Chapter 11
After completing the donation process, she still had to pose for a photo with the donation certificate.
Shen You wasn’t in a hurry to leave, so at the curator’s enthusiastic invitation, she followed them to the museum cafeteria for a meal.
Surprisingly, the food at the cafeteria was quite delicious, much better than the meals at her previous company.
If she had enjoyed such good food during her working days, she would have felt much less resentful.
Shen You took the opportunity to consult with the curator and Professor Tu about some professional questions.
Previously, she had relied solely on written materials, but now she could examine the collections up close and exchange ideas with experts in the field, which was an invaluable experience.
This knowledge would consequently help her feel more confident when acquiring items for her shop.
Meanwhile, the curator and Tu Guangsong naturally felt favorably toward a young heir who immediately donated precious cultural relics after inheriting them, so they were willing to explain things to her.
In the afternoon, they personally took Shen You to areas not yet open to the public. After several conversations, they became noticeably more familiar with each other.
“These items were excavated in an emergency dig several months ago. Unfortunately, one of the most precious porcelain vases from a matching pair was broken, and we’re still restoring it.” The curator sighed.
Complete sets of cultural relics were highly valuable and rare, therefore Shen You was now really an honored guest at the museum.
“The camera is ready. Miss Shen, please stand in the middle. Yes, open the certificate.” The young man with the professional camera instructed, trying to capture both the porcelain and the people.
Shen You stood with the deputy curator on her left and the curator on her right, plus two professors, one male and one female. A true VIP treatment.
If this had happened at home, her parents would have informed all the neighbors and relatives within half a day.
After completing everything, it was time to leave. Before her departure, the museum presented Shen You with a gift.
They explained it was different from what they sold in the creative gift shop; this was an intangible cultural heritage gift not available for public purchase.
Shen You saw it was a velvet flower and silver gold-plated filigree bracelet, with the bracelet pouch made of Shu brocade.
It was a perfect replica of a museum artifact, supposedly “strictly selected by ancestors”, with the only difference being that the original artifact used real gold.
Shen You genuinely liked this gift.
“How are you getting back, Miss Shen? Should we have Jiayan drive you?” The curator asked with a smile. “You young people could use more time to connect.”
“No need to trouble anyone, I drove here myself.” Shen You replied.
After all this hospitality, she almost felt that donating the artifacts had been worthwhile.
“Then I’ll walk you out.” Xu Jiayan stepped aside to make way.
After saying goodbye to the curator and others, Shen You took the bag bearing the museum’s logo and stepped onto the escalator.
“Let’s exchange WeChat contacts. I’ll send you the photos later. Additionally, I can notify you when we schedule the first exhibition of the porcelain set.” Xu Jiayan took out his phone.
“Sure.”
Shen You scanned the QR code, completely unaware that the service desk staff were watching her and Xu Jiayan walking away together.
“Xiao Xu is our museum’s star employee. He is good-looking and highly educated. Who is this young lady?”
“Miss Shen just donated a complete set of Ru porcelain! The curator personally received her. Did you see that gift? It was custom-made by intangible cultural heritage masters for visiting delegations.”
“So young, yet already possessing such precious collections. What’s her background?”
“She mentioned at the service desk that it was an inheritance from a relative.”
“!!!”
How enviable…
Xu Jiayan accompanied Shen You to the parking area and was surprised to see her light green electric car.
Arriving in such a vehicle to donate Ru porcelain. If word got out, many people would be shocked, and it would possibly even increase the car’s value.
Thinking about this, Xu Jiayan couldn’t help but smile.
Shen You waved goodbye, got into her car, closed the door, and drove toward the exit.
Since she was already out, she decided to visit the mall to buy some things. After all, making money was meaningless if you couldn’t spend it.
At the downtown mall, Shen You first bought two autumn outfits for her parents, planning to bring them home during the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival.
After placing them in the trunk, she went to browse luxury cosmetics, not wanting to carry too many items since it would interfere with enjoying her milk tea.
Since graduating and starting work, this was her first time leisurely shopping and eating out.
The feeling of being able to buy whatever she liked was wonderful.
While Shen You was examining lipstick shades, someone suddenly called her name.
“Shen You, what a coincidence!”
“Oh, it’s you.” Shen You responded indifferently.
The woman with a smile that didn’t reach her eyes was Wu Zhengyun, her college roommate from a different major.
Unlike other dormitories, their relationship was characterized by mutual dislike.
Mainly between her and Wu Zhengyun. There was no major conflicts, just daily friction.
Back then, Wu Zhengyun would voice chat with her boyfriend at midnight to play games, completely disregarding those who wanted to sleep.
With her fiery temper, Shen You couldn’t tolerate this behavior.
She had sat up straight in bed and delivered a verbal tirade, concluding with, “You’re terrible at gaming yet insist on playing. Have some decency in the middle of the night!”
Subsequently, they were cursed out by anonymous teammates on the other end of the network who had already had enough, causing them to quit the game in embarrassment.
Retaliation came swiftly. The night before Shen You’s exam, Wu Zhengyun started gaming again.
Yet when it was time for her own exams, she self-righteously demanded that everyone remain quiet so she could rest.
The result: Shen You passed her exam with high marks, whereas Wu Zhengyun failed.
After several such confrontations, naturally their relationship couldn’t be harmonious.
“How have you been? Where are you working?” Wu Zhengyun asked, clutching her boyfriend’s arm while scrutinizing Shen You.
Her bag looked like it cost only a few dozen yuan, and her clothes weren’t any recognizable brand.
No wonder she was taking so long to choose a lipstick color. A few hundred yuan was probably a splurge for her, so she had to consider carefully.
“I heard earlier this year that your family had some troubles. Your parents guaranteed a loan for someone who ran off, then the bank came after your family. Is that why you gave up on graduate school? Is everything okay now?” Wu Zhengyun’s greeting sounded insincere, her tone reminiscent of her previous attitude.
Shen You merely smiled casually, “I’m fine. I’m not working anywhere; I quit my job recently.”
Hearing this, Wu Zhengyun sneered inwardly, assuming Shen You had failed to secure permanent employment after her internship but was too embarrassed to admit it.
“That color looks nice on you.” Wu Zhengyun said before turning to her boyfriend with a sweet smile. “I want to buy another lipstick.”
Her boyfriend nodded, “Whatever you like.”
Wu Zhengyun happily asked the sales assistant for the same shade. Seeing the situation, the assistant became more attentive toward Wu Zhengyun, smiling and asking if she would like to try their new products.
While Wu Zhengyun nodded and browsed, she said to Shen You, “This is my boyfriend, Chen Hao. He works at a foreign company.”
Then, noticing the filigree bracelet on Shen You’s wrist, her expression faltered. “A gift from your boyfriend? Pure gold?”
“Silver gold-plated. I don’t have a boyfriend.” Shen You answered.
So it was just silver with a thin gold plating! Wu Zhengyun smiled contemptuously.
“It’s good it wasn’t from a boyfriend. A man who gives silver with a thin gold plating as if it were gold isn’t worth keeping. This bag was Chen Hao’s birthday gift to me, and it’s over seven thousand yuan.
By the way, if you’re having trouble finding work, perhaps he could introduce you to his company? They’re hiring clerks now. Even during the one-month probation period, you’d earn three thousand yuan.”
