Chapter 150.2 New era of mechs

Editor: Jodi

After six consecutive experiments, Yan Hao finally achieved metal fusion again.

“Master, I know, I know what caused the metal fusion.” After six experiments, there was only one difference between the sixth experiment and the previous five, “During the sixth experiment, my mental energy was synchronized.”

“Synchronized?” Old Pang froze for a moment, “You mean, you used mental energy to check both parts at the same time.”

“En, I remember. This morning my mental energy was somewhat depleted, and thinking that level six axles weren’t particularly high-end parts, I got lazy and tested the two of them at the same time.” Yan Hao explained.

Yan Hao had strong mental energy, however his experience with mechs wasn’t extensive, hence Old Pang, in order to cultivate good habits in him and to help him thoroughly understand the structure of each mech part, set a rule: whenever he was using mental energy to inspect the internal structure of parts, he had to focus on only one at a time.

But this didn’t just go for Yan Hao, because every mech builder, when dealing with new materials or complex mech parts, would devote their full mental energy. The same applied to Old Pang, and because the phantom spirit stone was a brand new ore, to err on the side of caution, he always tested them separately. Yan Hao had just made the same mistake he had made before; the more he wanted to detect the differences, the more meticulous his inspections became until after the six consecutive check when, under the influence of his mind having become a bit blurred, he got the same feeling he had gotten before.

“Be specific.” If it were just a matter of simultaneous testing of two types of parts, they wouldn’t suddenly undergo this kind of fusion.

“I also synchronized the mental fluctuations inside the two parts.” Yan Hao explained, “I made the two different types of parts. The one made from gold crystal stone was a part I made last semester when my mental energy wasn’t at the S level, so when I was conducting the internal check, when I sensed my mental energy, I subconsciously synchronized the mental fluctuations within. That’s why I guessed that this metal fusion could be a mutation produced by the phantom spirit stone when the mental energy fluctuations of the two metals are aligned.”

“A mutation produced by the phantom spirit stone?”

“We’ll know if we do another experiment.” Standing up, Yan Hao rummaged through the pile of parts, found two parts he had made, then synchronized the mental energies within them just as he had just described, however the two mech parts remained motionless, maintaining their separate forms.

“Two pieces made from gold crystal stone won’t fuse under mental energy synchronization, but if one of them is replaced with a part made from a phantom spirit stone.” Saying this, he swapped one of the parts in his hand for a part made from a phantom spirit stone then executed a mental energy synchronization again, and a few moments later, the two distinctly different metals fused together visibly.

Old Pang’s eyes sparkled with excitement, then casually taking a part made from profound violent stone, gave it to him: “Try this.”

Immediately understanding Old Pang’s intention, Yan Hao took the part made from a profound violent stone and began synchronizing his mental energy again. Soon, that familiar layer of black alloy appeared once more.

“Try again.” Old Pang carried a dozen parts made from different materials over in one go, piling them all up in front of him.

Yan Hao knew that whether these dozen parts could fuse together with the phantom spirit stone in the next few minutes would directly determine the direction of their future research.

From dusk to dawn, the master and disciple worked all night at the workbench, not even pausing to take a sip of water. Yan Hao’s sea of consciousness began to throb with pain after his mental energy had been used continuously without stop for a whole night, however his face was filled with unmistakable suppressed excitement and joy. Because in front of him, were a dozen parts made of various materials, each with faint black coating on them.

Although they had only tested a dozen materials, these materials varied in grade and properties, hence it was almost a certainty that the phantom spirit stone, when synchronized with the fluctuations of mental energies within other ores, would produce a kind of devouring ability. It would devour the ore whose mental energy was synchronized with it and then create a new alloy. And this alloy not only preserved the original properties of the devoured ore, but also enhanced its performance significantly.

This property was extremely similar to that of the blood of phantom beasts which could elevate levels; the blood of phantom beasts enhanced human mental energy, while the phantom spirit stone enhanced mechs.

Yan Hao hated that he couldn’t find a mech immediately to upgrade it in all aspects. He wanted to see to what extent a regular mech’s performance could be enhanced after being upgraded with the phantom spirit stone. However at this moment he was too exhausted to continue, his almost depleted sea of consciousness urging him continuously to rest.

Going back to his dormitory, Yan Hao slept for two days straight before his mental energy recovered, and after waking up and taking a bath, he immediately run back to the lab again.

After another month of toil, Yan Hao and Old Pang each completed a mech arm made of the new alloy. Over this month of trials, they had summarized the conditions for the alloy’s formation.

First, the mental energy inside the parts that were to be fused with the phantom spirit stone had to be the same as the mental energy within the part made from the phantom spirit stone at the time when they were being fused. Simply put, only the creator of the mech parts could achieve the fusion.

Second, only mental energy levels A+ or above could activate the devouring ability of the phantom spirit stone; otherwise, even if the mental energies within them were synchronized, no new alloy would be formed.

Third, the higher the mental energy, the better the performance of the new alloy created.

Old Pang, a level ten mech builder, was unparalleled in mech building while Yan Hao, as his disciple and one who was currently only a level six mech builder, was far from matching Old Pang in terms of skills. Yet the mech arm made from the new alloy made by him, had better performance in all aspects than the one made by Old Pang.

“Mental energy determines the level of performance. In the future, the ranks of mech builders will be further differentiated by the differences in mental energy.” Old Pang sighed then looked at Yan Hao with satisfaction, “In the new era of mechs, my measly A+ level mental energy is no longer considered top-notch.”

“Master…”

Yan Hao wanted to comfort him, but saw him wave his hand gently with a smile as he said, “This is a good thing. Each generation should be stronger than the last. If it’s always Old Zhong and I, we two old guys at the pinnacle of mech building, then what future would there be for the Federation’s mechs?”

“Xiao Hao, you will lead the new era of mechs.”

At this moment, a ray of morning light shone in through the window, and in the glow, the old man patted the shoulder of the young man heavily, his tone filled with trust and expectation, and the young man’s eyes sparkled brilliantly as he nodded solemnly.
