Chapter 38.1

Editor: Princess

“Um…” Mu Nan’s fingers twisted together restlessly. “I’m sorry.”

Duan Shi shook her head while sobbing. “No.”

“Huh?” Mu Nan’s eyes widened in surprise.

Duan Shi wiped away her tears while speaking between hiccups. “You haven’t wronged me. I never asked you about it.”

This was the first time Mu Nan had received a serious confession from a girl face to face. This differed completely from high school when young girls experienced their first romantic stirrings, when everyone would exchange love letters and blush while saying “I like you.”

Now he could sense that Duan Shi’s feelings for him represented a woman’s attraction to a man.

“Don’t say that.” Mu Nan scratched his head. “The more you say that, the more ashamed I feel.”

Previously, he had only thought Duan Shi was a good person with a nice personality and an excellent colleague. However, he had never imagined that she harbored such feelings for him.

After crying for a while, Duan Shi gradually composed herself. She felt somewhat embarrassed and wiped the tear stains from her face. “Sorry, I just now…”

Just then, Mu Nan’s phone suddenly rang. He initially intended to decline the call, but then he saw that the caller was Cheng Han.

Should he answer or not?

He hesitated while glancing at Duan Shi, but Duan Shi seemed to see through everything. She smiled and said, “Go ahead and answer it.”

“Sorry.” Mu Nan answered the phone and lowered his voice. “I’m dealing with something right now. I’ll call you back later.”

“Where are you now?” Cheng Han asked.

“I’m out having dinner.” Mu Nan replied.

Mu Nan assumed that after this response, Cheng Han would hang up, but unexpectedly, Cheng Han pressed further. “Who are you having dinner with?”

“With Duan Shi.”

Mu Nan glanced at Duan Shi, and that strange feeling of being caught cheating returned.

“You two are trending on social media.” Cheng Han said.

“What?” Mu Nan shouted in shock. “We were photographed?”

Hearing this, Duan Shi also turned pale with fright. “How is that possible? This restaurant’s main selling point is good privacy!”

“When were we photographed? What photos did they get? What are people saying?”

Mu Nan fired off a series of questions, but the other end remained silent for a long time.

Meanwhile, Duan Shi had already opened Weibo to check the trending topics. After looking around, she mouthed to Mu Nan, “No, there’s no trending topic.”

Mu Nan became furious. “You lied to me!”

“Oh, I saw wrong.” A flat voice came from the other end, without a trace of apology. However hearing this made Mu Nan’s teeth itch with anger.

Actually, he had first been frightened by him, then angered by him. His brow furrowed tightly. “Is it interesting to trick me with something like this?”

“Not interesting.” Cheng Han’s tone remained cold.

Mu Nan’s anger immediately flared up. “Then what exactly do you mean? If you have any opinions, just say them directly. There’s no need to use something like this to trick me.”

“If you haven’t done anything wrong, why are you afraid of being tricked?”

“This kind of joke isn’t funny at all!” Mu Nan threw down these words and then angrily hung up the phone.

Duan Shi looked at him with some concern. “What’s wrong? Is that your agent?”

Mu Nan shook his head. “An idiot.”

Duan Shi vaguely understood something and didn’t ask further questions. Neither of them had the appetite to continue eating, so they soon parted ways.

“Han Ge, what’s wrong?” Ai Jia was arranging clothes from the new season’s brand deliveries in the walk-in closet when he noticed Cheng Han’s displeased expression and asked casually.

“Nothing.” Cheng Han tossed his phone aside and rubbed his swollen eyes.

He didn’t know what was wrong with himself either. It seemed as if the words he spoke weren’t under his brain’s control. He had actually lied to Mu Nan and been caught red-handed.

Most importantly, Mu Nan was angry with him because of this.

However Mu Nan’s anger was completely understandable, because this joke wasn’t funny at all, and today wasn’t April Fool’s Day either.

However, when he heard him say he was having dinner with Duan Shi, in that instant, his emotions seemed to lose control. An uncontrollable impulse surged forth like a volcanic eruption.

He could even imagine what they looked like while eating dinner.

Mu Nan would chew his food in small bites, chewing many times before swallowing, cute like a rodent.

Meanwhile, Duan Shi was a beautiful and gentle girl. She would smile while watching Mu Nan and occasionally tell him some interesting stories.

Mu Nan was a gentleman, so he would definitely laugh along and then tell some even more interesting stories.

These scenes uncontrollably surfaced in his mind, and whenever he thought about them, his emotions would surge.

It was only after he lost control and said those words that he realized what a huge mistake he had made.

However, Mu Nan’s subsequent response made him even more irritated.

Mu Nan had been very shocked, very anxious, and somewhat worried. What was he afraid of? Was he afraid that his relationship with Duan Shi would be misunderstood? Was he afraid of being involved in gossip? Was he afraid that Duan Shi would be scolded by his fans?

Or was he simply afraid that a relationship that couldn’t be discovered would be made public?

When this last thought occurred, Cheng Han’s heart tightened severely. However, he immediately pushed this thought away.

Mu Nan wasn’t that kind of person. He was very honest and very trustworthy. He had once rejected Bai Wenyan firmly, so naturally he would maintain his rationality this time as well.

But would he really?

Duan Shi was different from Bai Wenyan. Duan Shi was a sweet and lovely girl. She had no malicious intentions, was very talented, and shared common ground with him.

A loud “crash” brought Cheng Han out of his chaotic thoughts.

Ai Jia poked his head in nervously. “Han Ge, sorry, I accidentally broke a vase.”

Cheng Han pinched his brow. “Thank you.”

“Huh?” Ai Jia was confused. How could doing something wrong earn thanks?

However, only Cheng Han knew that he was thanking Ai Jia for making him stop continuing to worry.

This time Mu Nan was really angry—angry at Cheng Han’s inappropriate joke, but even more angry at his distrust of him.

And his way of expressing anger was moving house.

His way of expressing extreme anger was moving house with the cats.

Therefore, when Cheng Han returned home to see that only he was the sole breathing thing in the empty house, he was completely stunned.

Empty nest elderly person, left-behind child, abandoned by husband and children.

Various tragic descriptions seemed to rain down on him without cost.

However, he didn’t know how to explain things to Mu Nan, so he could only hope that he would gradually calm down.

This dragged on until the third recording session.
