Editor: Princess
While answering a question at the next checkpoint, Mu Nan suddenly remembered, “I forgot my GoPro!”
But the director signaled that it was alright, and that someone would go back to find it. Only then did Mu Nan relax. After all, a GoPro wasn’t cheap, and he would feel terrible if the production team lost it because of him.
However, following the earlier incident, he as somewhat distracted. Meanwhile, Cui Zhixing said to him tactlessly, “What do you call this? Coming out of the closet?”
Mu Nan wished he could kick him two miles away.
He realized now that Cui Zhixing wasn’t really malicious. He simply lacked intelligence.
In the previous episode, he had snatched a talisman from a young girl just to win, then faced a week of online criticism. This time, if Mu Nan didn’t consider himself level-headed, he would have held a grudge against him merely for this comment.
As for Ai Qian Qian, Mu Nan still couldn’t figure her out. She seemed bewitched. She was clearly a female celebrity who typically maintained an innocent image, yet she had suddenly abandoned all pretense of her public persona.
This checkpoint featured literature questions, and Mu Nan hesitated on the third question, reluctant to make a selection.
Just then, two announcements came through the broadcast system: first, the history checkpoint that Mu Nan had partially completed was now solved. Second, Cui Zhixing was injured again and captured, thus initiating the rescue countdown.
Currently, four players were left: besides the non-contributing Ai Qian Qian, there were only him, Cheng Han, and Duan Shi.
Mu Nan took three seconds to weigh the pros and cons of rescuing Cui Zhixing, then decided to continue answering questions in the end. Saving Duan Shi earlier had already been fortunate enough, they couldn’t risk another rescue attempt.
However he answered the third question incorrectly, causing there to be a sudden explosion sound, but instead of running, he listened for a moment quietly, then confirmed that the butcher wasn’t pursuing him.
He wondered whether meeting such a determined “corpse-guarding” butcher was beneficial or not.
Gritting his teeth, he completed the remaining questions. And although he was uncertain about some answers, he randomly selected options since they were all multiple-choice questions, which finally helped him solve this checkpoint.
They had now unlocked four checkpoints, which meant there was only one more left before they could open the main gate.
And this precious time had been indirectly secured by Cui Zhixing. Mu Nan didn’t waste a second and ran straight to the next checkpoint.
However halfway there, he met Duan Shi, who looked distressed and was nearly in tears.
“Mu Nan, Cheng Han is still being chased. The butcher refuses to let him go.” She said anxiously.
Mu Nan understood why. Cheng Han had eluded the butcher multiple times. If he were the butcher, he would pursue him relentlessly too.
“He’s suffering because of me.” Duan Shi muttered, looking helpless. “What should we do now?”
“He’s buying us time.” Mu Nan stated. “Come on, let’s answer the questions.”
Seeing his determined expression, Duan Shi nodded, “Alright!”
There were two checkpoints left, but they only needed to solve one. Just as Mu Nan and Duan Shi found the nearest checkpoint and were about to begin, a broadcast announcement came through.
“Cheng Han is injured.”
“Ah! What should we do?!” Duan Shi shouted.
Mu Nan gritted his teeth. “Let’s answer the questions quickly, then open the door.”
Unfortunately, this checkpoint contained physics questions. Asking celebrities to answer physics questions— only the production team could devise such a challenge.
Mu Nan and Duan Shi stared at each other in bewilderment, unable to understand even the question stems.
“If only Cheng Han were here.” Mu Nan sighed softly. Such simple physics questions would definitely not challenge the academic genius.
Fortunately, their luck wasn’t terrible, because between guessing and blind selection, they somehow managed to complete the questions.
“Let’s open the door!” Mu Nan didn’t want to waste a second. This time was what Cheng Han had secured for them.
The main gate was just ahead, with one final code to unlock, but victory was merely one step away.
Just at that moment, news of Cheng Han’s capture came through. Mu Nan froze immediately.
“Mu Nan?” Duan Shi waved her hand in front of his face, finally bringing him back from his daze.
“You should go. I’m going back to save him.”
Duan Shi was stunned, then she grabbed his arm. “Are you crazy? Without anyone’s cooperation, you can’t possibly rescue him!”
“I know.” Mu Nan nodded, yet he continued walking back.
“Mu Nan, be rational!” Duan Shi held onto him tightly. “Going back now is suicide! Not only will you fail to save him, but you’ll also sacrifice yourself.”
“I know.” Mu Nan nodded again.
However, this time he looked at Duan Shi seriously and said, “I can’t just leave him alone.”
Then, smiling at Duan Shi, he added, “You should go.” Then he disappeared into the thick bushes, vanishing from sight.
Mu Nan was traveling a path against the flow, as many crew members were walking outward. This also made him realize that of the most filming points had concluded shooting.
This actually made finding Cheng Han easier. He just needed to head toward where there were more people.
Carefully, he approached the vicinity where Cheng Han was captured.
The area was spacious, with Cheng Han tied to a chair. And his eyes were closed, as if asleep.
Mu Nan understood he was exhausted. After distracting the butcher for so long just to let them escape, he had to be extremely tired.
Surprisingly, Ai Qian Qian was tied beside Cheng Han. Due to limited visibility earlier, Mu Nan hadn’t noticed her.
But now, suddenly looking up, he met her gaze. Evidently, she saw him too. Mu Nan placed his finger on his lips, signaling for her to remain silent.
Ai Qian Qian’s lips quivered slightly, then she ultimately said nothing.
Mu Nan sighed with relief, then slowly crept toward Cheng Han while the butcher’s vigilance was diminished.
