Chapter 6.1

During the following week, Mu Nan didn’t have any recordings scheduled. However he had various commercial activities waiting for him.
He flew to the southwest to shoot a series of travel photos, and after returning, he filmed a new product advertisement for a cosmetics brand he’d been endorsing for a long time, seamlessly blending work and recording.
And when he resumed recording, his complexion wasn’t that good, because a week of intense work had left him with a slight cold.
He leaned heavily on the mentor’s chair, listening to the on-site director explain today’s script.
Not long after, Cheng Han arrived late, but even indoors, he was wrapped up in a heavy coat, looking even worse than last week when they last met because he was sick.
The female mentor asked with concern, “Cheng Ge, you’re still not feeling well, and Mu Ge is sick too. It’s as if you two discussed it.”
However as soon as the words were out, she wished she could take them back. She knew these two didn’t get along, yet she still had to stir up trouble.
Sure enough, Mu Nan sniffed and complained, “Yeah, it’s all because someone infected me.”
Cheng Han ignored him, curling up in the oversized chair, looking a bit pitiful.
The female mentor chuckled awkwardly, trying to smooth things over, “Both of you brothers are so dedicated, not even resting properly when you’re sick. Ha, hahaha.”
Amidst the gradually stiffening laughter, the recording officially began.
This performance was the elimination round, where the bottom ten contestants after two rounds of scoring would bid farewell to the stage completely.
Over the past week, contestants had had to prepare their promotional songs as well as prepare for this performance, so one could imagine the stage effects.
There were forgetful moves, off-key singing, and chaotic choreography everywhere, which made Mu Nan lose interest.
He recalled his debut five years ago. There hadn’t been any such talent shows back then. At that time, their group of seven trainees released a single, which counted as their debut.
And back then, there was no overnight sensation, because for three months after their debut, they didn’t have a single day off as they sang their debut song thousands of times, which later made Mu Nan feel nauseous just hearing the melody.
But nowadays, talent shows were different. Thousands of young boys with dreams would come together, most of them having no training experience, with their singing at the level of karaoke and their dancing at the level of square dancing. They thought they looked decent, and so assumed that they could climb to the top of the pyramid and become big stars.
However in reality, things were never that easy. Without going through any hardships and they just wanted to be at the top?
After a few groups, it was Yang Yuzhu’s turn to take the stage.
Yang Yuzhu stood at the central position, and with just one opening pose, Mu Nan felt that his gaze was different from others. His eyes were filled with confidence and determination as he faced the camera with a proud demeanor.
And sure enough, his performance didn’t disappoint Mu Nan. His voice was unique, his breath stable, and his movements powerful. Even though Mu Nan wasn’t pleased with him because of Cheng Han, he couldn’t conscionably give him a low score.
However an unforeseen situation occurred. It was inevitable that there would be some movement issues with the choreography as it was a five-person performance. In the fast-paced movement, Yang Yuzhu was accidentally tripped by a teammate in the back row.
This caused him to stumble, and he had to brace himself with his hands on the ground to avoid falling, however due to his proficient grasp of the movements, he quickly caught up with the rhythm.
However, in the second half of the song, his whole demeanor changed.
He was like a deflated balloon, and although his pitch was still accurate and he didn’t forget the lyrics, he lost the sparkle in his eyes, and his movements were merely perfunctory, causing the first and second halves of the song to look as if they had been performed by two different people.
And this was not only tormenting for Yang Yuzhu himself, but also for Mu Nan.
At this moment, he just wanted to rush onto the stage, shake Yang Yuzhu’s shoulders, and encourage him to pull himself together. He wanted to tell him that a small mistake didn’t matter, and that his overall performance was still outstanding.
However he couldn’t do any of these. He could only watch helplessly as he finished his performance in a daze, then stand in the middle of the stage, waiting for the verdict with despair.
He looked as if he were about to cry, his face pale and his expression ugly, making people feel uncomfortable. Mu Nan knew how much effort he had put in. He was the hardest working and most talented contestant among them all, and he deserved to deliver a brilliant performance and receive high praise.
Unconsciously, Mu Nan looked at Cheng Han. Yang Yuzhu was a contestant strongly supported by Cheng Han, so he wanted to see how Cheng Han would react.
But to his surprise, Cheng Han didn’t hesitate at all as he raised the “C” sign.
Everyone was stunned.
