Chapter 57

The PE teacher hadn’t seen Yu Pei for a long time, and when he finally appeared, he was wearing a sling on his arm. While the other students were running laps to warm up, the teacher walked over with a smile to check on Yu Pei and chat with him for a few moments.

If we go by the strict geographical definition of seasons, it was already early autumn, but summer in South City always lingered late, so the weather was still very hot. Most students took off their school uniforms as soon as they reached the playground. After running two laps, Luo Changzhou also took off his shirt, draped it over his shoulder, and walked toward Yu Pei.

Yu Pei glanced at the muscles on his arms, then thought about his own thin arms, and decided he’d better keep his uniform on.

“Ah Pei, aren’t you hot?” Luo Changzhou gulped down half a bottle of water, and seeing that Yu Pei was still wearing his uniform with his arms and neck completely covered by fabric, couldn’t help but ask.

“I’m fine, not really hot.” Yu Pei said. He hadn’t exercised, so his body was still relatively dry, and besides, he had a cold constitution and his body temperature was always low.

But after hearing his response, Luo Changzhou looked at him with a half-smile and said in a low voice, “Maybe you’ll get hot in a bit…”

His voice was too quiet, and Yu Pei didn’t catch it clearly. He only saw his lips move, so he asked, “What did you say?”

“Nothing.” Luo Changzhou casually tied his uniform around his waist, then suddenly reached for Yu Pei’s hand, leading him toward the chairs where they’d left their bags. “Come on, let’s get our bags first. I’ll take you somewhere.”

But as soon as his hand touched Yu Pei’s, Yu Pei pulled away.

Luo Changzhou froze and turned back to look at Yu Pei in confusion.

Yu Pei also realized his action might have been hurtful. He clenched his fingers and looked around, frowning as he said, “There are a lot of people here.”

Only then did Luo Changzhou understand what he was worried about. Although he thought Yu Pei was being overly cautious, he wouldn’t argue with him over something like this.

“Okay, okay, I won’t hold your hand then.” Luo Changzhou smiled and didn’t say anything else. He instinctively raised his hand to pat Yu Pei’s head, but his hand paused mid-air before he lowered it again.

Yu Pei saw his gesture and felt a pang of sadness, but he was also worried about their relationship being discovered, so he just walked alongside him to get their bags.

“Where are we going?” Yu Pei asked after shouldering his backpack.

Luo Changzhou told him, “Somewhere no one can find us.”

Yu Pei followed Luo Changzhou as they weaved left and right around the playground. Soon they really did arrive at a very secluded spot. This place was full of trees and vines, lush and dense, with hanging vines that formed natural green walls, creating a naturally enclosed space. When the wind blew, it rustled with gentle sounds. Not only was there not a soul in sight, but even if someone came, they probably wouldn’t be able to see clearly what they were doing here.

Yu Pei had been studying at Nanhua High School for over two years, but he had no idea such a place existed on campus. He asked Luo Changzhou in surprise, “Changzhou, how did you discover this place?”

Luo Changzhou told him, “While you were home sick these past few days, during PE class many people came to talk to me. I found them annoying, so I wandered around randomly and discovered this place.”

Sure enough, just as Gu Zheng had said, when he wasn’t there, many girls came to talk to Luo Changzhou. Yu Pei said with a sour tone, “They were all girls, right?”

“Jealous?” Luo Changzhou looked down at him with a smile.

Looking into Luo Changzhou’s eyes, Yu Pei remembered how he’d just pulled his hand away, and suddenly he wasn’t jealous anymore. He lowered his eyes and said quietly, “Changzhou, I’m sorry…”

“Why are you suddenly apologizing?” Luo Changzhou took his hand and gently pulled him toward himself, drawing Yu Pei into his embrace. His chin rested against Yu Pei’s forehead as his fingers gently stroked through his hair.

“I pulled my hand away just now…” Yu Pei pressed his head against Luo Changzhou’s shoulder, his voice muffled.

“Didn’t you say there were many people there? Besides, you didn’t really pull away from me. What’s there to apologize for?” Luo Changzhou kissed Yu Pei’s earlobe, his warm breath falling on the sensitive spot behind his ear, making it tickle. Yu Pei couldn’t help but scrunch his neck.

Hearing Luo Changzhou’s nonchalant tone, he couldn’t help but ask, “Changzhou, have you ever thought about what would happen if people discovered we’re together?”

Yu Pei was very worried about this. Although he and Luo Changzhou had already met each other’s families, and their families didn’t seem to object, he was still concerned about others discovering their relationship. Not everyone could understand homosexuality, especially since they were still in school. If their teachers and classmates found out…

Yu Pei didn’t dare think further, but Luo Changzhou didn’t care at all about their relationship being discovered by others. He assumed Yu Pei’s worry stemmed from fear of being ostracized by classmates if discovered. He’d heard from Gu Zheng about some of Yu Pei’s past experiences and knew that the whole class had once been indifferent to him, so he didn’t have much fondness for their classmates. But he could understand Yu Pei’s concerns and wouldn’t force him.

“If they find out, they find out. It’s fine. If you’re scared, we’ll just be more careful in the future.” Luo Changzhou patted Yu Pei’s head, his gaze deep like a bottomless ocean. He said to Yu Pei, “Come on, let’s put our bags down.”

Yu Pei lifted his head from his embrace: “Are we going to start tutoring?”

“Tutoring what?” Luo Changzhou was both amused and exasperated. Did Yu Pei think he’d gone through all this trouble to bring him here just for tutoring? “Who said I brought you here to tutor?”

Yu Pei asked, “Isn’t it for tutoring?”

“Your head still hasn’t fully healed.” Luo Changzhou gently brushed aside the hair on Yu Pei’s forehead, revealing a scabbed wound from when Yu Pei had hit his head in the car accident. It still wasn’t completely healed.

People with concussions should avoid overusing their brains. Until Yu Pei was completely better, he didn’t want Yu Pei to worry too much about studying.

Yu Pei didn’t want Luo Changzhou to see the ugly scar on his forehead. He pushed Luo Changzhou’s hand away and let some hair fall back over the wound, saying, “It’s really much better now. I don’t get dizzy anymore.”

“Still not tutoring you.” Luo Changzhou touched the hair by his ear, cupped Yu Pei’s chin, and kissed him without question, smiling as he said, “We’ll just do what was written on that little note earlier.”

The moment their soft lips touched, Yu Pei froze completely. The sensation of kissing was so wonderful – he had never kissed anyone before, nor had he received kisses from anyone other than Luo Changzhou. He’d never even received goodnight kisses from his parents as a child.

Before, Yu Pei wouldn’t have yearned for such things, but ever since he and Luo Changzhou had kissed, Yu Pei realized how fascinated he was by this feeling. His thoughts scattered the moment he tasted the warm breath from Luo Changzhou’s lips. He’d just been worrying about what would happen if their relationship was discovered, and he clearly knew that even though this place was secluded, it couldn’t be considered completely safe. Yet he couldn’t help but tilt his chin up, meeting Luo Changzhou’s lips.

With the slight nervousness of potentially being discovered mixed with the excitement of kissing his beloved, Yu Pei felt his heartbeat quickening, as if he’d just run an 800-meter warm-up. His breathing gradually became rapid, intertwining with Luo Changzhou’s slightly uneven post-exercise breathing.

After caressing Yu Pei’s lips for a while, Luo Changzhou tried to part them. He used his tongue to gently trace Yu Pei’s lip line, and Yu Pei, completely defenseless against him, slightly parted his lips to let him in. Luo Changzhou used his tongue tip to gently explore every corner of Yu Pei’s mouth, teasing Yu Pei’s soft, nervous tongue into intertwining and pulling with his own. Yu Pei had probably eaten candy while waiting for him to finish running, as there was still a sweet, sugary fragrance lingering between his lips and teeth. Luo Changzhou knew he didn’t like sweets, but he couldn’t help following that rich sweetness deeper, and his hand that had been around Yu Pei’s waist rose to cradle the back of Yu Pei’s head, pressing him closer.

This kiss was more intense than the previous two. Saliva mixed with the candy’s sweetness couldn’t be swallowed in time and slid down the corners of their lips. Luo Changzhou left Yu Pei’s lips and extended his tongue to gently lick Yu Pei’s pale chin, kissing downward along his ear and stopping at his slender neck, graceful as a swan’s. He gently bit a small patch of soft skin there, wanting to suck harder but afraid of leaving marks.

“Stop kissing… it tickles…” Yu Pei’s body was particularly sensitive. Fine beads of sweat appeared on his forehead, seeping around the scab and causing stinging pain, but all of Yu Pei’s attention was drawn to the sensation at his neck. He couldn’t help tilting his head to the right, which only exposed more of his vulnerable neck to Luo Changzhou.

“Okay.” Luo Changzhou chuckled, his deep voice full of affection, but then he hugged Yu Pei’s waist again and captured his lips, unable to resist gently biting the tip of Yu Pei’s tongue.

Yu Pei might have been hurt by the bite – he suddenly pulled his tongue back and opened his eyes, which were wet and misty, looking at him with confusion and grievance: “Why did you bite me?”

“Because I like you.” Luo Changzhou kissed the tip of his nose.

He really did like him – liked him so much he wanted to turn this person into a piece of candy, bite it up and eat it.

“You bit me.” Yu Pei didn’t want to let him kiss anymore. In the previous two kisses, why hadn’t Luo Changzhou had this habit of biting?

But Luo Changzhou teased him again: “A kiss will make it stop hurting.”

Yu Pei listened in disbelief to Luo Changzhou’s roguish behavior, thinking no wonder Luo Changzhou had brought him to such a secluded place – what would have happened if they were somewhere else?

“Or I could let you bite me back?” Seeing that he wasn’t responding, Luo Changzhou smiled and pressed his lips to Yu Pei’s, letting him bite him too.

Yu Pei unceremoniously bit his lower lip, leaving a row of shallow teeth marks. Luo Changzhou licked the spot where he’d been bitten, then lowered his head to kiss Yu Pei’s eyes, softly calling his name: “Ah Pei…”

“Mm?”

“Can I come sleep at your house this afternoon?”

“You said you don’t have the habit of taking afternoon naps.”

“Mm, I developed it after being with you.”

“…”

The two leaned against each other, speaking in whispers, not noticing that someone had started walking toward them but then turned and left halfway there.
