, trapping him inside with no escape, causing him to gradually suffocate in the oxygen-depleted environment.
He would desperately claw at the coffin boards until his fingernails were torn and bloody, leaving two deep crimson streaks beneath the coffin lid.
Just imagining this scenario terrified him to death, and he struck the coffin lid forcefully.
“Let me out, I’m afraid of the dark! Please! Please let me out!”
Still no one responded, causing him to weep until tears covered his entire face. His throat was nearly raw from shouting, “Cheng Han! Cheng Han, where are you? You said you would come for me!”
He gradually began to feel suffocated, as the air inside the coffin depleted quickly due to his loud shouting, and he desperately told himself to stay calm, however he couldn’t calm down no matter what.
“Liar!” He shouted Cheng Han’s name, “You’re just a big liar, you said you would come for me, where did you go?”
Mu Nan’s crying and shouting gradually quieted, and although his last trace of rationality told him this was just filming a show and that the production team wouldn’t let anything truly happen to him, he still couldn’t control his feeling of despair.
It seemed as if he would be completely trapped here to die, and in such a suffocating manner at that.
Just when he felt his consciousness beginning to fade, the coffin lid was pushed open with a bang, and the dim light from the attic streamed in.
However, this light was still too harsh for him, and just as he was about to close his eyes, a broad palm had already shielded his eyes from above.
This was Cheng Han’s hand. Mu Nan didn’t know how he could tell, he just knew.
No one else had fingers this slender, no one else had hands with such distinct knuckles yet so clean.
—Cheng Han had come to rescue him.
At this thought, he sat up abruptly from the coffin and threw himself disheveled onto the nearest person.
Actually, he didn’t see the person’s face clearly, but he just knew it was Cheng Han.
Cheng Han hadn’t expected Mu Nan’s movement to be so sudden, do he didn’t react in time, causing him to stagger backward a step.
However, at this moment Mu Nan’s entire weight was already on him, and when he stepped back, it caused Mu Nan’s lower body to be dragged out of the coffin forcefully, with his calves hitting hard against the coffin’s edge.
“Careful, careful!” The surrounding staff members shouted in unison, but Mu Nan seemed not to hear them.
He hung his arms around Cheng Han’s neck, completely disregarding his own adult weight and not caring whether Cheng Han could bear it. He just hung there like this, wiping his face full of tears and snot onto Cheng Han’s clothes.
“You liar.” He wiped while scolding, “You were just lying to me, you said you’d come for me, why did you take so long to come.”
He sobbed unreasonably, his muffled voice trembling with a crying tone: “You’re so bad, you said you’d come for me, then you didn’t come, so why did you promise me, you were just lying to me, you’re not a good person.”
Mu Nan’s accusations lacked any logic, but Cheng Han responded to every sentence he said.
“I’m bad, I’m not a good person, I came too late, I was wrong.”
He lifted Mu Nan by the waist, pulling him completely out of the coffin, then carried him like holding a child, letting him hang on his body and cry.
“I was wrong, it’s my fault, I came too late.”
Mu Nan buried his face in Cheng Han’s chest, unable to see Cheng Han’s expression. However, the others could clearly see how Cheng Han looked.
Cheng Han’s expression was extremely pained, the painful feeling even made his features appear contorted, but this wasn’t physical pain, rather it was heartache, the kind of inescapable struggle of being entangled by regret and guilt.
Mu Nan, being held in this position, soon began to feel embarrassed as well. He had cried enough and his emotions had stabilized, so he got down from Cheng Han and even took two steps away from him in an attempt to cover up his embarrassment.
“Come look.” Cheng Han beckoned to him, and Mu Nan followed him over.
Cheng Han pointed to the surface of the coffin lid: “Look, there are no nails, the production team created the sound effects. There’s also a gap here at the bottom that allows air to circulate.”
Mu Nan lowered his head for a quick glance, then said listlessly “oh”.
He had really embarrassed himself greatly just now. The coffin lid could slide open to the side with just a little force, and no one had actually nailed the coffin shut, plus he wouldn’t have suffocated at all.
However, he had simply fallen into fear and panic, completely unable to think or try anything.
Yet Cheng Han didn’t mock him, but instead reached out his hand to tidy up his disheveled hair slightly: “Now that you know, you won’t be afraid anymore, right?”
Mu Nan nodded. After coming out, that desperate pain of being unable to breathe didn’t feel real, as if it had happened in a dream. He didn’t know how he had been so overwhelmed just then.
However, Cheng Han wasn’t reassured about him, and instead stood in front of him, placing both hands on his shoulders, staring at him seriously as he said once more: “I came too late, I’m very sorry, this kind of thing will absolutely never happen again.”
Seeing his serious expression, Mu Nan instead felt embarrassed.
“I’m not really blaming you.” Mu Nan said, “I was just scared and talking nonsense, I’m not angry with you.”
As he spoke, he also said to the camera with feigned lightness: “Cheng Han’s fans who see this, please don’t scold me, I really didn’t mean to say anything about your brother Han.”
However, Cheng Han acted contrary to his usual behavior, and his hands gripping Mu Nan’s shoulders applied more pressure, turning Mu Nan back to face him.
“You did nothing wrong.” His expression was extremely serious, “you should be angry with me, you should scold me and ignore me.”
“It’s not as exaggerated as you’re making it out to be.” With Cheng Han saying this, it was instead Mu Nan who became awkward, “I wouldn’t think that way at all.”
Cheng Han seemed to want to say something more, but seeing Mu Nan’s attitude, he only sighed and didn’t continue.
After filming ended, the show’s executive producer found Mu Nan and sincerely apologized to him, also bringing many gifts.
He said that this time the production team had gone too far and shouldn’t have played this kind of joke, and he felt sorry for the harm it had caused him.
After the most frightening moment had passed, Mu Nan actually felt it wasn’t a big deal, and he told the director this as well. The director was visibly relieved.
Mu Nan could understand the director’s feelings. His millions of fans were very combative, and if he revealed even the slightest dissatisfaction with the show, his fans would tear the production team apart. If problems arose with the show then, everyone would suffer without benefit.
Thinking of this, he also expressed his position to the director, saying that the collaboration had been very pleasant, and that he hoped for opportunities to collaborate again in the future.
After the director received a satisfactory reply, he left, and Mu Nan also began packing his things to prepare for departure.
After filming two consecutive episodes, he was already exhausted to the point of near collapse and only wanted to fly home right now, lie on his soft latex mattress, wrap himself in a light air-conditioning quilt, and sleep beautifully for an entire day.
Wilder had already told him in advance that he was giving him a full week off to let him rest thoroughly.
Thinking of the wonderful vacation life ahead, he felt he could go on again, and even packing became motivating.
He hummed while stuffing clothes into his suitcase.
Mu Nan was always like this.
When departing, his luggage would be organized neatly and orderly, but on the return trip he would just stuff things randomly.
Sometimes when the suitcase was so stuffed it wouldn’t close, he would simply sit on the suitcase and use his weight to force it shut.
He was happily enjoying the pleasure of rough packing when he heard the doorbell ring. It should be Xiao Jin returning with food.
He had said he wanted to eat crayfish before leaving, so Xiao Jin had run out to buy some.
However, before opening the door, he remembered the previous incident and looked outside through the peephole, then he began to suspect whether Cheng Han had some special ability.
How was it that every time he shouldn’t appear, he would appear without fail?
“Why are you here?” He opened the door to let him in.
Cheng Han carried a bag of crayfish in each hand: “I ran into Xiao Jin and brought these over for him.”
Mu Nan rolled his eyes. He couldn’t even find a better excuse, always using the same one. Xiao Jin probably had psychological trauma by now.
“If you want to mooch a meal, just say so directly.” Mu Nan complained.
Cheng Han set the crayfish down, four boxes in total, and opened them one by one: “I do want to mooch a meal, the food here is too good.”
Spicy, garlic, thirteen-spice, and steamed. They had bought one box of each of the four flavors, definitely too much for two people to finish.
“Let’s call the team to eat together.” Mu Nan suggested.
“Them? They’re eating even more heartily than you.” Cheng Han said, “They’re eating at a whole table in the restaurant.”
Mu Nan opened the work group chat and indeed, everyone was having a gathering, with crayfish covering an entire table. He was immediately speechless. Artists really had no rights.
He and Cheng Han each began focusing on eating crayfish, and unexpectedly, their combined fighting power was amazing, actually finishing all four portions between the two of them.
Near the end of the meal, Mu Nan seemed to hear Cheng Han say something.
“Huh?” He hadn’t heard clearly.
Cheng Han repeated: “Would you like to come with me?”
“What?” Mu Nan froze with a shrimp tail in his mouth. He hadn’t expected Cheng Han to confess just like this, without giving him any chance to prepare, without even any buildup.
Instantly dumbfounded, he said incoherently: “Then… then let me think about it?”
Cheng Han glanced at the time: “Don’t think too long.”
Mu Nan: “Huh? How can you be like this? This concerns the happiness of the rest of my life, and you won’t let me consider it more?”
This time it was Cheng Han who froze: “What are you saying? What happiness?”
The two looked at each other, and Cheng Han understood: “Did you not hear the first half of what I said?”
“Ah.”
Cheng Han repeated helplessly: “I’m flying to Hong Kong this afternoon, do you want to come with me?”
“What are you going to Hong Kong for?” Mu Nan preferred to go home and lie down.
“To ring the bell.” Cheng Han said, “My company is going public on Monday. I’m inviting you to ring the bell with me, are you willing to go?”
Several hours later, the bewildered Mu Nan boarded a flight to Hong Kong.
