Chapter 185.1

Editor: Jodi

It was a very ordinary yet extraordinary day.

Li Hao thought of his sister, his mother, and that hateful man.

The film’s shooting techniques were exquisite, featuring flashbacks, one suspenseful twist after another and hidden turbulence beneath a calm surface, all accompanied by eerie music.

Cheng Yu had read the script, yet he was still shocked when Li Hao recalled how he had lured and killed his brother-in-law step by step.

He watched the latter half of the movie almost without blinking, all the way to the end, where Li Hao walked to a door from which cries were coming, and knocked slowly.

He saw an angry man.

Who asked him irritably, ‘What do you want?’

Li Hao smiled gently, “Did you hear any cries? I just heard some, and it seems to be coming from your house.”

“What’s it to you?” The man snapped.

Li Hao’s gaze bypassed him and saw a wounded woman not far away.

He opened his mouth: “You should take her to the hospital.”

And the man, feeling humiliated, swung at him, but Li Hao struck him down.

The woman looked at him in surprise, however Li Hao only said calmly, “You can get a medical examination and then leave him.”

The woman looked at him, her face full of sorrow.

And looking at her, it was as if Li Hao was seeing his sister again when she was young, “If you don’t save yourself, no one else can help you.”

Then after he finished saying this, he turned and walked downstairs.

He could avenge his sister, but not everyone who was hurt had a brother who could avenge them.

In the end, people had to rely on themselves. If one didn’t try everything to save themselves, then how could others really help them?

He walked out of the building, the sky brightening outside slowly, the sun about to rise.

Li Hao knew that his dawn had arrived.

However, the woman in the hallway had not seen her own dawn yet.

He stepped out of the building, heading towards the police station and towards the light in his heart.

The movie ended, and Cheng Yu let out a long sigh, his heart full of sadness and emotion.

He was moved by Li Hao’s feelings for his sister, yet at the same time, lamented for women like Li Hao’s sister, sorrowful for their misfortune and angered by their passivity.

Sighing, he turned to look at Lin An Lan, “It was great, even better than I imagined.”

Only then did Lin An Lan finally relax.

Although he had always been confident in this film, it was, after all, his first work to be released after winning an award. He had been worried about its quality, afraid that it might disappoint the audience’s expectations.

He was well aware that 70% of the pre-sale tickets were bought because of him, which meant that if the movie wasn’t good, it would hurt not only him but also those fans and moviegoers who had high hopes for him.

Fortunately, Zhao Xiaochuan turned out to be even more impressive than he had imagined, managing to control the film’s pacing so well. Neither dragging nor rushed, it hit all the right points in the plot, leaving him with little time to talk to Cheng Yu throughout the screening.

“I feel the same way.” Lin An Lan said with a sigh of relief, looking at him. “I was quite nervous before watching it, but now, I’m not nervous anymore.”

Regardless of the film’s box office performance, its story and theme were excellent. Lin An Lan guessed that its word-of-mouth would be good, and that was already very reassuring.

He had taken on this film hoping to secure both box office success and critical acclaim, and now, with ‘Breaking Dawn’ already surpassing everyone’s expectations in pre-sales, as long as its word-of-mouth held, its box office numbers were bound to be substantial.

Thinking this way, he couldn’t help but lean closer to Cheng Yu, hugging him as he relaxed. “I can finally breathe easy. It’s great.”

Cheng Yu thought that at this moment, Lin An Lan looked nothing like Li Hao in the film, instead, he was adorably cute.

“Then let’s go eat now. Didn’t you make a reservation?”

“En.” Lin An Lan replied, “Let’s go. I’ll treat you to a feast!”

“Wow~” Cheng Yu played along, “I’m so excited~”

And amused by his exaggerated tone, Lin An Lan laughed, pulling him out of the theater.

They headed to the rooftop restaurant in high spirits, and while they were dining, the first batch of reviews for ‘Breaking Dawn’ was released.

Much like Lin An Lan and Cheng Yu’s own evaluations, both netizens and critics gave the film extremely high praise.

“Wow!!! Zhao Xiaochuan is amazing, focusing on such a topic and filming it so well!”

“This is the best film Zhao Xiaochuan has ever made. Both in terms of ideology and storytelling, it’s his most outstanding work. It’s not as obscure as his previous films, and anyone can understand it. I predict a box office hit!”

“He had a minor hit before, but if this one is a big success, his future will be secured.”

“I think it’s Lin An Lan who is going to be unstoppable. Two films, and both of them are surprisingly great!”

“Hot fact: Lin An Lan is a newcomer to the film industry.”

“Stop calling him a newcomer. His rise has been too rapid. He won Best Actor for his first film, and the second one is of this caliber. This isn’t a newcomer— this is the film industry’s rising star.”

“Honestly, this film got so many showings and dominated pre-sales largely because of Lin An Lan. With his current fame and popularity, anything he stars in is bound to be a hit.”

“Be bold. It’s more than half due to him. How many die-hard fans does Zhao Xiaochuan have? He’s not like Director Zhang, who has a solid base. When Lin An Lan took on this film, some people even mocked him, saying they weren’t afraid it might turn out to be a flop.”

“Hahahahaha, I remember that. It’s because Zhao Xiaochuan’s last commercial film had mediocre reviews, though it did well at the box office. But who could have predicted that in just a year, Lin An Lan would become this popular?”

“To be honest, he was already quite popular before, but after getting together with Cheng Yu, his popularity soared even more. It’s amazing. This is the first time I’ve seen top stars announcing their relationship and not losing fans but gaining them instead!”

“That’s because not only are they top stars who have made an official announcement, their cp is also very easy to ship! Who hasn’t seen a few classic gifs of ‘Yu Lan’?”

“I’m betting this movie has a chance at awards. I’ve checked around, and it’s all positive reviews. If there are no other dark horses in the summer box office, this should secure the top spot.”

“I agree. Most of the key scenes revolve around Lin An Lan. While other characters have significant screen time, their roles mainly serve to enrich Li Hao’s character, so if there’s an award to be won, Lin An Lan has the best chance.”

“Damn, no way, right? He can’t win another award, can he? That would be insane.”

“Probably not. The Golden Laurel Award has never been given to the same person two years in a row, so I don’t think it’ll happen.”

“I don’t think so either.”

Lin An Lan never expected that just while having dinner, netizens’ thoughts would have already jumped to him winning another award. That seemed too far-fetched. Besides, after thinking about it, he also didn’t think he’d win again so soon.

He had just won an award, so it was unlikely he would win another so quickly.

He didn’t dwell on it and returned home with Cheng Yu.
