Chapter 56
Yu Pei didn’t know how many times he had explained his relationship with Qi Wenqiang, and could only say helplessly, “I don’t like her anymore.”
“Ah, I see.” Tan Qiming sighed, thinking it was quite normal for Yu Pei to no longer like Qi Wenqiang. After all, matters of the heart couldn’t be forced. “What a pity though.”
But in Tan Qiming’s view, being able to date a beauty like Qi Wenqiang should still be quite fortunate, since many boys at school liked her.
However, Luo Changzhou, who was sitting beside Yu Pei, looked up when he heard this. He first glanced at Yu Pei, then looked toward Tan Qiming and said coldly, “What’s there to pity? Men are all fickle.”
Yu Pei: “……”
Tan Qiming stared at Luo Changzhou in bewilderment, unable to understand why he was criticizing him too.
But Yu Pei knew he was probably angry because he had talked with Qi Wenqiang for a while. However, Yu Pei thought about it from Luo Changzhou’s perspective and realized that if Luo Changzhou had stood chatting with a girl for a long time, he would also be jealous.
Just as he was about to say something more to Luo Changzhou, the class bell rang. Yu Pei didn’t dare disturb Luo Changzhou during class, so he sat back properly.
This period was chemistry class. Among all the science subjects, chemistry and physics were considered the two most difficult, and correspondingly, there were quite a lot of notes to take. But Yu Pei’s hand still couldn’t move, so Luo Changzhou was still helping him take notes. If it weren’t for Yu Pei’s name written on that pristine white notebook, everyone would probably think it was Luo Changzhou’s notebook.
Yu Pei had missed several days of classes, so he listened very carefully during the lecture and didn’t dare let his mind wander. However, when the teacher stopped lecturing to let the students take notes, he still couldn’t help but steal a glance at Luo Changzhou.
Luo Changzhou wrote very quickly – so fast that by the time other students were still writing furiously, he had already finished taking notes for both of them. After finishing, he sat in his seat twirling his pen, looking down at the textbook in front of him.
But Yu Pei knew he wasn’t actually reading, because when Luo Changzhou was seriously reading, he wouldn’t twirl his pen. He only twirled his pen when he was bored, daydreaming, or thinking about something – just like how he would grab things whenever he lied, it was his body unconsciously revealing little secrets.
Only this little secret was known by Yu Pei, so after thinking for a moment, he picked up a pen with his left hand and wrote Changzhou’s name in crooked letters, then pushed it in front of him.
Sure enough, the moment Yu Pei’s finger moved, Luo Changzhou’s gaze immediately glanced over. On the paper were two characters: [Changzhou~]
Looking at the wavy line after his name that was so crooked it looked like it was about to shake into a flower, Luo Changzhou raised an eyebrow, looked up at Yu Pei, then picked up his pen to write a couple of strokes on the paper before pushing it back to Yu Pei.
Yu Pei immediately sat up straight to see what was written on the paper. However, the paper Luo Changzhou pushed back was so clean that if Yu Pei hadn’t seen Luo Changzhou’s hand move, he would have thought Luo Changzhou hadn’t written anything. After searching for a while, he finally found what Luo Changzhou had written below his line:
It was a question mark!
Luo Changzhou had actually only replied with a question mark!
Yu Pei turned to look at Luo Changzhou, only to see him with a smile playing at the corners of his mouth, lazily taking notes. After finishing, he started twirling his pen again, never once looking at Yu Pei.
Yu Pei put away the note and turned his head back to look at his textbook.
After looking for a while, Yu Pei suddenly felt someone poke his arm. He glanced sideways and saw that Luo Changzhou had also passed him a small note with: [Ah Pei~]
Upon seeing the note, Yu Pei immediately drew a question mark in response.
But Luo Changzhou was still smiling. He picked up his pen, wrote a few strokes on the note, and passed it back to Yu Pei.
Yu Pei took a peek – Luo Changzhou had drawn him an expression: [=3=]
Still want a kiss?
Luo Changzhou drawing this expression was fine, but once he did, Yu Pei was reminded of the embarrassing incident when he had actively kissed Luo Changzhou that day. So Yu Pei didn’t write anything new, but took his pen and drew an X over the pursed little mouth in the expression, throwing the note back to Luo Changzhou.
However, seeing the note made Luo Changzhou’s lips curve even higher. He quickly wrote another string of things with his pen and pushed the note back in front of Yu Pei. This time, he had drawn a long string of kisses: [=33333333=]
Yu Pei couldn’t hold back anymore, but just as the corners of his mouth began to lift slightly, he heard the chemistry teacher call out Luo Changzhou’s name: “Luo Changzhou, what are you smiling about? Are you so happy in my class?”
Upon hearing the chemistry teacher’s voice, Yu Pei was so startled that he immediately hid the little note.
Teachers standing on the podium could observe everything the students below were doing clearly. Luo Changzhou usually had a cold expression, but today during class he was smiling so happily – obviously he was distracted and not listening carefully. So the chemistry teacher called on him. Yu Pei had a high stack of books in front of his desk, which usually served as cover when he slept, and now it happened to block the chemistry teacher’s line of sight, so he wasn’t called on.
The usual top student and popular figure Luo Changzhou was being called on by a teacher for the first time. When the classmates heard this, they all turned to look at him. Seeing that Luo Changzhou indeed had a smile on his face, they all widened their eyes in surprise.
However, Luo Changzhou didn’t feel embarrassed at all. When he stood up, he was still smiling as he glanced at Yu Pei, then looked toward the chemistry teacher and said with a grin, “Yes, Teacher Yang. I think you’re teaching so well that I’m sure I’ll get good scores on the college entrance exam. I get happy just thinking about it.”
His words made the chemistry teacher laugh too: “You’re quite the smooth talker. Come up and solve this problem.”
Luo Changzhou walked to the podium and wrote the correct answer on the blackboard with chalk.
Luo Changzhou not only had beautiful handwriting, but his board writing was also particularly neat and attractive. The problem the chemistry teacher had him solve on the podium wasn’t actually simple, but Luo Changzhou solved it without any hesitation, with clear and organized solution steps that made the students below gasp in admiration. When he turned around, his handsome face still bore a smile, his deep blue eyes bright and profound. Others didn’t know what he kept smiling about, but only Yu Pei knew that he had actually been looking at him the whole time.
So Yu Pei looked at him and gently curved the corners of his mouth as well.
The chemistry teacher checked the problem once and, finding no errors to pick at, raised his eyebrows and said to Luo Changzhou, “Alright, go back to your seat. Remember to stop smiling for now – wait until after the college entrance exam to smile.”
Teachers were always reluctant to be harsh with good students. Even though he knew Luo Changzhou hadn’t been paying attention and was daydreaming, he didn’t call him out on it.
The last period was PE class. As soon as class ended, more than half the students in the class dispersed. When there weren’t many people around, Gu Zheng immediately said, “Wow, not bad! What kind of shameful business were you two up to during class? Luo Changzhou even got called on by the teacher.”
Yu Pei was too embarrassed to admit he had been playing the childish game of passing notes with Luo Changzhou, so he covered up by saying, “We weren’t doing anything.”
However, the next moment Luo Changzhou honestly sold him out: “We were passing notes.”
Gu Zheng looked incredulously at Yu Pei’s immobile right hand, then at Luo Changzhou who was helping Yu Pei pack his bag and stationery like a doting mother. Imagining Yu Pei using his left hand to write and pass notes with Luo Changzhou, he felt this couple was getting more and more sickeningly sweet. He clicked his tongue and sighed, “Alright, alright, I know you two are lovey-dovey. I think you two should just go get married.”
There were still some classmates who hadn’t left the classroom. Yu Pei was startled by Gu Zheng’s loud and careless words and immediately looked around, then said to Gu Zheng, “Keep your voice down.”
Who knew that not only was Luo Changzhou not anxious, he even chimed in: “Mm, let’s get married after graduation.”
Upon hearing this, Yu Pei immediately turned his gaze toward Luo Changzhou.
Luo Changzhou wasn’t intimidated by his stare and smiled again, reaching out to pinch Yu Pei’s cheek.
Gu Zheng was so disgusted by their mushiness that he shook his head, picked up his bag, and left the classroom before them, saying, “Big brothers, I’m leaving. Let’s go to PE class.”
But the three hadn’t walked far when they saw English teacher Tian Mi holding lesson plans, heading to teach the next class.
As soon as Gu Zheng saw her, he was like a mouse seeing a cat. He immediately turned around and ran behind Yu Pei and Luo Changzhou, whispering, “Holy crap! Let me hide behind you guys!”
Yu Pei didn’t understand and asked, “What’s wrong?”
“I only scored twenty-eight points on the English monthly exam! I didn’t turn in yesterday’s English homework either. I’m afraid Teacher Tian will want to kill me if she sees me.” Gu Zheng said nervously.
Gu Zheng really thought it was cursed – he truly hated English, but he was very afraid of Teacher Tian. For some reason, whenever he saw Teacher Tian’s smiling face, he felt intimidated. However, when Tian Mi saw them, she paused and walked toward them.
“Yu Pei, you came to class today?” Tian Mi walked up to them and greeted Yu Pei with a smile. They didn’t have English class this morning, so Tian Mi was just finding out that Yu Pei had come to class.
Like Gu Zheng, Yu Pei thought Tian Mi had come to scold Gu Zheng, but unexpectedly she was talking to him instead.
After his surprise, Yu Pei nodded and replied, “Yes, I’m much better now. Thank you for your concern, Teacher Tian.”
Tian Mi said, “Good that you’re better. Your next class is PE, right? Hurry along to class.”
“Mm.” Yu Pei responded.
Gu Zheng, seeing that Tian Mi seemed not to have noticed him, was just breathing a sigh of relief thinking he had escaped disaster when Tian Mi suddenly spoke again: “Gu Zheng, you seem to not have turned in your homework.”
Gu Zheng froze, gave two dry laughs, and stammered an excuse: “I forgot to bring it…”
Tian Mi was still smiling, but her tone carried a clear warning: “Oh, you forgot to bring it. Then remember to turn it in this afternoon, or I’ll have to call your parents.”
Gu Zheng could only agree with a dejected expression.
After Tian Mi left, Gu Zheng quickly grabbed Luo Changzhou and asked, “Changzhou, where’s your English homework? Let me copy it real quick.”
“Already turned in.” Luo Changzhou said. Their homework had been collected this morning – who told Gu Zheng not to do his homework yesterday.
With no homework to copy, he could only write it himself. Gu Zheng’s heart felt like dead ashes as he walked back to the classroom to get his English homework. But then he had a sudden realization and discovered a problem – his dad wasn’t in South City anyway, so even if Tian Mi called his parents, with the mountains high and the emperor far away, his dad couldn’t control him.
Having figured out this logic, Gu Zheng turned back around excitedly and went to the sports field to play with the girls from the neighboring class.
