Chapter 72

The axe crashed down right beside his body.

One could say that surviving in the apocalypse had honed his reflexes, as his rolling dodge was swift. Had he been even a moment slower, the flying axe would have cleaved his skull open.

At present, the blade had only struck his hand, yet at least he still possessed his life.

The remaining men witnessed this scene with trembling legs, staring at Shen You and that completely unharmed chair in terror.

Only when they heard their leader’s screams did they snap back to reality.

However before they could make any move, powerful electric currents descended from above. Then the crackling lightning struck these men, causing their eyes to roll back while the air filled with the acrid smell of burnt protein.

“I already told you all to get lost, yet you refused to listen.” Shen You your them.

Then looking at the four men’s half-dead, wretched state, she used the one-click cleanup function to shovel them out like garbage.

One final person remained. Throughout the entire ordeal, he had remained silent and posed no threat to the shop.

“You can leave now.” Shen You told the man standing outside the door.

Unexpectedly, the next second, the man who had just been backing away from her in fear now trembled as he looked at her with pleading eyes.

“Please save me! Let me stay and work here! I can do anything! Darkness is about to fall, and I won’t survive out there alone!”

This place was both comfortable and safe. If he could remain here, he would never need to worry about anything again.

He positioned himself at what he considered his most handsome angle. In this apocalyptic world, his appearance could be considered somewhat valuable.

Shen You maintained an expressionless face. “You’d better walk out on your own. Moral blackmail doesn’t work on me.”

Business owners placed great importance on their first transaction of the day.

Having just arrived in this dimensional plane, her customer quota had already been filled by Sang Biao and his group.

The mission hadn’t been completed, business hadn’t been conducted, and she was already feeling frustrated.

If he had simply just asked for water, she would have been willing to give him some drinking water.

However, wanting to freeload in her shop was absolutely unacceptable.

Seeing this person’s weak and dawdling appearance, clearly reluctant to leave, she decided to give him a helping hand.

She opened the system, activated the shop’s clearing function, teleported him outside, then simultaneously blacklisted all of these individuals.

Before the man could react, an invisible air wall pushed him out.

When he regained his bearings and looked around, he found himself standing five meters away from the shop.

He swallowed the scream rising in his throat, afraid it would attract mutant creatures, however he was still unwilling to accept that he couldn’t stay.

He attempted to approach and knock on the door, but this time, he couldn’t even touch the door, let alone knock.

Then worried that time was running short and he still hadn’t found a hiding place for the night, which would spell disaster, he gave up reluctantly and left.

After walking for half an hour, he discovered several people who had been chopped up among a pile of garbage.

The woman who had been following behind and witnessed everything breathed a sigh of relief.

She didn’t know which important figure owned that shop, but seeing the miserable state of these bandits put her mind at ease. Without the appearance of that shop, she would have definitely died at their hands.

She had to seize this opportunity to escape back to the shelter!

There was a strange shop here that might be able to help everyone.

As dusk approached, Shen You brought out her barbecue grill and food from the refrigerator, then made a homemade drink with passion fruit, honey, and ice cubes.

The solar-powered lights in the courtyard were all illuminated, yet the desolate, dark scenery beyond the walls remained somewhat unsettling.

During the day, conditions were manageable, but at night, the entire Lan City became populated with mutant aberrant species.

Although these creatures couldn’t enter the shop—they couldn’t even leave a mark on the door—she could still see them and hear their roars outside.

Just moments ago, when she had gone upstairs to fetch something, she had seen several aberrant species gathered just beyond the wall.

This situation was too thrilling.

The vivid apocalyptic scenery, combined with the thought that she was the only living person present, still felt somewhat eerie.

She increased the volume of her video.

Business in this dimensional plane was challenging! The following day might not bring a single customer into the store.

She grilled herself a piece of pork belly and ate while watching videos, and that chilling sensation behind her back diminished somewhat.

When Wen Zhi pushed the door open and entered, Shen You first froze, then felt much more at ease seeing a living person. A living person she recognized.

At least it wasn’t just her and the monsters.

“After only a few days apart, the scenery here is quite novel.” Wen Zhi said lightly.

He looked up and surveyed the surroundings, his tone filled with surprise and some amusement.

“You can travel from the Great Qi to this dimensional plane?” Shen You asked in amazement.

“Yes.” He raised an eyebrow and placed the wine flask he carried onto the table. “This is wine brewed using ancient methods. You should find it interesting.”

Shen You nodded, understanding that knowing about ancient brewing methods differed from actually tasting the genuine article.

She recalled a certain museum that housed excavated wine, miraculously preserved for over a thousand years.

“I can’t return now either. I haven’t collected any gold bars here.” She sighed lightly. “There’s just this food, plus half a box of taro mochi. You seemed to enjoy it quite a bit the last time you tried it.”

Wen Zhi smiled and went to the kitchen to retrieve his bowl and chopsticks. “Didn’t you worship the God of Wealth? You haven’t received anything?”

After a moment of silence, Shen You replied firmly, “Perhaps I chose the wrong time to pray.”

“Do you have any weapons here? How about I help you deal with those things outside?” Wen Zhi suggested.

He ate a piece of taro mochi in a leisurely manner, his gaze directed toward the aberrant species hanging from the nearby archway.

“Weapons?” Shen You repeated, then took out an electric baton. “Besides this, there are kitchen knives and baseball bats. Which do you prefer?”

Wen Zhi: “….”

Seeing his indescribable expression, she explained, “I only conduct legal business. Where would I get regulated weapons?”

Wen Zhi clicked his tongue. “Never mind then.”

He stood up and began removing his outer robe.

“Hey, let’s talk this through properly. What are you doing?”

“These clothes are inconvenient.” Wen Zhi closed his eyes briefly, smiling. “I don’t want to stain them with those creatures’ blood.”

“I have raincoats here. Would you like to use one?” Shen You offered.

“No need.” Recalling the box of fluorescent raincoats she kept at the shop entrance, he refused firmly. “If others saw me wearing a raincoat in this weather, they’d think I was abnormal.”

Shen You looked puzzled. “You’re wearing ancient costume while wandering around an apocalyptic world, and you think that’s normal?”

Moreover, was there even a living person outside?

He simply found the raincoats ugly and was being prideful.

“However…” Shen You reached out to grab him, her face showing concern. “Won’t there be danger? The aberrant species outside can only circle around at most—they can’t harm us. Going outside would be completely different.”

“It’s fine.”

Hearing words of concern for his safety, Wen Zhi’s lips curved upward, and even his typically emotionless eyes were tinged with amusement.

Shen You’s concern was just that if something happened and he got injured, she would be responsible. Moreover, this was no joke. It was living monsters that were outside.

Wen Zhi pushed open the door directly and left the shop. He had access privileges, and so didn’t need Shen You to open it for him.

However, Shen You still followed, standing inside the doorway.

Outside lay the apocalyptic world, but she definitely wouldn’t venture out. It was far too dangerous.

Through the light emanating from the shop, the aberrant species became more clearly visible.

It was clear that they had originally been human, but their bodies had somehow developed in uncontrollably horrific directions.

Each looked different from the others.

Seeing a living person come out, the aberrant species that had been surrounding the shop surged forward together.

Wen Zhi merely moved unhurriedly, picking up a broken piece of rebar casually.

The ensuing scene was excessively brutal. One piece of rebar, one kill—tentacles were severed cleanly, and aberrant species fell continuously.

Meanwhile, Wen Zhi stood there, each strike appearing casual yet hitting vital points precisely, both ruthless and fierce.

The aberrant species that ran rampant in the apocalypse couldn’t even touch him.
