Chapter 20
Editor: Princess
When Qin Huanxi woke up and saw that unfamiliar, fancy ceiling above him, he felt kind of foggy and out of it, and it took him a long moment to gather his thoughts before he shot up in bed, startled.
He looked down at his hands subconsciously, and when he saw that they were still those same pale, slender hands, he held his forehead and quietly let out a breath of relief.
Ever since he reunited with his precious son, he’d gotten a little paranoid and anxious every time he woke up—just the thought of everything that had happened to him, like how he’d actually managed to come back from the dead by borrowing a body, made him worry that maybe the heavens would suddenly take that favor back.
He’d finally found his baby again, he didn’t want to lose him all over again.
He knew he was probably being too sensitive, way too obsessed with gains and losses, what’s more honestly, something like rebirth was a once-in-a-lifetime miracle, because how could it happen twice?
He chuckled at himself in his head, pulled himself together, and was just about to call his baby to wake up when he suddenly realized something felt off.
He lowered his hand from his forehead, kind of stunned as he looked at the blanket covering him, then his head suddenly jerked up as he looked around. This wasn’t his baby’s room at all.
The next second, a thought flashed through his mind, and his neck went stiff. In that instant, he didn’t even dare look over to the other side of the bed.
He really wanted to just dive back under the blanket and pretend he was still dreaming, as if if he just went back to sleep, he’d wake up in his baby’s room again.
Last night he’d been enjoying the night view and sipping good wine with Mo Shaoheng, everything was so chill and pleasant, but what happened after that, he had no memory of whatsoever.
He was annoyed. Why did stuff like this always happen between him and Mo Shaoheng?
This was like the third time he’d woken up all fuzzy-headed in Mo Shaoheng’s bed.
Thankfully, aside from the first time, nothing crazy ever actually happened after that, otherwise he wouldn’t even know how to keep staying at the Mo Mansion as his baby’s home tutor.
But he was starting to doubt whether that first time really had been an accident.
Because based on what he knew about Mo Shaoheng, the man didn’t seem like the kind who’d let that kind of “accident” happen at all.
Besides, last night, Mo Shaoheng had already sort of hinted at having feelings for him, so maybe that “accident” back then wasn’t so accidental, maybe Mo Shaoheng had just gone along with the flow, using the excuse of being tipsy.
He let out a quiet sigh, thinking that maybe he really had figured out the truth.
But at this point, he didn’t want to dig into it anymore, because “Ning Xue’s” body was long gone, just ashes now, and bringing it up again wouldn’t mean anything.
He turned to glance at Mo Shaoheng, who still had his eyes closed, then quietly lifted the blanket and climbed out of bed.
When he stepped into the bathroom, sure enough, there was a brand-new set of toiletries laid out for him on the counter.
His lips curved into a faint little smile, which made his already-pretty reflection in the mirror look even more attractive, giving that face of his—which was already striking to begin with—even more irresistible charm.
However he was still thinking about Mo Siyuan, so he quickly washed up, changed out of the bathrobe, and stepped out of the bathroom.
In the room, Mo Shaoheng was already awake, sitting in a single sofa chair with his eyes closed, just resting.
Qin Huanxi’s face twitched a little with just a hint of awkwardness, but then he pretended to be calm and said, “Uncle Mo, good morning.”
“Good morning.” Mo Shaoheng opened his eyes, and maybe it was because he’d just woken up, but they looked unusually deep and piercing, like you could fall into them if you stared too long, and his voice was also a little hoarse.
Qin Huanxi turned his head and let out a small cough, absolutely refusing to admit that he’d just been nearly seduced by Mo Shaoheng’s deep and magnetic voice. It was the kind of voice that could literally make someone’s ears pregnant.
Mo Shaoheng didn’t miss that tiny flash of discomfort on Qin Huanxi’s face, and a bit of mischief flickered in his eyes as he stood up and said, “Wait for me a bit. How about we go see Xiao Yuan together?”
“Sure.” Qin Huanxi softened up the moment he thought of Mo Siyuan, and with a slightly guilty tone, said, “I wonder if he’s awake yet—I owe him an apology for ditching him last night just because I got greedy with the wine.”
Mo Shaoheng suddenly chuckled. “You can make it up to him tonight.”
Qin Huanxi’s head jerked up and he stared straight at Mo Shaoheng, however he looked serious, not like he was joking at all.
But honestly, last night he had been all about that sweet wine, drank a couple more cups than he should’ve, and just totally knocked out, completely forgetting his promise to his baby.
“Yeah, I definitely have to make it up to the little guy. Grown-ups shouldn’t break promises—guess I’m a pretty lousy home tutor.” Qin Huanxi joked.
“If the little guy’s already awake and sees that I’m not with him, then he’s probably throwing a fit by now. Uncle Mo, you should go wash your face already.”
Mo Shaoheng nodded. “Give me five minutes.”
“Mm.” Qin Huanxi responded and waited until Mo Shaoheng went into the bathroom, then walked over to the floor-to-ceiling windows, pulled back the heavy curtains, and let the warm sunlight pour in.
He stretched lazily, feeling super comfortable, then sat on the balcony chair and casually picked up a magazine to flip through.
Mo Shaoheng had excellent timing, because about five minutes later, he stepped out all cleaned up and tidy.
Qin Huanxi rubbed his chin as he looked Mo Shaoheng over, giving him this playful and vaguely meaningful look.
The very first time he saw Mo Shaoheng was at a school board meeting.
He had been the student council president, in charge of reception and setup, while Mo Shaoheng had shown up as the board chairman of T University, naturally attending the meeting.
After the meeting, Qin Huanxi had also been the one to guide the board members around campus.
That’s when they’d first had some interaction, and maybe it was because they were the type of people who admired each other, but even though they didn’t talk much, they left deep impressions on each other.
In his memory, no matter the time or place, Mo Shaoheng was always in a suit, meticulous and dignified, giving off this natural authority.
So seeing him now, dressed all casual, really caught him off guard.
Mo Shaoheng was already really good-looking, and when he wasn’t smiling, he gave off this cold, powerful aura.
But when the corners of his mouth lifted even just a little, it made people’s hearts race and teenage girls swoon.
And right now, with him dressed all casual like this, it was like he’d instantly gotten several years younger, and he didn’t have that ‘keep your distance’ vibe anymore—now he seemed more gentle and refined.
Of course, as a man, the last thing one wanted was for someone to call them “old”.
As this word just hit different when it was used on a man, full of all kinds of undertones.
And he definitely didn’t dare to poke at Mo Shaoheng’s bottom line like this.
“What, is there a problem?” Mo Shaoheng raised a brow when he saw Qin Huanxi staring at him like he was glued to the spot.
“Nope! Uncle Mo, you’re especially handsome today!”
“If you went to an amusement park looking like this, I bet a bunch of little girls would be asking for your contact info—someone might even sneak a pic and post it on Weibo. The trending topic would be something like ‘Hot guy spotted at T City amusement park’.”
“Uncle Mo, you might as well just start going by the nickname ‘Amusement Park God’ from now on.”
Qin Huanxi cracked up at his own joke as he said it.
Mo Shaoheng’s mouth twitched just a little, but he kept a straight face and said calmly, “You’re…extra lively today.”
Qin Huanxi got stuck for words. He was planning to tease Mo Shaoheng a bit more, but now he’d gotten teased right back instead.
Feeling a bit embarrassed, he said, “I’m going to go check on Xiao Yuan, maybe he’s already awake.”
Mo Shaoheng looked at Qin Huanxi’s back as he rushed out the door and the corners of his lips couldn’t help but lift. Then he followed after him, clearly in a really good mood.
When Qin Huanxi got to Mo Siyuan’s room, he automatically slowed his steps.
He gently opened the door, just about to step inside, when he heard a soft, gentle voice and a cute little child’s laughter coming from inside.
He pushed the door open right away and saw Mo Shanshan sitting on the bed helping Mo Siyuan get dressed.
“Huanxi? Little Uncle?” Mo Shanshan looked at the two of them in surprise as they entered, and a wild thought suddenly popped into her head.
Wait a second… Did Qin Huanxi sleep with Little Uncle last night?
This thought shocked her to her core. She’d originally thought Qin Huanxi had just stayed with Mo Siyuan last night.
When she came to check on Siyuan this morning, she was worried that Qin Huanxi might still be in the room, so she even knocked politely.
But it was just a sleepy-looking Mo Siyuan rubbing his eyes who opened the door.
Even then, she figured Huanxi had just gone to sleep in another room.
Sure, her little uncle usually didn’t let guests stay in his main building, however there were still empty rooms, so it wasn’t that strange if he let Huanxi crash for one night.
However she never expected that they’d actually… slept together!
Wasn’t her uncle super picky and kind of a clean freak who didn’t like people going in and out of his room?
“Big brother Huanxi!” Mo Siyuan got so excited when he saw him that he jumped up in bed.
If Mo Shanshan hadn’t held him back in time, the little guy probably would’ve just leapt straight off.
Qin Huanxi laughed and walked over to scoop him up, patting the back of his head and saying, “Easy, easy, let’s finish getting dressed first, okay?”
Mo Siyuan snuggled up to Huanxi’s neck and rubbed against him affectionately.
Then suddenly, like he just remembered something, he pulled back with a serious little face and said, “Big brother Huanxi, did you not sleep with me last night?”
“When I woke up this morning, you weren’t there.”
Qin Huanxi coughed awkwardly and turned to shoot Mo Shaoheng a look.
However Mo Siyuan raised his soft, chubby hands and held his face so they were looking eye to eye.
“Big brother Huanxi, you’re not allowed to lie! Teacher said liars are bad children!”
Mo Shanshan couldn’t hold it in anymore and burst out laughing.
Meanwhile off to the side, Mo Shaoheng pretended to stay calm and looked away, but his twitching cheek totally gave away the fact that he was holding back a laugh.
Qin Huanxi, feeling completely defeated, set his baby back on the bed.
As he helped him get dressed, he explained, “Sorry, Xiao Yuan. Big brother Huanxi didn’t keep his promise.”
“I had a few drinks with your dad last night and accidentally fell asleep, so to make up for it, I’ll sleep with you tonight, how’s that sound?”
“Big brother Huanxi’s not going back home tonight?” Mo Siyuan’s eyes lit up.
“That’s right. I’m staying just for you,” Huanxi said as he finished dressing him.
He picked him up and set him on the floor, then took his tiny hand and said, “Let’s go wash our face and brush our teeth. After breakfast, we’ll head out. Do you want to go to the amusement park or the zoo?”
Mo Siyuan tilted his little head and thought for a second. “I want to go to both…”
“How about we go to the amusement park this week, and the zoo next week?”
“Wow, your little brain sure dreams big.”
“Hehe… Big brother Huanxi, please please please can we?”
“Alright, alright, okay. We’ll do what you want.”
“But you have to practice your violin properly, got it?”
“Okay!”
Mo Shanshan stood there smiling, watching them disappear into the bathroom.
Then she turned to look at Mo Shaoheng, whose expression had softened a lot.
“Huanxi’s really patient,” She started. “He genuinely cares about Xiao Yuan. It’s only been half a month, and he’s already helped him open up and get so cheerful.”
Mo Shaoheng paused for a second and said, “Xiao Yuan has a natural talent for violin. He reminds me of him.”
“Him?” Mo Shanshan immediately caught on. “You mean Senior Ning Xue?”
“I’ve heard before that his violin skills were just as good as Huanxi’s.”
“If he hadn’t given up playing for the sake of his family’s business, he’d probably be just as famous as Huanxi by now. What a shame.”
Mo Shaoheng gave her a look, one that made her feel like maybe she’d just said something deeper than she realized.
She’d always felt like her uncle had this special closeness and trust toward Qin Huanxi.
She didn’t really know what kind of relationship he had with Ning Xue in the past, but from what Qi Fengyu and He Jingyi had said, it seemed like her little uncle probably liked Ning Xue.
Otherwise, why would he have adopted Mo Siyuan?
Mo Shanshan shook her head. Whatever, all that stuff was in the past, so there was no point holding onto it now.
If her little uncle really had moved on from Ning Xue, she’d be happy to see him getting closer to Qin Huanxi.
After all, it had been seven years already, and her little uncle wasn’t young anymore. He couldn’t spend his whole life single just raising Mo Siyuan.
She really hoped someone would be there for him. It didn’t matter if it was a guy or a girl, as long as they really loved him. Then she’d feel at ease.
And if that person was Qin Huanxi, she’d honestly be thrilled.
Because not just anyone would love Mo Siyuan the way he did.
In the whole Mo family, her little uncle was the only one who really cared for her.
When she was a child, her grandma didn’t like her, and her parents always followed her grandma’s lead.
Even if they wanted to care about her, they never dared to show it, and sometimes they’d outright ignore her.
Eventually, her little uncle took her away from that house.
To her, her little uncle was her real family.
So after he brought Mo Siyuan home and she saw how busy he was, she stepped in and took care of the little one with all her heart.
To her, having her little uncle and Siyuan was what made a real home.
That other place? It was too cold, too selfish.
