Chapter 16.2

By the time Mu Nan got home after a day of filming, it was already nighttime.
Opening the pet carrier, he let Xiao Bai and Xiao Hui out, “Go and play.”
Xiao Bai immediately bolted into the living room, moving so fast it was like a flash of lightning, leaving only a blur on the sofa as it passed.
Mu Nan hummed a tune as he walked into the living room, only to suddenly find himself in a staring contest with Cheng Han.
“What are you…” Mu Nan looked at the camera and computer set up on the coffee table, stunned for a moment before realizing, “Are you live streaming?”
Cheng Han nodded.
However when Mu Nan took a closer look, he noticed that the camera wasn’t connected to the computer, as if it had been yanked out forcefully.
And the screen of the computer was showing a live stream interface, with a barrage of pop-up comments scrolling by—half asking, [Why did the stream suddenly cut off?] and the other half asking, [What was that white object that just flew by?]
Mu Nan facepalmed silently.
The culprit was crouched in the corner, munching on rabbit food happily, completely oblivious to the trouble it had caused.
“It’s gone off?” Mu Nan mouthed.
Cheng Han nodded again.
“Did it… appear on camera?” Mu Nan asked sheepishly, pointing at Xiao Bai.
Cheng Han nodded again as if he was a nodding machine with no emotions.
Mu Nan grabbed his hair, at a loss as to what to do. He could already imagine the hot search topics: #ChengHanLateNightLivestreamMuNan’sRabbitsMakeAppearance #MuNanAndChengHanLivingTogether #MuNanAndChengHanSecretlyMarriedForYears.
“Why did you suddenly start live streaming without giving me a heads-up?” He asked in despair.
“I told you yesterday.” Cheng Han replied.
“When did you…” Wait a minute, Mu Nan suddenly remembered. It seems Cheng Han had indeed mentioned it, and at that time, he had said, “I need to use the living room tomorrow night, probably for about three hours.”
Although they were officially living together, they were actually more distant than roommates, each eating separately and avoiding being in the same space whenever possible, so Cheng Han’s words had been a subtle way of telling Mu Nan to stay out of the living room for those three hours.
“So what do we do now?” Mu Nan asked.
Cheng Han shook his head. He glanced at the now-black live stream window— although the streamer was gone, the pop-ups showed no signs of slowing down.
However something seemed off about the pop-ups…
[Cheng Ge, don’t scare me! Come back and say something, or at least post on Weibo.]
[Waaah, come back, I’m freaking out. What happened? Is your manager or assistant there with you?]
[Is his studio watching the stream? Go find him! Otherwise if he doesn’t come back, I’m going to call the police.]
Some fans who had joined later were confused about what had happened: [What exactly is going on? Where’s Cheng Ge?]
[A white blur just flew by, and then the stream suddenly cut off.]
[What the heck? That’s so creepy! Is this some kind of paranormal event?]
“This….” Mu Nan was stunned, and so was Cheng Han.
“Your fans sure have wild imaginations.” Mu Nan tsked as he watched the chat fill with messages about how scared they were.
Cheng Han also hadn’t expected things to take this turn, but after thinking about it, he realized it might actually be a good idea.
“Not bad.” Cheng Han said as he adjusted his equipment, getting ready to restart the stream.
“Hey!” Mu Nan stopped him. “What do you mean ‘not bad’? How are you going to explain this?”
Cheng Han pointed at the pop-up screen, “By going along with it.”
Mu Nan was curious to see what he had in mind, so he didn’t leave. Instead, he sat off-camera, watching.
The two rabbits were temporarily confined to their cage to prevent any further disruptions.
Cheng Han plugged the camera back in and faced it with a confused expression. “What happened? Did the stream just cut off?”
Mu Nan, using a dummy account, entered the stream to spy on the chat, which was so flooded with comments that it obscured Cheng Han’s face.
[A white blur just floated behind you, and then you suddenly went offline! It scared us to death!]
[Stop streaming! Go check the house to see if there’s something there!]
Cheng Han turned to look behind him. “There’s nothing here?”
Then he said with a smile. “We’re firm materialists here. Don’t believe in that sort of thing.”
Mu Nan: Shocked! This was also possible?
But then he noticed Cheng Han’s hand that was hidden beneath the camera pinching his thigh tightly in a desperate attempt to stifle his laughter.
He decided right then that Cheng Han deserved an award, crowning him as this year’s Best Actor.
After watching for a few minutes, Mu Nan went upstairs to rest. By the time Cheng Han finished the stream, it was already 11 PM.
Mu Nan came down to get some water and ran into Cheng Han, who was packing up his things.
“When did you start live streaming?” Mu Nan couldn’t resist roasting him. “Are you trying to steal business from influencers now? Impressive.”
Cheng Han’s voice was a bit hoarse from him talking and singing for over two hours. “There’s a recent endorsement deal, and it’s part of the requirements.”
“You’re obsessed with making money.” Mu Nan scoffed, “Didn’t you end up with a stomach ulcer from working yourself to the bone? I don’t get why you push yourself so hard. Money isn’t something that comes with you from birth neither is it something you can take with you when you die. And it’s not as if you grew up in poverty. Is money really that important to you?”
“I…” Cheng Han seemed like he wanted to say something, but then he stopped.
He coughed twice and quickly took a sip of water to soothe his throat.
“It’s not that bad.” Cheng Han finally answered, responding to the question Mu Nan had just asked.
“Oh, right.” Mu Nan suddenly said, “Do you remember Bai Wenyan? He’s back in the country.”
At the mention of this name, Cheng Han’s expression darkened. “When did that happen?”
“Recently. We’re meeting up soon, and he asked if you wanted to join. I remember you two didn’t get along, so I turned him down for you.” Mu Nan finished his water then went upstairs, not noticing the sudden grim look in Cheng Han’s eyes behind him.
Of course he remembered this person. After all, they had been high school classmates for three years. And Mu Nan was right—they didn’t get along.
He just didn’t expect that he actually had the nerve to come back.
