Chapter 45

Qin Huanxi covered his mouth and yawned, walking into the dining room to see Su Yang happily eating breakfast with Mo Siyuan, but Mo Shanshan was nowhere to be seen. Come to think of it, he seemed to have gone several days without seeing Mo Shanshan eating breakfast at home. Even during those two days he stayed at the Qin estate, when he came to pick up Mo Siyuan for class, Mo Shanshan hadn’t appeared either.

Su Yang and Mo Siyuan, one big and one small, were chatting about something unknown. From far away, he could hear Mo Siyuan’s giggles. The corners of Qin Huanxi’s mouth twitched almost imperceptibly. This scene had an indescribably strange quality.

For some unknown reason, Miss Su spent three or four days a week living at the Mo estate, staying even more frequently than he, the family tutor. The remaining few days required Guan Yi to personally come and request before Miss Su would “reluctantly” go home for two days as a token gesture, only to quickly run back to the Mo estate.

Although for the incredibly wealthy Mo Shaoheng, money was so abundant it couldn’t be spent in several lifetimes—what was one more mouth to feed? Moreover, Mo Shanshan and Su Yang were as close as sisters, so it didn’t matter if Su Yang lived here long-term. Plus, Mo Siyuan and Su Yang got along well, making Mo Shaoheng even more agreeable to the arrangement.

What Qin Huanxi couldn’t understand was Su Wentian’s thinking. His own daughter spent three days out of every two at his mortal enemy’s house, unwilling even to return home, yet Su Wentian didn’t seem to care at all.

Su Yang was eating with relish when she looked up to see Qin Huanxi standing dazed at the dining room entrance. She quickly called out, “Huanxi, you’re awake! Come eat breakfast.”

“Big Brother Huanxi!” Hearing Qin Huanxi had arrived, Mo Siyuan immediately tried to slide down from his chair.

Qin Huanxi hurried forward to hold Mo Siyuan down, sitting in the chair beside him. “Sit nicely and eat breakfast.”

Mo Siyuan nodded vigorously, using his fork to pick up a translucent custard bun for Qin Huanxi to eat. “Big Brother Huanxi, eat!”

Qin Huanxi opened his mouth to bite the custard bun, smiling as he reached out to pinch Mo Siyuan’s cheek. The tender texture was just as smooth and delicate as the custard bun in his mouth. The custard buns were very small, one bite each—pastries the kitchen made specially for Mo Siyuan, which the little guy usually loved eating.

Soon, the kitchen brought out Qin Huanxi’s breakfast. As he ate, he asked Su Yang, “Where’s Shanshan? I haven’t seen her eating breakfast with us these past few days.”

“Sister Shanshan has a boyfriend.” Before Su Yang could answer, Mo Siyuan mysteriously leaned close to Qin Huanxi and whispered, “Sister Shanshan said we can’t tell Dad yet.”

“Pfft…” Su Yang nearly spilled her food laughing. “Such a little gossip!”

Mo Siyuan didn’t care at all, grinning and happily saying, “After Dad and Big Brother Huanxi went on your date yesterday, Sister Shanshan and Uncle Li came to pick up Xiao Yuan together. Xiao Yuan asked Sister Shanshan, and Sister Shanshan said Uncle Li is already her boyfriend, and Uncle Li likes Sister Shanshan very much too.”

This time it was Qin Huanxi who nearly choked. The little guy was still as shocking in his pronouncements as ever. He asked with exasperated amusement, “Who told you I went on a date with your dad yesterday?”

“Wasn’t it? Big Brother Huanxi is lying. You clearly went out with Dad and left Xiao Yuan behind, and made Sister Shanshan come pick up Xiao Yuan after class. Xiao Yuan called Dad so many times before you two came back.” Mo Siyuan pouted unhappily, though thinking that Big Brother Huanxi had slept with Dad last night, he decided to magnanimously forgive them this once.

Qin Huanxi rubbed his forehead. The little guy was quite the grudge-holder. He’d thought after sleeping, the little guy would have forgotten about this, but apparently he remembered it crystal clear. Breakfast wasn’t even finished, and he was already being called to account.

Seeing Qin Huanxi’s helpless expression, Su Yang gloated and laughed heartily, leisurely propping her chin to ask, “Come clean then. Are you and Uncle Mo together now? This morning when I saw Uncle Mo leaving, he was positively glowing. Clearly good things have happened.”

Qin Huanxi’s exquisitely handsome face rarely showed embarrassment. He cleared his throat with forced composure, unable to stop his mind from conjuring images of embracing Mo Shaoheng. Even after a whole night had passed, his body’s senses seemed to clearly remember Mo Shaoheng’s warm body temperature.

Even now, Qin Huanxi still felt embarrassed thinking about it. The feeling of being held tightly by Mo Shaoheng was too wonderful. So wonderful he couldn’t bear to leave Mo Shaoheng’s embrace. The consequence of craving warmth was that he completely couldn’t remember when he’d fallen asleep, and when he woke up, Mo Shaoheng had already gotten up and disappeared.

Qin Huanxi suddenly felt very regretful. Such perfect atmosphere should have led to further developments, but he’d fallen asleep and missed it. However, he probably wasn’t the only one with regrets. Thinking of Mo Shaoheng’s expression upon seeing him asleep, it must have been even more helpless than his current state, and that tiny bit of regret instantly vanished without a trace.

Just as he was savoring these memories, an enlarged pale little face suddenly appeared before his eyes, startling him into reflexively leaning back.

“Big Brother Huanxi, what are you thinking about? Sister Su Yang and Xiao Yuan called you several times, but you didn’t answer.” Mo Siyuan tilted his little head in confusion.

“Sorry, Xiao Yuan. Big Brother Huanxi was just thinking about some things.” Qin Huanxi apologetically patted Mo Siyuan’s little head.

“Were you thinking about Dad?” Mo Siyuan looked innocently angelic, his eyes bright and sparkling.

“Hahaha…” Su Yang stood up and scooped Mo Siyuan into a hug, rubbing against him vigorously. “You’re truly my little darling.”

Qin Huanxi suddenly felt his head aching. Mo Siyuan was indeed Mo Shaoheng’s little padded jacket, warming only Mo Shaoheng. But thinking of how the little guy wholeheartedly hoped he and Mo Shaoheng would be together, he abandoned his awkwardness and openly admitted, “Mm, thinking of your dear daddy.”

Mo Siyuan first stared blankly at Qin Huanxi, then his smile gradually widened. He suddenly threw himself into Qin Huanxi’s arms, hugging his neck affectionately and calling out, “Mummy! From today on, you’re my mummy. I finally have a mummy too!”

Qin Huanxi was truly stunned this time, having no idea how to respond.

Su Yang had completely lost her elegant young lady composure from laughing, repeatedly calling out “little darling, my source of joy.”

Led by the housekeeper, Qin Yu stepped into the dining room just in time to hear Mo Siyuan calling Qin Huanxi “Mummy” while hugging him. Qin Huanxi looked dumbstruck, while Su Yang laughed herself silly on the side. Seeing such a lively yet warm scene first thing in the morning somehow miraculously began to heal his heart, which had shattered into countless fragments but now had to pretend to be strong.

Qin Huanxi sensitively felt a pair of eyes watching them. Turning around, he saw Qin Yu standing dazed at the dining room entrance. Though Qin Yu maintained an amiable smile, his complexion was very haggard, his eyes bloodshot and somewhat swollen. Clearly he’d slept very poorly, and there were even traces showing he’d been crying.

Qin Huanxi placed Mo Siyuan back in his chair and stood up, pulling out the chair beside him. “Little Uncle, good morning. Come sit.”

Qin Yu collected himself and sat down in the chair Qin Huanxi had pulled out, saying gently, “Thank you.”

Qin Huanxi smiled, turning back to see Mo Siyuan’s big round eyes wide open, curiously looking at Qin Yu. He couldn’t help but laugh as he lifted the little guy onto his lap, introducing him: “Xiao Yuan, this is Big Brother Huanxi’s uncle. Come on, say hello to Uncle Qin Yu.”

Mo Siyuan looked at Qin Yu once, then quickly turned back to look at Qin Huanxi, asking very seriously, “Mummy’s uncle, can Xiao Yuan call him uncle too?”

“Haha…” Su Yang was beyond caring. Even with other people present, she had to laugh her fill. Forget about maintaining the noble elegance of a wealthy young lady. This little guy had supplied her with a year’s worth of comedy. Mo Shanshan and Mo Shaoheng missing this was such a huge loss.

“My little sweetheart, you should say this in front of your dad. I guarantee your dad will praise you lavishly.” Su Yang couldn’t stop laughing. Only after a long while did she manage to restrain her laughter and generously greet Qin Yu: “Little Uncle Qin, long time no see.”

“Long time no see.” Qin Yu smiled and nodded. He wasn’t really familiar with Su Yang, but that didn’t prevent him from having a good impression of her. Though Miss Su was willful and headstrong, she could distinguish right from wrong and wouldn’t view him, this illegitimate young master, through colored glasses. She was quite friendly toward him.

Qin Huanxi gave Su Yang a “tone it down” look, but Miss Su was at the peak of her excitement and completely ignored his warning, just focusing on her private amusement. He helplessly looked down at the little treasure in his arms who specialized in undermining him. This little guy seemed particularly attached to the term “Mummy.”

After the kitchen brought out Qin Yu’s breakfast, Qin Huanxi asked Qin Yu, who was focused on eating: “Little Uncle, when did you get back? Why didn’t you go home first?”

Qin Yu looked up at Qin Huanxi. Qin Huanxi’s expression was very calm, his eyes holding some concern, bringing a trace of warmth to his cold heart. He said lightly, “I just got back recently. I encountered some issues and didn’t want Dad worrying about me. I was planning to go see him in a couple days.”

Qin Huanxi nodded, not pressing for details. Qin Yu’s condition was clearly not just “some issues”. It was obviously the despair and hurt from receiving a devastating blow. For someone like Qin Yu, whose birth destined him to experience more than others, he shouldn’t be so easily crushed. The only thing that could completely destroy a person’s willpower was heartbreak!

“After breakfast, I’ll accompany you back to see Grandfather. Since you’re back, you should make a trip home.” Qin Huanxi said gently.

Qin Yu nodded. The heart-wrenching grief seemed less unbearable when faced with care from family.

“By the way, Huanxi, how do you come to be living at Mr. Mo’s house…” Qin Yu glanced at Mo Siyuan and asked hesitantly, “You and Mr. Mo…”

Qin Huanxi smiled and explained, “I’m Xiao Yuan’s family tutor…”

As soon as he finished speaking, he sensed the little guy on his lap was unhappy. Qin Huanxi patted the little guy’s head with amusement and added, “I’m currently dating Uncle Mo.”

Mo Siyuan immediately beamed, nodding vigorously: “Mm-hmm! Dad and Big Brother Huanxi are dating. From today on, Big Brother Huanxi is my mummy!”

“You little rascal!” Naturally, Qin Huanxi couldn’t argue with his precious baby son. He could only pinch his cheek as a warning.

Qin Yu looked at the smile on Qin Huanxi’s face and smiled somewhat desolately: “Mr. Mo is a very good person.”

Qin Huanxi turned to look at Qin Yu, gaining some understanding in his heart. He simply nodded lightly.

After finishing breakfast, Qin Huanxi asked Su Yang to take Mo Siyuan to class while he took Qin Yu back to the Qin estate first. Fortunately, he only had two classes this morning, and there was still time before class started. Just as he and Qin Yu walked out of the main hall, he received a call from Mo Shaoheng.

“I’m accompanying Little Uncle back first. Su Yang is taking Xiao Yuan to class.” As Qin Huanxi spoke, he suddenly remembered about Mo Shanshan and sighed helplessly. He never thought he’d have a day of being “led by the nose”, and by his precious baby son no less. He’d forgotten about Mo Shanshan and Li Junyan’s relationship.

“Be careful on the road. I’ll have the housekeeper arrange for someone to take you back.” Mo Shaoheng was very worried. Just now he’d received news from Qi Fengyu that the person Ning Shen was looking for was indeed Qin Yu. With Ning Shen’s connections and methods, he would soon discover that Qin Yu had returned to T City.

Mo Shaoheng didn’t want Qin Huanxi getting involved in this matter at all, much less did he want Ning Shen to see Qin Huanxi.

“Alright, I understand. I’ll be careful. Focus on your work.” Qin Huanxi said softly, though his mind was on Mo Shanshan’s situation. He decided to ask Su Yang about it during lunch. He had an uneasy feeling about Mo Shanshan and Li Junyan dating. Once he was certain, he’d discuss it with Mo Shaoheng.

“Wait for me at school after class. I’ll come pick you up.”

“Okay, I’ll wait for you.”

Qin Huanxi hung up the phone and turned to Qin Yu beside him: “Little Uncle, let’s go.”

Qin Yu looked at Qin Huanxi as if he wanted to say something, but ultimately remained silent.
