Chapter 36.2 A little out of control

Editor: Jodi

Today was New Year’s Eve, so in the afternoon, Mother and Father Shen also arrived. They hadn’t seen Shen Bie’s grandfather for a long time, and after seeing him, they were busy catching up, and so didn’t pay any attention to their two sons.

Still feeling as if his soul had left his body, Shen Bie locked himself in his room. Shen Ci knocked on his door several times but didn’t get a response.

And with sand sculpture netizens Wei Shuo and Yang Ning busy preparing for New Year’s Eve at their homes, no one was available for him to hang out with, leaving Shen Ci bored out of his mind.

He laid on the sofa, staring at the fish tank on the table where the goldfish was also swimming slowly in a bored manner.

He tapped the glass of the fish tank: “Ai, it’s just the two of us…..”

“So bored?” A shadow fell over him, and Lu Xiao’s calm voice sounded.

Shen Ci blinked, a little shocked as he looked up.

Lu Xiao reached out to pinch the child’s earlobe, a smile in his eyes: “Get up, I’ll take you ice skating.”

Shen Ci got up immediately, but he still asked carefully, “What about….. work?”

“I’ve postponed it.” Lu Xiao’s voice was calm and steady, leaving only his back for Shen Ci to see.

Shen Ci hurried after him.

It had been a long time since he last went ice skating, so the idea originally filled him with joy.

But the result? The moment he put on his skates and stepped onto the rink, he fell onto his back, marking a spectacular start.

Lu Xiao didn’t even have time to stop him, so he could only help him sit up as he knelt on one knee, not knowing whether to laugh or cry.

Too embarrassing. Shen Ci’s face turned a beet red, but he stood back up stubbornly then tried to skate forward again, only to fall again with a “plop”.

Strange, he never used to fall this much before.

Sitting on the ice, he thought about it, “Is there something wrong with the ice?”

And as he was saying this, he looked up, only to see Lu Xiao who wasn’t too far away gliding effortlessly, performing a perfect arc.

Shen Ci: “….”

He made his way over to him cautiously, holding onto the rail as he did so, and Lu Xiao, noticing his movements, leaned on the rail, advising him gently, “Take your time, there’s no rush.”

And after struggling step by step, and finally getting closer to him, Shen Ci began to smile, “Little Uncle, I—ah!”

His feet suddenly slipped again, and he crashed into Lu Xiao’s chest, and unprepared, they both fell in a heap.

“Hmmm—”

Shen Ci landed on Lu Xiao, who took the brunt of the fall as he landed on the ice, frowning as he let out a muffled grunt.

Shen Ci scrambled off him hurriedly in a panic, however he didn’t dare touch him, sweating nervously as he asked him, “Little, little uncle, are you hurt? Should I call a doctor….”

Lu Xiao, however didn’t speak as lying on the ice, he looked stunned, his eyes as he looked at Shen Ci deep and complex.

Shen Ci swallowed, not moving either.

Then Lu Xiao’s long arm pulled him closer, pressing him down gently and after hesitating for a moment, Shen Ci lay on him obediently.

The corners of Lu Xiao’s lips couldn’t help but rise slightly as he pulled him into his arms for a tight hug, burying his head in Shen Ci’s neck and taking a deep breath—just like he used to do countless times in his youth whenever he hugged the little milk bun.

The restlessness in his heart dissipated a lot, and the buzzing in his ears quieted down gradually.

Lu Xiao admitted, he had lost control a little.

He didn’t dare hug Xiao Ci at night because he was afraid he might scare him, so he could only take advantage of this serendipitous mishap to vent his frustration.

“Don’t move, let me hug…..”

Muffled through the fabric, Lu Xiao’s voice was soft.

Lying on the ice, Shen Ci felt a bit cold, but he stretched out his arms obediently to hug Lu Xiao’s waist, their ears and temples brushing against each other’s inadvertently.

Time seemed to have come to a stand still, the world quiet as if it was only the two of them who were hugging tightly that existed.

All that could be heard were their shallow breaths and the faint, rapid thumping of their hearts.

Thump, thump, thump…

***

After staying at Shen Ci’s grandfather’s estate until the third day of the new year, the group that were burdened with various work responsibilities had to leave.

Even Shen Ci, who didn’t have much to do was taken away because he had to attend various New Year gatherings with the Shen family.

These gatherings were good opportunities for negotiating collaborations, and in the previous years, the Shen family was reluctant to have their youngest deal with such occasions, but this year’s Shen Ci….. had become an idol who was crazily adored by mum fans.

Ladies from various families had specially begged that they bring Shen Ci, and Mother Shen couldn’t just brush them off, so she could only ask her youngest son his opinion.

And Shen Ci, who agreed readily didn’t have any idea how nightmarish the following week would be……

So much so that when Brother Zhang came to pick him up for a notice that had been schedule after the holiday, Shen Ci still looked as if he was in a trance.

“You…” Brother Zhang looked at Shen Ci, who looked as if he had been drained of all energy and the corner of his eye twitched: “You didn’t go behind our backs to engage in certain illegal things right?”

Shen Ci, feeling weak, almost burst into tears in the artist van: “Brother Zhang, a crowd of mum fans are too terrifying…”

“I swear, next year….. no, for the rest of my life, I will never attend a New Year gathering again! Going once nearly cost me half my life.”

“…..”

Listening to his continuous muttering, Brother Zhang who was driving tried so hard not to laugh that he almost had internal injuries.

Cub, why do you have to rush up to let people build their happiness on your pain?

Shen Ci vented a lot of his grievances in the artist van that by the time they got out, even though he was still a bit wilted, he wasn’t that down and out.

“Idol!” A familiar, boisterous voice called out from behind, but Shen Ci didn’t move.

After a while, Yang Ning popped up from behind, draping an arm over Shen Ci’s shoulder as he asked curiously, “Eh, how come you look so wilted after the New Year?”

A thousand words converging into a sigh, Shen Ci thought to himself, if Yang Ning who was keen on pursuing wealthy older women were to replace him, would he think he had reached heaven?

The notice they were rushing to this time was a script reading meeting for the youth campus web drama that they were about to film.

Shen Ci was puzzled. Why did the production team still need to have a script reading meeting so rigorously when they had dared to cast a pure singer-songwriter as the male lead?

He really didn’t understand the world of investors…..

In the office building’s meeting room, a lot of people had already arrived. Shen Ci glanced around and found a somewhat familiar face.

It was a calm and composed young man who was reading the script quietly. Shen Ci thought he looked familiar, but couldn’t remember who he was.

And feeling Shen Ci’s gaze, the man looked up inadvertently and seeing him, immediately showed a warm smile: “Shen Ci? Hello, do you remember who I am?”

His smile triggered a certain string in Shen Ci’s memory.

Then he suddenly remembered. Wasn’t this the Lin Wan who had tried to buy him a drink at the charity party the last time?

And Wei Shuo….. had even told him to be careful of him.
